Jordan, partners conduct new airdrop of aid into Gaza
AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said it conducted on Wednesday a new airdrop of aid into Gaza, in cooperation with international partners. JAF said in a statement that the operation delivered 79 tonnes of food and relief supplies into the besieged Strip, airdropped by military cargo planes from the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), Germany, the UAE, Belgium, France, and Italy. The operation on Wednesday brought the number of airdrops carried out solely by Jordan since the resumption of missions on July 27 to 153, while combined operations with partner nations have now reached 331. In total, the RJAF has delivered nearly 765 tonnes of humanitarian aid and essential supplies to the war-torn Strip, JAF said. Wednesday's mission also included aid provided by Canada, underscoring the growing international response in support of Jordan's efforts to assist the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Jordan, partners airdrop aid into Gaza — JAF
AMMAN – The Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) said on Tuesday that it carried out a new airdrop of humanitarian aid over the besieged Gaza Strip, in cooperation with international partners. JAF said in a statement that military cargo planes from Jordan, Germany, the UAE, Belgium, France, and Italy participated in the operation. The operation delivered 75 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to the people in the war-torn Strip, the statement read. With this operation, the number of airdrop missions carried out solely by the Jordanian Armed Forces has risen to 152. Meanwhile, the total number of airdrops conducted in cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries has reached 325. Since July 27, JAF said it has delivered a total of around 762 tonnes of essential relief materials and food supplies to Gaza via these airlifts. Jordan also runs two military field hospitals in Gaza, one in the Strip's north, which was established in 2009 following the war in 2008. The second was established in Khan Younis in the south in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023. Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the JAF has established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023. Also, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) has launched a daily bakery in southern Gaza, in cooperation with the Jordanian aid campaign, to provide bread to displaced Palestinians amid border closures, acute flour shortages, and soaring food prices. The organisation said the bakery produces between 35,000 and 40,000 loaves of bread daily, benefiting thousands of displaced families as part of Jordan's broader humanitarian assistance to Gaza by land and air. Jordan's humanitarian response also includes the 'Restoring Hope' initiative, launched in September 2024 under Royal directives. The programme aims to provide prosthetic limbs to individuals who have lost limbs as a result of the war. It is a collaborative effort involving the Royal Medical Services and JHCO.

One killed, dozens injured, as quake hits western Turkey
ANKARA — A 6.1-magnitude quake struck Sindirgi in western Turkey on Sunday, the Turkish disaster management agency (AFAD) said, killing at least one person and injuring dozens more. The quake was felt across several cities in the west of the country, including Istanbul and the tourist hotspot of Izmir. "An 81-year-old person died soon after having been rescued from under the rubble," Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told journalists at Sindirgi, the epicentre of the quake. Another 29 people had been injured, but not seriously, he added. The quake collapsed 16 buildings in Sindirgi and its surroundings, of which four were inhabited, including a three-storey building in the city centre, he said. Several people were pulled alive from the rubble of the three-storey building, where six people were living. The person who died had also been buried under the rubble there before being freed. Earlier, Mayor Serkan Sak had told Turkish private channel NTV: "Four were rescued from the rubble." Efforts to extract two others were ongoing, he added. Some 319 first responders were deployed to the affected zone, AFAD said. The quake hit at 7:53 pm (1653 GMT), with some 20 aftershocks ranging from 3.5 to 4.6 magnitude, according to AFAD. Turkey is crisscrossed by several geological fault lines which have previously caused catastrophes in the country. A quake in February 2023 in the southwest killed at least 53,000 people and devastated Antakya, site of the ancient city of Antioch. At the beginning of July, a 5.8-magnitude tremor in the same region resulted in one death and injured 69 people.
