Sun Bus Tech Eyes ASEAN EV Bus Leadership, Expects Strong Malaysia Outlook Through 2030

REGION - SOUTHERN > NEWS By Hasnah Jusid JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Sun Bus Tech Sdn Bhd aims to be among Malaysia's top three bus manufacturers within five to 10 years and a leading player in the ASEAN electric vehicle (EV) bus market. Its chief executive officer Shyan Phang said the outlook for Malaysia's EV bus sector remains strong, driven by government plans to procure another 3,000 units by 2030. bootstrap slideshow 'At present, the EV bus market in Malaysia is fully dependent on government purchases. Last year's tender for 250 units has been concluded, and more orders are expected annually. 'This presents a big opportunity for local manufacturers,' she told Bernama. The Johor-based company has equipped its assembly facility with EV-specific infrastructure, including dual-gun direct-current (DC) fast chargers, portable chargers and special safety containers for battery storage. 'We also use Swiss technology for aluminium bus bodies, which are rust-resistant and can last 15 years to 20 years. The total life-cycle cost is lower than that of steel-bodied buses,' she said. Sun Bus Tech plans to expand its EV bus market to Japan, Indonesia and Thailand, with market visits starting this August. The company also works closely with chassis, battery and charger suppliers to improve efficiency, range and passenger capacity.

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Singapore-based data centre developer and operator, DayOne has announced a landmark 1.2 billion euros investment to develop a hyperscale data centre campus in Lahti, marking one of Finland's most significant digital infrastructure projects to date. (1 Euro = RM4.90) DayOne Data Centers Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Khoo said Finland is an ideal strategic choice for the company's European growth. 'We are proud to invest 1.2 billion euros in the Lahti project into the Finnish economy and collaborate closely with Lahti to drive local innovation and sustainability,' said Khoo. The Lahti data centre project will transform a former industrial site, located in the neighbourhood of Kiveriö, into an advanced, high-performance digital infrastructure facility with the site that, spanning 98,901 square metres, is fully zoned for industrial usage. DayOne in a statement said construction will commence with site demolition in the third quarter this year, and operations are scheduled to be ready for service in 2027. The company's investment will significantly bolster Lahti's digital economy while contributing to job creation in the city and across Finland, with the expectation of supporting a progressive ramp-up of 100 direct skilled positions and employing 1,000 construction workers onsite at its construction peak. With a global presence spanning Asia Pacific and Europe, DayOne will enter into a Growth Partnership Agreement with the City of Lahti, Lahti Region Development LADEC, Lahti Energy, and local educational institutions, including a commitment of 2.5 million euros to LUT Universities as outlined in the agreement. -- BERNAMA
