Bundesliga Announces Multi-Layered Broadcast Strategy In The United Kingdom And Ireland

Forbes11 hours ago
The governing body of the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL), through its international subsidiary Bundesliga International, has confirmed deals with multiple broadcasters throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland on Wednesday.
In what the league calls a multi-layered strategy, the Bundesliga can now be viewed across various traditional platforms, but also streaming services and popular YouTube content creators.
'We are delighted to announce our new-look line-up of great media partners as part of our multi-platform strategy in the UK and Ireland,' CEO of Bundesliga International Peer Naubert said in a press release. 'Our approach is as diverse as our supporters: by combining established broadcasters with digital platforms and content creators, we are taking a progressive step in how top-level football can be experienced.'
What does this mean in detail? The Bundesliga's existing partner, Sky Sports, will continue to exclusively screen the Saturday Topspiel or top match. Sky will also feature a comprehensive highlights package and other shoulder programming throughout the week, ensuring Bundesliga fans have access to world-class coverage and expert analysis.
The Sunday games will now be available on Prime Video, the Bundesliga's new partner. The Amazon company will make matches available on a single pay-per-view basis in the UK, with no long-term commitments required. Amazon will also show the promotion/relegation play-offs and the Franz-Beckenbauer-Supercup as of 2026.
How much will the Amazon Prime games cost? One indication could be past partnerships. Prime charged UK fans £2.49 ($3.35) per game for UEFA international games earlier this year.
The deal with Prime isn't the first for the Bundesliga. The DFL also has a long-standing international partnership with AWS, which provides fans with live data on all games.
On top of that, Bundesliga International has also struck a multi-year deal with BBC Sport. The BBC will stream all Friday night games, starting with the Bundesliga opener this weekend between Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig via its on-demand platform BBC iPlayer.
"This multi-layered strategy allows us to connect with more audiences across the UK and Ireland, giving every supporter the chance to engage with Football As It's Meant To Be in the way that suits them best,' Naubert said in a statement. Indeed, getting the Bundesliga in front of as many eyeballs as possible was one of the major goals of the UK and Ireland television deals ahead of the 2025/26 season.
To maximize that effort, Harry Kane and Bayern will be screened free-to-air across multiple platforms in the UK and Ireland this Friday. In what the Bundesliga calls an innovative audience-building strategy, the league aims to make all Friday matches widely available.
In an attempt to maximize eyeballs, the Bundesliga has also signed partnerships with several YouTube football channels, which will live-stream matches on their platforms in a watch-along format.
The partnership includes The Overlap, featuring some of England's biggest football names such as Gary Neville, Roy Keane, and Ian Wright. The Overlap will show 20 Bundesliga games in 2025/2,6 including this Friday's season opener.
The other deal raised some eyebrows within the industry as it includes YouTuber and Manchester United fan Mark Goldbridge's That's Football channel. Although immensely popular, Goldbridge has made some derogatory comments towards the Bundesliga in the past after RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano opted to join Bayern Munich over Manchester United.
Either way, this will be the first time ever that a top league will grant live rights for an extensive package of matches to content creators in Europe. That part certainly makes sense. YouTube has, without a doubt, become the most popular social media platform for content creators and will guarantee the league a significant number of eyeballs.
On top of working with content creators, the league itself, in fact, will try to maximize YouTube. The Bundesliga's own YouTube channel will broadcast all Friday evening matches of both the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga (second division).
Overall, it feels like the dawn of a new era. The Bundesliga has become increasingly popular among English players in recent years. Jude Bellingham launched his career with Borussia Dortmund; Harry Kane won his first-ever club title last season when he secured the Meisterschale with Bayern Munich. Finally, Bellingham's little brother, Jobe Bellingham, joined Borussia Dortmund this summer.
All that was missing was a way for English fans to watch. Going ahead, there are now certainly enough options for British fans of the German game to pick from.

College football betting, odds, lines: My best bets for Week 0

Week 0 may not carry the pageantry of a full Saturday slate, but it delivers something just as important: early value. From Ireland to Honolulu, the first handful of college football games gives us a glimpse at new faces, new systems, and — most importantly — lines that could shift fast. Kansas State's Heisman hopeful, QB Avery Johnson, headlines across the Atlantic, Kansas tests its ceiling in the Big 12 race, Stanford is suddenly an underdog at Hawaii and two fresh offensive systems collide in Bowling Green. College football is finally back. Here is my breakdown of a few big Week 0 games and my favorite bets for the opening week: Kansas State (-3, 49.5) vs. Iowa State in Dublin Prediction: Kansas State 24, Iowa State 21 The season kicks off in Dublin, where Kansas State and Iowa State renew a rivalry that hasn't lacked drama. The Wildcats arrive with Johnson, the Heisman hopeful and my preseason pick to make a run at the trophy. Iowa State counters with momentum of its own, coming off an 11-3 season capped by a bowl win over Miami. Last year, the Cyclones disrupted Johnson with pressure, holding him to a 43% completion rate. Still, Kansas State managed three passing scores and nearly four yards per carry on the ground. The difference this time? The Wildcats upgraded their offensive line — a unit that should tilt this rematch. A year ago this matchup closed with Iowa State -2.5 at home. With the game shifted to a neutral site and K-State boasting improvements up front, the Wildcats are better positioned to edge it out. Best bet: Avery Johnson over 47.5 rushing yards (-114) Fresno State at Kansas (-12.5, 50.5) Prediction: Kansas 31, Fresno State 19 Kansas enters 2025 with the roster to push into Big 12 contention. The key, as always, is quarterback Jalon Daniels' health. With Daniels active, the Jayhawks can stretch defenses at every level; with him sidelined, the gap to backup Cole Ballard is glaring. The good news: Daniels is healthy. Fresno State starts over with transfer QB EJ Warner, a quick-release passer who inherits a patchwork offense filled with JUCO additions. Against a Kansas defense that creates consistent pressure, Warner's debut could be a rough introduction. If Daniels stays upright, the Jayhawks should have little trouble handling a rebuilding Bulldogs roster. Best bet: Pass Stanford at Hawaii (-2.5, 50.5) Prediction: Stanford 27, Hawaii 24 Few lines have swung harder than this one. Stanford opened as a 4-point favorite, but the line has flipped and the Cardinal are now 2.5-point underdogs in Honolulu. The fade is easy to understand: Stanford projects as the ACC's bottom feeder, while Hawaii has flashed progress under Timmy Chang. [Check out all of Yahoo's sports betting content here in our new betting hub] QB Micah Alejado showed late-season promise, pairing accuracy with mobility to breathe life into Hawaii's scheme. But for all the excitement, Stanford still has enough size in the trenches to compete. The passing may not be there for Stanford, but its ability to run the football should keep it in it. If the number keeps climbing toward the Rainbow Warriors, the value may swing back toward the Cardinal. Best bet: Micah Ford over 41.5 rushing yards -(114) Sam Houston at Western Kentucky (-10.5, 61.5) Prediction: Western Kentucky 33, Sam Houston 26 At first glance, this game looks like filler — but the coaching turnover makes it fascinating. Western Kentucky tapped former Abilene Christian coach Keith Patterson, who brought along record-setting QB Maverick McIvor (8,000-plus career passing yards). McIvor inherits an offense that's been retooled through the transfer portal. Sam Houston counters with Phil Longo, the veteran coordinator whose Air Raid has lit up plenty of FBS scoreboards. But history says brand-new systems rarely click in Week 0, and inefficiency could stall drives early. Oddsmakers have set the total at 61.5, but my numbers project a slower start before the fireworks arrive. Best bet: Sam Houston vs Western Kentucky under 61.5 (-110) Week 0 projections Game My projection BetMGM odds Kansas State vs. Iowa State -3.7 / 46.5 -3 / 49.5 Fresno State at Kansas -12.6 / 50.6 -13 / 50.5 Sam Houston at Western Kentucky -6.7 / 58.5 -10 / 61.5 Stanford at Hawaii -2.9 / 52 -2.5 / 49.5

BlackRock research arm bigs up hedge funds to investors

LONDON (Reuters) -The BlackRock Investment Institute believes investors should bulk up their exposure to hedge funds, the company said on Thursday. The research arm of the asset manager suggests investors dedicate up to 5% of their portfolios to hedge fund investments, the highest the institute has ever recommended. Investors might take money from holdings in developed market government bonds and instead use this money for less risky hedge funds, it said in a note. Allocators comfortable with a bit more risk could take money from the stocks portions of their portfolios and instead redirect that money at higher risk hedge funds. The asset manager side of BlackRock, which also acts as a middleman for investors wanting to spend money on hedge funds, oversees $76 billion in hedge fund assets including direct hedge fund investments and hedge fund-related businesses, the company website says. U.S. President Trump in August signed a White House order directing regulators to expand access to alternative investments to 401k retirement portfolios, like hedge funds, adding a new layer of risk open to ordinary investors. BlackRock, which lobbied the Trump administration to expand asset options, plans to launch its own retirement fund that includes private equity and private credit assets next year. The broader hedge fund universe returned 1.1% in July and returns are up 5.2% so far in the year to July 31, figures from PivotalPath showed. Hedge funds are up roughly 8% over the past five years on an annualized basis. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq stock indexes have both risen roughly 9-10% this year. JPMorgan's global government bond fund was up around 2% as of July 31, it says on the bank's website.
