Peter Andre bags huge new role and plans TV return after Jafaican backlash

Daily Mirror20 hours ago
Mysterious Girl hitmaker Peter Andre has landed a brand new TV drama role as he has started filming already following backlash for his Jafaican film earlier this year
Peter Andre has received a boost after the backlash from his latest film project as he has landed a new TV show. The Mysterious Girl hitmaker is set to appear in his very first drama role.

He has been hit with criticisms over his latest movie, Jafaican, in which he stars as a faux gangster. Peter took centre stage in Fredi Nwaka's latest comedy romp – playing hustler Gary Buckle who tries to be mob boss Denton 'Kill Man' Powell donning a fake dreadlock wig and putting on a Jamaican accent.

The flick has been marred by accusations of cultural appropriation and being labelled "tone-deaf" by some viewers. At the time, Peter brushed off critics and has already moved onto a new project.

He will appear in Channel 5's new programme The Sunshine Murders, which also stars Stephanie Beacham, Camilla Rutherford and Nick Moran. It is due to air in September and the murder mystery sees Peter take on a starring role.
The TV star is set to take on a serious position on the show as he dons a white doctor's coat and clinical rubber gloves to examine victims of gruesome murders. He returned to his parent's homeland of Cyprus to shoot the series, with son Junior heading out to support him.

It comes after Peter defended his stint in Jafaican as he said: "I think it's very easy to criticise something based on a trailer. I would say 'Go and watch the film first,' you will see what the film is about and you will see the context."
He continued to tell the Daily Star: "A critic should also be able to criticise, so I understand how it is." Peter also acknowledged that the film wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

In defence of his work, Peter commented: "In regards to critics, I think it is really important for people to all have different opinions.
"I don't think it is right to just expect everyone to like what you're doing, but I've always said that, you know, in anything I've ever done I've always had people saying: 'Don't do that, you shouldn't do that, that's not the right song to release, that's not a good video clip."
He went on to insist: "If I sat and listened to everybody telling me what not to do, I would never have achieved anything! I think sometimes you have to just go outside of your comfort zone and push yourself."
Peter's eldest children Princess and Junior have been by his side at a recent a red carpet screening for the film. While promoting the movie on Australian TV earlier in the month, Peter said of the criticism: "Well, to be fair, I mean, I think it's good to get all sorts of feedback.
"I mean, this is not... it's my first lead role but I've done quite a few roles before. And all of them, I've played different characters."

Inside Dan Snow's life from ignoring famous dad's advice to wife with royal connections

The TV presenter, historian and former Strictly star is back on Channel 5 with the new series Pompeii: Life in the City with Dan Snow Dan Snow has carved out a career as a much-loved historian and TV presenter - despite going against his famous father's advice to follow in his footsteps. ‌ Now 46, Dan - known for Battlefield Britain, Dan Snow 's Norman Walks and Filthy Cities - is back on our TV screens with a new Channel 5 series, Pompeii: Life in the City with Dan Snow. ‌ He teams up with fellow historian Dr Kate Lister to reveal what it would've really been like to live in Pompeii - the world's best preserved Roman city. ‌ During the opening episode, Dan and Kate take a look at the working lives of Pompeii's people, from the very rich to the very poor. Ahead of the new series, we take a look at Dan's life... Being 'discovered' Born in London in 1978, Dan graduated form Oxford University with first-class honours in Modern History, which seemed inevitable after his childhood. ‌ In a previous interview, he said: "I was a pretty average kid at primary school. My parents lifted me with the support they gave me at home: and whenever we went on holiday or days out we were always doing history-related projects. We made video films about wherever we were: the battlefield at Hastings, Bodiam Castle. We'd draw maps, too: and we'd make diaries. Dad still has them," reports MailOnline. "At the weekends my dad didn't go to watch football; he took me to museums. So when I ended up at Oxford University and got a double first in history, it wasn't brilliance – it was all the enthusiasm he had given me." ‌ A keen rower, he previously recalled how he was discovered by the BBC during the annual Boat Race between Cambridge University Boat Club and Oxford University Boat Club. He told LBC podcast Full Disclosure With James O'Brien: "The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race can be a bit dull so they sort of spruce it up with videos of students going 'oh, I'm so tired and I've got to do my studies and train'. 'I was one of said whining students and someone at BBC Development said 'what about him doing a show on history' because I was talking about history in this show.' ‌ Dan presented his first programme in October 2002 just after graduating from university, co-presenting the BBC's 60th anniversary special on the Battles of El Alamein with his father Peter. Away from documentaries, Dan competed in the 2023 Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing when he admitted to being "absolutely terrified". ‌ Famous dad Dan comes from something of a famous family. As well as being the great-great-grandson of British Prime Minister David Lloyd George, his father is the famous BBC journalist Peter Snow, famed for his General Election 'swingometer' coverage. Peter presented Newsnight from its launch in 1980 until 1997 and hosted a number of documentaries. Dan has said that his father asked him not to follow in his footsteps and become a broadcaster. He told LBC podcast Full Disclosure With James O'Brien: 'My dad urged me not to go into this industry and now I feel the same way about mine.' ‌ A call came into his father trying to get him on board for a history programme with his son. He said that his father 'originally said 'no'' but later changed his mind. Dan said: 'He also took me around Barnes Pond in south-west London and he said 'you're better than this', which I wish was true.' The presenter said his father had 'hoped' he would choose another profession as he admired the people he interviewed. ‌ He also said: 'I'd die now if my kids wanted to become broadcasters. I'm like, 'please go and become bioengineers or something exciting'.' 'Royal' wife In November 2010, Dan married the criminologist and philanthropist Lady Edwina Louise Grosvenor, second daughter of The 6th Duke of Westminster. The couple have three children, the eldest and youngest being daughters. Through her mother, she is descended from the Romanov imperial family of Russia and the Russian writer Alexander Pushkin. Her godmother was Diana, Princess of Wales. Dan previously said of meeting Edwina: "'I'd like to be able to say we met trekking across a desert, but we met at a wedding, which I'm afraid is very predictable. We were sitting next to one another at the reception: the person who did the seating plan set us up. I knew straight away she was the one for me," reports MailOnline.

Princess Andre shows off HUGE designer shopping haul after mum Katie Price was made bankrupt twice

PRINCESS Andre has shown off a huge designer shopping hall after hitting the shops for a new luxury handbag. The 18-year-old was no doubt treating herself after a very successful year so far, which has included landing her own reality show and passing her driving test. 3 3 Princess, the daughter of Peter Andre and Katie Price, took to Instagram to share snaps from her spree, including one showing her car boot full of shopping bags. The haul included items from Louis Vuitton, Charlotte Tilbury, Sephora and Apple. Princess joked: 'My bank account hates me.' She later showed off one of her purchases - a £2,000 Louis Vuitton Keepall. Earlier this year Princess was forced to hit back at trolls who claimed one of her famous parents paid for her £10k car. After showing off her Audi A1, the rising star was hit with the negative comments. She responded: 'These comments are so funny. 'To everyone out there, yes I work and yes I earn my own money which I'm super proud of and so thankful that I'm lucky enough to buy my own car xx.' Princess' former glamour model mum Katie, 46, was declared bankrupt for a second time in 2024 over an unpaid tax bill of more than £750,000. But in March the mum-of-five was discharged from both, later telling The Sun: 'I'm so happy. "I can finally move on and put these bankruptcies behind me and now only focus on the positive. Emotional Peter Andre reveals strict rule for Princess and Junior 'Thank you to everyone that has supported me through this process.' Meanwhile - after experts predicted Princess is on track to become a millionaire by the time she's 20 - the teen teased that she's well on her way. She told Fabulous: "I mean . . . Yeah, I'd say I am." Katie Price's missing millions At the peak of her career Katie had an estimated fortune of £45m, thanks to her lucrative modelling career, book deals, and TV appearances. The cash-strapped mum-of-five was first declared bankrupt in 2019 over unpaid debts of £3.2 million. In a podcast interview earlier this year, she blamed her exes who include Peter Andre, Alex Reid and Kieran Hayler and lawyers for her money woes. She insisted that funding her exes' lavish lifestyles with cars, watches, luxury holidays and homes left her finances in tatters. She added: "I went through a breakdown, this is how mine started - lawyers and exes, that is my bankruptcy thing. "And obviously a bit of HMRC. "When I had my breakdown, if anyone has been depressed… I don't know if you've ever had depression. "It starts with depression and you just want to sleep all day and not talk to anyone, the phone would ring and you wouldn't answer it.' In March, Katie was declared bankrupt for a second time over an unpaid tax bill of £761,994.05. The demand for payment was made by HMRC last October. Katie was due to give evidence about her finances at the High Court but failed to turn up - holidaying in Cyprus with her new man JJ Slater instead. Her Mucky Mansion was a bomb site for years after it was burgled, flooded and swamped by an overflowing septic tank. She finally moved out at the end of May and is renting a four-bed mansion in Sussex.

Liz McClarnon details heartbreaking toll of IVF that left her 'broken' before pregnancy

Singer Liz McClarnon has detailed the heartbreaking IVF journey she and her husband faces as they went through eight rounds of treatment before getting pregnant Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon has revealed the gruelling toll IVF has had on her as she prepares to welcome her first child. The singer, 44, announced she is pregnant in May after eight rounds of treatment. ‌ She had revealed to the Mirror how she began trying for children with her doctor husband Peter Cho through IVF since she was 40 but struggled when three embryo transfers failed. Last year, Liz suffered two heartbreaking miscarriages after their first successful cycles. ‌ After years of trying, Liz shared the happy news she is pregnant and expecting a baby boy. However, Liz has now opened up on the challenging journey to get pregnant and the hormonal imbalances along the way. ‌ A cycle of IVF takes around three to six weeks to complete with hormone medications playing a vital role. They stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs and prepare the uterus for implantation. Liz has looked back at her treatments over the past few years with Peter by her side and shared a candid look at the side effects. She explained: "After 8 IVF cycles within 3 years, as you can imagine, I've been on hormones more often than not. ‌ "I just wanted to share how it can look. Sometimes normal and sometimes very not." In her social media video, Liz looked drained as she captioned it: "Sometimes you could tell." Her video then cut to her looking energic and posing for the camera as she added: "Sometimes you couldn't." Peter could be seen helping her with her injections as she said: "Life carried on as normal." As the cycle progressed, Liz needed more injections as she shared: "I started to gain weight... of course that didn't matter." However, she shared how she felt "a little bit broken" as the cycle went on. ‌ The video ended with Peter injecting Liz with her final injection as they headed to their last trip to the clinic with the singer having a "look of hope." Liz was praised by her followers for the very candid post as Ian H Watkins commented: "Huge love xxx." A fan added: "Incredible, you are going to be the absolute best mama xx." ‌ Someone else commented: "Love you even more than I did xx. you are amazing and you are going to be the best mum ever x." A fourth wrote: "You are an absolute hero. Such an incredibly hard thing to go through." Last month, Liz appeared on Loose Women where she revealed she is expecting a boy despite thinking they were having a girl. "Lots of names going around in my head and we're getting excited," she revealed. However, Liz added that she's "still very scared" but added that the "fear dissipates slowly". Opening up about her pregnancy journey, Liz revealed that it was "awful" for her and her husband. ‌ "The first time we got about 10 eggs and a couple were fertilised. Then we went on holiday because it's so stressful - we went away to France for a few days," she shared. It was during this break that the couple were told that no eggs had reached the stage where the transfer could happen. "It was just the biggest shock of my life. I didn't expect them to say that," she said. Liz revealed that when she took a pregnancy test for the last time, she uncontrollably started crying. "I turned around and there was a faint line. Everything was amazing. I'm still super scared now but it was a good thing," she said.
