Burger boat floating food truck sinks before Turkey Point festival

The owners of a new floating food truck are staying positive after their burger boat flipped at Turkey Point boat launch last weekend.
Big Rig Burger Boat was heading out for the Norfolk County Pottahawk Sunday — just the second weekend of service for the new eatery — when the business sank.
It could have been a lucrative day on Lake Erie for the burgeoning burger business.
The annual flotilla
involves many boaters who imbibe while enjoying a day of sunshine, swimming and boat hopping near the sand bar southeast of Turkey Point.
The mobile kitchen on pontoons did not make it to the party.
Video posted to Big Rig Burger's Instagram account shows the semitruck-themed floating eatery flipping onto its side as it is lowered down the boat launch.

After recovery, the business owners discovered that one of the boat's three pontoons had a 'hidden hole' that had filled up with water.
'It had zero buoyancy, causing the entire rig to roll and tip violently to one side,' they wrote on social media.
Big Rig Burger Boat's maiden voyage was just a week earlier on Bellwood Lake in Wellington County.
Owner Joshua Tuck launched the 'one-of-a-kind' big rig boat from Highland Pines Campground July 5. The floating tiki bar-like eatery served up a variety of smash burgers, chips and dip, as well as ice cream to customers dockside and on open water at the Grand River conservation area reservoir above Shand dam.
It was the eye-catching nature of the floating eatery and the reaction he'd get from customers that piqued Tuck's interest in launching the business,
he told Metroland reporter Isabel Buckmaster
.
'I always thought it would be cool to have a food truck on the water, and it just kept going from there.'
Even now, with a water damaged new business, Tuck isn't giving up.
A
GoFundMe
fundraiser was set up for 'the return of Big Rig Burger Boat 2.0.'
'The Wright brothers failed countless times before they took flight,' he wrote on Instagram.
'We'll learn. We'll rebuild. And we'll come back stronger.

Emplifi's UGC Solution Drives 5.29x Increase in Conversions for Brands and 4.3x Jump in Average Order Values

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Emplifi, a leading social media marketing platform, today released analysis of UGC and social media performance trends for the tens of thousands of brands leveraging Emplifi UGC and social media management tools for US brands during the first half of 2025. According to the findings, brands that implemented Emplifi's UGC solution drove a 5.29x increase in conversions compared to non-UGC posts during Q2 2025, up from the 3.73x increase in Q1. Emplifi's UGC solution also helped brands increase website visits quarter-over-quarter—up from a 1.05x increase in Q1 to a 2.35x increase in Q2. Average order values were also up, gaining a 4.3x increase in Q2 compared to 3.78x increase in Q1. 'The fact that the brands using our UGC solution saw more website visits, increased conversions, and higher average order values clearly indicates that UGC not only moves the needle but fuels growth," said Emplifi CMO Susan Ganeshan. In addition to UGC trends, Emplifi analyzed brand performance on Instagram and Facebook, revealing that Instagram remains the top social media app for branded organic content, delivering a greater audience size and more engagement compared to Facebook. Emplifi also analyzed paid media performance on Facebook and Instagram, finding minimum shifts during the first two quarters of 2025. Click-through-rates (CTR) for Facebook Reels ads were up from 0.56% in Q1 to 0.63% in Q2. The overall CTR for Facebook feed ads remained at 1.3% for both quarters. Facebook ad spend continued to outpace Instagram in Q2 by 22.78 percentage points. According to Meta's most recent earnings report, advertising revenue for the company reached $46.56 billion during the second quarter of 2025, with total revenue up 22% year-over-year. While Facebook and Instagram ads continue to deliver for advertisers, ecommerce brands have generated exceptionally high engagement on both platforms. When looking at business sectors, Emplifi's data shows that ecommerce brands made up 23.7% of all interactions on Instagram in Q2 and 27.6% of interactions on Facebook during the same time period. There were some dips in performance for brands, specifically with organic content. Engagement on organic Instagram content declined slightly for brands during Q2: Instagram Carousel posts earned 40 median interactions, down from 46 during the first quarter of the year. Brands' Instagram reels experienced a similar decline, with median interactions down from 38 in Q1 to 35 in Q2. Facebook Live video engagement also decreased, dropping from 21 median interactions in Q1 to 17 median interactions in Q2. 'Our insights reinforce what we have always known: UGC is imperative to a brand's social media strategy and more valuable than ever. Consumers have told us time and again that they want authentic content—there's simply no better way to connect with your audience than giving them content that not only resonates, but deepens the brand-customer relationship,' said Susan Ganeshan, CMO, Emplifi. 'The fact that the brands using our UGC solution saw more website visits, increased conversions, and higher average order values clearly indicates that UGC not only moves the needle but fuels growth.' For social media marketers looking to refine their strategies before Q4, Emplifi recommends brands lean further into UGC and keep their content fresh across all platforms and formats. The company is also bullish on video with Facebook Reels continuing to deliver improved engagement on both organic and paid posts. 3 strategies that help this job seeker stand out and land interviews: 'You never know how people are reviewing applications'

Kaleah Mcilwain has been on the job market for eight months, and in that time, she's learned a few hard truths about the application process. Chief among them? Submit a cover letter every time. Her best trick to write an effective cover letter quickly is to focus on one prompt: Directly solve a problem in the job description. The company is "hiring for a reason," says Mcilwain, 28, a digital editor in Philadelphia, "and they just want the best person who can solve that reason for them." Identify one or two pain points in the job description and use your cover letter to tell the hiring manager exactly why you're the best person to solve that for them, she says. Provide examples of your skills or prior experience that show how you can solve the problem, and also include why you want to do it for that company. In Mcilwain's line of work, for example, she may be looking at a job where a business wants to improve their social media strategy. Mcilwain can then give examples of how she's run Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and other platform handles for a previous employer, giving specific growth and engagement metrics from her key is to stay focused on how you can solve their business need, Mcilwain says. "While people love telling their full career history [in a cover letter], don't talk about anything else besides the one thing that they mentioned they need someone to do," she says. Mcilwain says putting effort into the cover letter is worthwhile when many others rely on AI to write theirs, don't spend much time and attention on it, or skip it altogether. Some 2 in 3 job-seekers say they don't consistently submit a cover letter when applying, according to a 2024 Jobscan survey. She's a fan of AI tools but says it's better to use them when reviewing your content, rather than by generating it. "I write all my own things, and then I will just tell AI, can you analyze this against a job description to tell me the likelihood that it matches up with it that way?" Mcilwain says. The analysis allows her to check that she's hit all the job description's bullet points and used keywords in meaningful ways. She cautions against using AI to generate the substance of your resume or cover letter, otherwise it may look too similar to other AI-generated applications. A generative AI tool "isn't going magically write like you will," Mcilwain says. She used the tool to generate a few items and noticed "they all look exactly the same: They follow the same exact type of opening followed by a chronological order of what you've done in your job history, followed by a closing." Hiring experts agree that it's not a great practice to have AI generate a resume or cover letter, since it can lead to errors and over-used (read: boring) phrases and statements. Mcilwain say she's being intentional in her job search, so far applying to roughly three or four dozen openings. It's her third time on the job market since graduating from college, and the most competitive against other job-seekers. One new strategy that's led to results: "I'm very big on cold-emailing the CEO of the company, which has worked for me multiple times to get an interview," Mcilwain says. She keeps things brief with an introduction, a statement that she applied to the opening, and three bullet points about why she's qualified for it. Then she'll finish with a polite request that her application gets to the right person. After sending off her email, she'll also request to connect on LinkedIn, but says that sending another message on the platform is "overkill." "I'm never asking these people to look at my resume or anything like that, just simply [that] I applied" with the hopes the message will be passed on to the hiring manager, she says. "I did this, and literally, I got an interview like the next day." So far, the method has secured her at least three job interviews. The point is to put in the effort to make contact with the hiring manager directly, which boosts your chances of a human response. "You never know how people are reviewing their applications. It may be a human, it may be a computer system, it may be AI," Mcilwain says. "So instead of trying to make sure your application can get around all of those things, I just go [straight] to people."
