Three injured in Hilltop crash after vehicle reportedly runs red light well over speed limit
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Three people were injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash after one driver ran a red light approximately twice the speed limit in an area on the west side of the city.
According to the Franklin Township Police Department, a person driving a Hyundai Sante Fe was traveling southbound on Demorest Road and had the green light at the Briggs Road intersection. While moving through the intersection a Kia Soul was traveling west on Briggs Road at a high rate of speed, approximately 70 MPH in a 35 MPH zone, and struck the Hyundai.

Police said the crash, which occurred at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, caused one of the vehicles to flip over and the driver and passenger of the Kia Soul were taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a different hospital and listed in stable condition.
An officer at the scene said the driver of the Kia Soul did not have a driver's license and that both occupants were being investigated for a separate incident in Columbus.
The intersection of Demorest Rd. and Briggs Rd. are closed while the investigation continues.

MNPD looking into phone data to try to solve 2017 cold case
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — In 2017, a woman was found shot and killed inside a vehicle outside an apartment building in South Nashville. To date, no one has been arrested in connection with the crime. MAY 2017 | Woman found shot to death in South Nashville On the morning of May 26, 2017, the MNPD received a call about a dead woman inside a white Kia Soul at an apartment complex in at 455 Swiss Avenue. 'She was seated in the driver's seat and appeared to be shot and was pronounced deceased at the scene,' Christopher Stevick, a Cold Case Unit detective with the MNPD, told News 2. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Vian Ahmed Kasim. For years, no one could be linked to the crime. 'Shooting investigations in general when there's not an immediate motive can be tough,' Stevick said. Kasim's sister told News 2 that Kasim was an entrepreneur and had a phone business, adding that Kasim's passion was singing. She and her family came to the U.S. from Kurdistan in 1993 and she lived in Nashville for six years before her death. 'She seemed to be really active and trying to establish herself and had established herself in Nashville and was pretty driven to be a small business owner,' Stevick said. Stevick said that Kasim was not a resident of the apartment complex near where her body was found, but had a friend who lived there. Stevick told News 2 that no surveillance video was submitted in the case, making it more difficult to solve. However, there have been some investigative leads. 'Some of these leads are leads towards potentially new information. Some of these are leads that point to specific people,' Stevick said. 'There are several of them and that's one of the challenges with these cases.' There is a deep investigation needed for several potential leads, Stevick said. On top of that, three cell phones that belonged to Kasim were found in the vehicle. ⏩ With new technology, the MNPD is now the process of taking another look through phone data. 'Now, we have new technology. It's best practice [that] as new technology emerges and advances, we always want to take another look,' Stevick said. Man accused of shooting Marysville police officer indicted on nine charges
MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) — The man accused of shooting at a Marysville police officer before he drove away has been indicted on nine charges, including attempted aggravated murder. A Union County grand jury returned the indictment Friday against Dustin M. Ohm, 29, of Marysville. On May 30, police responded to a domestic dispute call on White Oak Court. According to details from police and Union County Prosecutor David Phillips, a sergeant tried to get Ohm, who was impaired, to exit his pickup truck. He refused and revved his engine. As the sergeant moved to deploy her taser, Ohm fired at nearly point-blank range. The sergeant was struck by shattered glass and two shots were found embedded in a house. Ohm then reportedly fired at three other officers, coming under return fire, and drove away. He crashed into multiple cars, including a police cruiser, exiting the neighborhood. The chase was joined by sheriff's deputies and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, ending on U.S. 33 in the median strip near Northwest Parkway. Ohm got out of the car armed and was shot several times by law enforcement. Phillips said that Ohm was also struck by a self-inflicted gunshot. The charges that Ohm faces are: Attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer Three counts of felonious assault on a peace officer Having weapons while under disability Two counts of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer Discharging a firearm at or into a habitation Vandalism The sergeant struck by Ohm was treated at a hospital, and Ohm remains in a hospital under guard, Phillips said. The shooting of the Marysville officer was one of several times that central Ohio law enforcement officers have come under fire in recent weeks. A Morrow County deputy was fatally shot on Memorial Day, and two Mifflin Township officers were shot by a man on probation, sparking a manhunt after he ran away. Ohm is due in court on June 25. Caught on camera, a suspect with sticky fingers is accused of stealing $2,200 worth of makeup from Ulta Beauty on Som Center Road on May 15. She appeared to be wearing a disguise, attempting to blend in with other shoppers. But a police report filed on May 23 told a different story. Remains found in search for missing teen last seen at airport The store's general manager said the woman managed to steal more than $2,200 worth of cosmetic products. The manager told police she discovered the theft while sorting paperwork and realized her employees had not reported the incident. The suspect was identified in the report as Paula Andrea Lopez-Correa, a Virginia woman wanted in multiple states. She is accused of stealing from Ulta Beauty locations across multiple states, racking up a total of more than $81,000 in losses, according to the police report. According to the store's loss prevention team, Lopez-Correa has used a black Kia Soul in some of the thefts. The car has a Virginia license plate number TFK5214. Nationwide recall on jerky and snack sticks Police said they searched city cameras for that plate number but found no matches. As of now, Lopez-Correa remains at large.
