Islamic military coalition hosts training in Mali to counter terrorist financing
Conducted in cooperation with Mali's Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs, the program aimed to strengthen national capacities to counter terrorist financing and money laundering.
The initiative is part of a broader series of strategic activities by the coalition to support its member states, the SPA added.
The launch event was attended by Lt. Gen. Sadio Camara, Mali's minister of defense and veterans affairs; Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghed, secretary-general of the coalition; senior diplomatic and military officials; and representatives from national and international organizations.
The program featured a scientific lecture, 'Financial Investigations into Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering Crimes,' attended by more than 200 participants, including security, oversight, and judicial personnel.
The session covered methodologies for financial tracking, analysis of illicit networks, and shared relevant international experiences.
Additionally, a closed workshop, 'Methods of Countering the Financing of Terrorist Organizations in the Sahel Region,' brought together specialists from key national and regional entities.
Discussions focused on shared challenges, successful models, ongoing initiatives, and mechanisms for enhanced cooperation.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of sustained collaboration between the coalition and its member states.
Participants emphasized the need to expand training and capacity-building efforts to enhance institutional readiness and strengthen collective responses to security threats across the Sahel region.

JEDDAH: The secretary-general of the Muslim World League and chairman of the association of Muslim scholars on Sunday visited the headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition in Riyadh. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa delivered a lecture, titled 'A Reading into the Transformations of Contemporary Intellectual Ideology.' He highlighted the evolution of extremist ideologies in today's world, their diverse forms in terms of religion, politics, and intellect, and the tactical shifts they have undergone. Al-Issa outlined the importance of dialogue and debate in confronting extremist narratives, particularly in addressing misconceptions in and beyond the Islamic world. He said the missing link in many international efforts remains the quality of content and delivery in counter-extremism messaging. The MWL chief also addressed Islamophobia, discussing its causes and offering practical approaches to tackling the phenomenon. He was welcomed by the coalition's secretary-general, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, who attended the lecture alongside member state representatives and coalition personnel. Both sides explored ways to boost cooperation between the coalition and the Muslim World League to strengthen joint efforts in combating extremism and terrorism. Al-Moghedi praised Al-Issa's visit affirming the coalition's commitment to expanding constructive collaboration and unifying efforts in addressing terrorism, which poses a threat to global peace and security. Al-Issa was also briefed on the coalition's initiatives in four key domains — intellectual, media, counter-terror financing, and military — in addition to its specialized strategic programs. He praised the Kingdom's leadership for its support in fighting terrorism and extremism in all forms, stressing that the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition plays a pivotal role in addressing extremist ideologies and fostering international cooperation. Al-Issa commended the coalition's efforts at the Islamic and global levels to combat terrorism and violence.

France discussing ‘unjustified' arrest of citizen in Mali
PARIS: France's foreign ministry said Saturday that it was in talks with Mali over the arrest of a Frenchman accused of working with intelligence services to 'destabilize' the country, calling the claims 'unjustified.' 'Discussions are underway to clear up any misunderstanding' and obtain the 'immediate release' of the French embassy employee in Bamako, the ministry said. Mali authorities said Thursday that the French national had been arrested on suspicion of working for the French intelligence services, and accused 'foreign states' of trying to destabilize the country. The West African country's ruling junta, which came to power after back-to-back coups in 2020 and 2021, also said that dozens of soldiers had been detained for allegedly seeking to overthrow the government. France's foreign ministry said the arrested employee was covered by the Vienna convention on consular relations, meaning he should be released. Impoverished Mali has been gripped by a security crisis since 2012, fueled notably by violence from groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State jihadist group, as well as local criminal gangs. The junta, led by President Assimi Goita, has turned away from Western partners, notably former colonial power France, to align itself politically and militarily with Russia in the name of national sovereignty.

UK police seize Andrew Tate's $240,000 Aston Martin deposit
UK police said Friday they had seized a £180,000 ($240,000) deposit misogynist influencer Andrew Tate put down on an Aston Martin supercar amid allegations of unpaid taxes and money laundering. The amount paid towards the Aston Martin Valhalla car will be added to a pot of £2.7 million already seized from Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan in December 2024. Devon and Cornwall police in southwest England last year won a legal bid to seize the deposit, paid by Andrew Tate in July 2021 from a cryptocurrency account. The Tate brothers did not oppose the police's decision to pursue the funds, half of which can now be distributed to 'good causes' while the other half will be spent on public services. A London court was told the funds used to pay the deposit 'were the proceeds of tax and VAT evasion and money laundering,' according to a statement by the police. Passing judgement in the civil fraud case last year, Judge Paul Goldspring, who also presided over the latest order, said the influencer brothers, who have millions of followers on social media, had 'engaged in long-standing conduct to evade their tax.' Andrew Tate often boasts online about his multi-million-dollar supercar collection, which forms a key part of his persona promoting toxic masculinity and hustle culture. In an X post earlier this month, he claimed to own 93 cars. He moved to Romania years ago after first starting a webcam business and then became a reality TV star in the UK. Tate later turned to social media platforms to promote his divisive views, including misogynistic and sometimes violent maxims. The Tate brothers face allegations of trafficking minors, sexual intercourse with a minor and money laundering in Romania. They also face rape and assault allegations in separate cases in Britain, with a civil trial due in June 2026. The brothers, who have British-US nationality, have denied all accusations.
