Peruvian embassy in Kuwait marks 204th Independence Day
KUWAIT: The Embassy of the Republic of Peru in Kuwait marked the 204th anniversary of Peru's independence on Sunday, highlighting the country's long-standing commitment to peace, freedom and mutual respect.
Peruvian Ambassador Carlos Enrique Tomas Martin Jiménez reflected on the broader significance of independence as a cornerstone of Peru's national identity. He emphasized the country's dedication to international friendship and its welcoming spirit toward those who come in peace.
The ambassador highlighted that freedom remains central to Peru's national character, stating it is 'not just a political concept, but a powerful promise — that every voice matters, every choice counts, and every individual holds the power to shape their own destiny. Only through freedom can we achieve equality, civil rights, and the full expression of our humanity,' he said.
He also underscored Peru's appreciation for diversity and belief in dialogue and mutual respect as essential tools for resolving differences and building consensus.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan delivered a keynote address, reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship between Kuwait and Peru, which dates back to 1975. He noted that the two nations recently celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations, a milestone reflecting decades of cooperation.
Al-Mashaan shared that Kuwait and Peru have already signed three bilateral agreements and are in the process of negotiating 13 more. He also pointed to the growing economic relationship, with Kuwaiti investments in Peru reaching around half a billion dollars and expressed aspirations to see this figure increase.
