In the salerooms: A leather-clad classic car, 1950s e-bike and Rowan Gillespie sculpture of WB Yeats
'They were inherited by a lady on the east coast of the country,' says Thomas Keighery, auctioneer. 'Her father used to go to vintage rallies, but they haven't been taken out in 10 years.'
Highlights include a 1912 four-door Model T touring car (Lot 1: est €20,000 to €40,000) and an Italian Bianchi (Model S5 1928), encased in leather (Lot 5: est €20,000 to €40,000). Although profoundly unsuited to the Irish climate, excellent storage has protected the leather.

Rowan Gillespie's larger-than-life sculpture of WB Yeats was erected in Sligo in 1990. It depicts the poet holding court at a function with great authority and flourish, offering spontaneous words of wisdom that were probably scripted in advance.
In earlier versions of the sculpture, Yeats carried a book. One of these studies (65.8 cm high) for WB Yeats by Rowan Gillespie (Lot 41: est €14,000 to €21,000) is up for auction at Bonhams sale of Modern British & Irish Art in London on June 18.

'Fingal County Council regrets any inconvenience caused.' MOTOR BRAND RECALL Meanwhile, Irish car owners of a popular motor brand have been warned to "stop driving their vehicle" as a major recall has been issued. Citroen C3 and DS 3 cars have been issued a recall notice. The Road Safety Authority shared the warning on X after Gowan Distributors Limited, which imports Citroen and DS vehicles, issued an urgent stop-drive recall. The recall affects certain Citroen C3, C-Zero and DS 3 models as their Takata airbags could burst with excessive force if they deploy in a crash. 'DO NOT DRIVE' The RSA said: 'Important notice for owners of a Citroen C3 and DS 3. 'Citroen/DS Ireland has asked vehicle owners of certain Citroen C3 and DS 3 models to stop driving their vehicle until the airbags have been replaced by a dealership.' Safety bosses explained that chemicals inside these airbags can deteriorate over time, especially when the cars are exposed to warm and humid conditions. This deterioration could make the inflator explode more violently than intended, leading to pieces of metal striking the driver or passengers. The RSA said this fault can cause serious or even fatal injuries if the airbag goes off during an accident. They said: 'Takata airbags may deteriorate over time, particularly in warm, humid climates'. 'This could cause the airbag to burst with too much force in the event of an accident, which could lead to serious or even fatal injuries in the worst-case scenario.'

‘Turning point' for Glencar as it completes renovation of iconic British film studios
AN Irish-founded construction firm has completed a significant renovation of the oldest film studio still in operation in Britain. Glencar has just handed over the newly redeveloped Ealing Studios in west London. The project, which they won in 2022 and began work on in January 2024, has seen them transform the site, which was founded in 1902 and is the UK's oldest continually operational film studio. Glencar has completed the redevelopment of Ealing Film Studios (Pic: Glencar) Over the years movies made at the site include Bridget Jones, St. Trinians' and The Theory of Everything. Following their extensive development, the studios now have a new 14,000 sq ft piled steel-frame sound stage, two new workshop buildings and over 34,000 sq ft of new production offices. The building also boasts a new art deco-inspired arrival hub and public-facing site reception. The 18-month project, which was undertaken while the studio remained in operation, came to a close this month. 'Throughout the programme, Glencar worked closely with the Ealing Studios operations team to maintain live filming and ensure that existing site tenants remained unaffected,' the Hertfordshire based firm confirmed as they handed over the building. 'This project represents a turning point for Glencar,' said the firm's CEO Eddie McGillycuddy. 'It shows our ability to deliver complex, high-specification schemes in live, urban environments — combining sustainability, technical precision and a deep understanding of operational needs in the creative industries,' he added. Founded in 2016, by McGillycuddy and Chris Gleave, Glencar grew quickly into a multi award-winning business. McGillycuddy's father Pat McGillycuddy, hails from Glencar in Co. Kerry.
