In the salerooms: A leather-clad classic car, 1950s e-bike and Rowan Gillespie sculpture of WB Yeats

The Classic Car and Transport auction at Antiques Ireland on June 16 includes a collection of vintage cars. 'They were inherited by a lady on the east coast of the country,' says Thomas Keighery, auctioneer. 'Her father used to go to vintage rallies, but they haven't been taken out in 10 years.' Highlights include a 1912 four-door Model T touring car (Lot 1: est €20,000 to €40,000) and an Italian Bianchi (Model S5 1928), encased in leather (Lot 5: est €20,000 to €40,000). Although profoundly unsuited to the Irish climate, excellent storage has protected the leather. See Bonhams Rowan Gillespie's larger-than-life sculpture of WB Yeats was erected in Sligo in 1990. It depicts the poet holding court at a function with great authority and flourish, offering spontaneous words of wisdom that were probably scripted in advance. In earlier versions of the sculpture, Yeats carried a book. One of these studies (65.8 cm high) for WB Yeats by Rowan Gillespie (Lot 41: est €14,000 to €21,000) is up for auction at Bonhams sale of Modern British & Irish Art in London on June 18. See Matthews Auction Rooms A forerunner of the e-bike is going under the hammer as part of a sale of Antiques and Collectibles at Matthews Auction Rooms on June 14 and 15. The 1951 motor-powered Motobecane bicycle (Lot 475: est €500 to €800) is said to be in excellent running order. The sale also includes a still life painting by Gladys McCabe (Lot 729: est €700 to €1,200). See
