Belvedere Square adds three new tenants, including a pretzel shop

Yahoo24-04-2025

A new cohort of businesses are settling in at Belvedere Square, filling up the market's last vacant spots, as food halls around the city gear up for the Summer.
The three tenants opening in the market include a pretzel shop, Moroccan eatery and juicery, and a shop doubling as an LGBTQ+ boutique. These businesses are joining Belvedere Square fixtures like Atwater's and Neopol Savory Smokery.
'We think we have all the bases covered in the food category,' said Henry Deford, senior vice president and principal of Mackenzie Retail LLC, which has leased Belvedere Square in North Baltimore for 13 years.
Deford said that the new businesses are opening at an opportune time, heading into the market's busiest months, and will be filling out its last available spaces.
While other area food halls are struggling to maintain their tenants and foot traffic, Deford said Belvedere Square is lucky to be situated in a great location, between affluent communities like Roland Park in North Baltimore and Rodgers Forge in Baltimore County.
He also noted the importance of the market's status in the community, having served as a fixture in the area since its opening in 1986.
B'More Twist is the only one of Belvedere Square's new businesses currently open, offering the smell of freshly-baked pretzels to patrons of the hall.
When owner and operator Lucia Shibeshi moved to the U.S. from Ethiopia in the early 2000s, one of her first jobs in the states was at a pretzel shop in Belvedere Square. She said the experience made her want to open one of her own in the food hall, a path she set upon after establishing her first location of B'More Twist at Lexington Market in February.
Before opening the pretzel shops, Shibeshi built a successful event catering business, Taste Events Catering, working with big-name musical artists like Billy Joel and Beyoncé.
Love is Love Boutique opened its doors at Belvedere Square in March, but has closed briefly, with plans to reopen April 29, according to a sign on its window. The boutique specializes in LGBTQ+ apparel, as well as pet-themed greeting cards.
Meanwhile, Kesh & Fresh, an eatery serving plant-based Moroccan-style fare and fresh juices, is poised to launch its location in the hall by the end of June, after appearing in several farmers markets in Maryland and D.C over the past few years.
Belvedere Square isn't the only food hall in Baltimore to announce new additions this year, as Broadway Market is poised to add three new businesses to its roster in the coming months, and The Mill on North food hall opened its doors in West Baltimore this week.

a16z-backed Infinite Machine shows off cheaper, modular electric scooter

New York-based micromobility startup Infinite Machine has revealed a seated scooter called Olto that will cost $3,495 when it starts shipping later this year. The Olto will feature 40 miles of range, pulled from an easily swappable 48V lithium-ion battery. Infinite Machine says the Olto will have a top speed of 20 miles per hour in bike lines and '33mph off-road,' powered by a 750W rear hub motor. There is a headlight with high and low beams, as well as turn signals, to help with visibility on the road. Infinite Machine is also promising the Olto is modular, with the ability to attach or detach elements you might find on a larger cargo bike, like a child carrier, rear rack, or basket. There are even fold-out pedals that can provide pedal-assist propulsion via a chain connected to the rear wheel, which lets the rider use the Olto sort of like an e-bike. And Infinite Machine says the Olto can seat two people, supported by the vehicle's dual-suspension frame. It's a hefty price tag, but it's less than half of what Infinite Machine is charging for its flagship Cybertruck-style two-wheeler, the P1. That vehicle, which the startup has begun shipping to its first customers, costs $10,000. The Olto is the newest entry into the always-churning market for electric two-wheelers. That churn has been difficult to navigate, especially in the United States. One of the leading American e-bike brands, Rad Power Bikes, has gone through multiple rounds of layoffs and recently changed its leadership. International brands have struggled to find a foothold in the U.S., too, contributing to the bankruptcy restructurings of VanMoof and Cake. Infinite Machine began turning heads with the design of the P1 scooter in 2023. It ultimately secured $9 million in late 2024 in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz. Founder and CEO Joseph Cohen told TechCrunch at the time that his goal for Infinite Machine was to ultimately have vehicles in every major city around the world. In the near-term, though, Infinite Machine is focused on the U.S. market — which is a challenging place to sell vehicles like the Olto. 'We think that what we can bring as an American company is an amazing product sensibility that doesn't exist with the products in the market, and that's the angle that we're taking,' Cohen told TechCrunch last year. 'We are coming into this category and saying, you know, these plastic things that look like printers, we can do it better. We can make something that feels like your favorite car — but not a car, but something that extends to the city.' Southern California Pastrami Favorite Finally Expands to Las Vegas

Southern California's beloved pastrami destination, the Hat, is finally moving forward with plans to open in Las Vegas — six years after the chain announced it would expand to Southern Nevada. Construction is now underway on a 4,122-square-foot restaurant at 6239 South Rainbow Boulevard — the same space it staked out in 2019 — with a drive-thru and outdoor patio. The Hat has been a California staple since 1951, serving pastrami dips poised for dunking into homemade au jus, plus burgers, turkey sandwiches, and onion rings. The Hat teased the opening on Instagram, announcing a grand opening in spring 2026. The Hat joins a growing parade of regional fast food favorites expanding into Las Vegas. Most recently, Georgia's favorite fast-food chicken chain, Zaxby's, opened a drive-thru here. Earlier this year, North Carolina-based Bojangles opened in the Southwest, and Hawaii-based Zippy's opened its second location in the Vegas area. And that's not to mention the grocery stores Aldi and H-Mart, which debuted in April. Still rumored to make a Las Vegas appearance: Portillo's potentially. Late-Night Skewers Land in Chinatown The team behind Chubby Cattle's conveyor-belt hot pot restaurant and the high-tech X-Pot on the Strip is back with a new late-night venture. Chubby Skewers opens Wednesday, June 18, on Spring Mountain Road, serving Northeastern Chinese Dongbei-style barbecue from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. Skewers start at just $1, with a menu that ranges from wagyu beef to duck tongue to spicy cold noodles. The space channels the energy of old-school Chinese street stalls — think bold reds, neon lights, and low tables. New York Noodle Hybrid Extends Its Short-Term Pop-Up Pastaramen, the boundary-blurring Japanese-Italian pop-up from chef Robbie Felice, is extending its run at Bar Zazu in Resorts World Las Vegas through July 12. Originally slated for just a one-month residency, the crossover has drawn crowds with dishes like cacio e pepe gyoza, mochi ramen carbonara, and a $250 truffle porcini ramen that is dramatically prepared in a flaming wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano. Brewdog Opens a Beer Hall Beneath Its Rooftop Behemoth UnderDog Beer Hall opens on Thursday, June 12, beneath BrewDog's massive 30,000-square-foot rooftop brewpub on the Las Vegas Strip. Tucked inside the Showcase Mall, UnderDog brings a more casual vibe with giant screens, a new pizza-focused menu, and beers on tap — including BrewDog favorites like Elvis Juice and guest pours from local Las Vegas breweries. Baguette Cafe Heads Downtown Baguette Café opened a new downtown Las Vegas location on May 22 right on Las Vegas Boulevard, near Fremont Street. It brings together signature French-inflected breakfast, brunch, and lunch fare just a block from Fremont Street. Known for thoughtful sourcing and warm hospitality, this marks the café's third outpost in the valley — and its first in the heart of Downtown. Chef Leticia Mitchell Opens Another Cocina Leticia's Cocina and Cantina is opening a new location at Boulder Station this summer. Known for dishes like birria quesatacos, shrimp ceviche, and Mexico City-style enchiladas suizas, chef Leticia Mitchell first gained national attention with an appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives . This will be her second location with Station Casinos, following the original inside Santa Fe Station. She also runs Letty's, a fast-casual spin-off downtown, and sister restaurant Carmelita's Mar y Tierra in East Las Vegas. Leticia's will replace the now-closed Guadalajara restaurant. See More:
