It's understood the suspect used a flammable liquid at the front of the premises before setting it on fire and then fleeing the scene.
Gardai are examining CCTV from the area in a bid to identify the suspect.
Officers were also examining the scene of the arson attack in Crumlin, a suburb of the Irish capital, in a bid to gather evidence.
The blaze will be investigated as criminal damage caused by fire.
It's understood Gardai intend to speak to McGregor about the fire.
But if he's not available, detectives will attempt to speak to the bar's management.
Gardai are also trying to establish a motive for the arson attack.
The former cage fighter is believed to be overseas but is aware of the attack.
A source said: "Some type of flammable liquid was used at the entrance to the pub before being set alight.
"There was a small fire at the door that was quickly brought under control.

"One individual was involved in the incident and quickly ran from the scene.
"Thankfully there was no one around at the time and nobody was injured."
Investigators are now trying to establish a motive for the incident.
They are probing if the bar was targeted to intimidate McGregor or is linked to individuals who have socialised in the bar.
One local told us: "McGregor's bar has been quiet recently but it's no surprise to nearby residents this has happened.
"The homes near the pub were woken up by the sound of fire engines and sirens.
"The fire was extinguished pretty quickly and then the guards were back first thing to examine the pub.
"It's hard to know who was behind this attack because he's not popular with everyone in this community."
This is the second time McGregor's pub has been targeted in an arson attack.
In 2022, a petrol bomb was thrown at the bar but it failed to ignite.
Following that incident, McGregor also installed bullet proof windows in the pub.
The investigation into the latest attack is being led by officers from Crumlin Garda station.
Gardai confirmed an investigation was ongoing.
A spokesperson said: "Gardai attended the scene of an incident of criminal damage at a licenced premises on the Drimnagh Road, Crumlin that occurred at approximately 3am on Friday 25th July.
"The fire was extinguished by the Dublin Fire Brigade.
"No injuries have been reported.
"The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted in due course. Investigations are ongoing."
A spokesperson from Dublin Fire Brigade added: "Firefighters from Dolphin's Barn were mobilised to the address and on arrival found a small fire at the front of the building.
"Using a high pressure hose reel, one fire engine dealt with the incident and no injuries were reported. The scene was handed over to Gardai."

Reacting to the scenes today, McGregor defiantly posted a video on Instagram while holidaying with his family on a boat.
'UNBEATABLE'
Before drinking from a can of Forge beer, he said: "The pub is open for business today folks.
"You wouldn't get through it with a rocket launcher. She's spotless.
"Up the forge!"
He later posted an aerial shot of the pub, captioned: "UNBEATABLE!".
Pictures taken today have revealed the extent of the clear up from the fire, with workmen spotted repairing the exterior of the building.
The former UFC World Champion's bar was previously targeted in January 2022.
Yobs armed with petrol bombs attacked the venue just hours after the fighter had been there.
At the time, cops said they were investigating attempted criminal damage.
He purchased the Irish pub for roughly £2million in 2019.
In a statement released after the "unprovoked" attack, The Black Forge Inn management team confirmed staff and customers had not been harmed.
It read: 'After hours last night it appears that criminals made an unprovoked effort to inflict damage to the Black Forge Inn.
'There was no damage done to any patrons, employees or the Forge and Mr. McGregor was not on the premises at the time of the incident.
"The Gardai have opened an investigation into the event. We are open and busy as always.'
It comes as the star was embroiled in a cheating scandal earlier this month, after being spotted cosying up to a number of women.
The Sun revealed how McGregor had been seen with a mystery blonde in a Dublin nightclub - just days before he was spotted kissing another woman in Florida.
The former UFC champion was pictured smiling with his hands around a blonde woman's waist.
A shocked fan snapped the pair on July 6 at Soho nightclub in the Irish capital.
Days later, McGregor was spotted kissing a bikini-clad mystery woman on a beach.
They were seen packing on the PDA in full sight of other beachgoers.
He then laid down a towel for the woman and wrapped an arm around her shoulders in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The athlete has been engaged to Dee Devlin since 2020 and they share four children together.
McGregor's long-time fiancee appeared to brush it off as she took to social media to wish him a happy birthday.
Putting on a united front, she also posted a series of photos of herself and the fighter beaming together.
She seems to be staying loyal to her partner, even after he packed on the PDA with another woman.
The latest scandal comes as leaked nudes McGregor sent to Azealia Banks were posted online by the rapper.
She alleges the fighter sent her the photos on X unprompted - despite her not following him back.
The rapper claims the messages were sexual harassment, but also said that she sent the boxer nude pictures as well in a sexting-back and-forth since 2016.

Minute's silence held at Croke Park for mother and children killed in Maguiresbridge

Vanessa Whyte and her two teenage children were honoured with a minute's silence at Croke Park on Sunday, just moments before throw-in at the All Ireland senior football final between the Donegal and Kerry men's teams. Ms Whyte (45), her son James (14) and daughter Sara (13) died following a fatal shooting at her Maguiresbridge home in Co Fermanagh earlier this week. Emergency services were called to the address via a 999 call from within the house, shortly before 8.30am on Wednesday morning. Ms Whyte, who was recently promoted to a senior veterinary role within the Department of Agriculture, was pronounced dead at the scene alongside Sara. James later passed away from his injuries at South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen. The PSNI confirmed their lines of investigation include a suspected triple homicide and attempted suicide. Maguiresbridge vigil takes place as book of condolence opens at young shooting victims' former school Ian Rutledge – father to the teenagers and husband to Ms Whyte – is believed to have suffered self-inflicted gunshot wounds and is currently in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. He is the main suspect in the killings. On Sunday afternoon, just before the Irish national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, was played at Croke Park, an image of Ms Whyte, Sara and James was displayed on the stadium's main large screen, and the crowd led a minute's silence tribute for the three family members, who were dedicated players and fans of the GAA. Text on the screen at Croke Park read: 'Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha' – which translates from Irish into English as: 'May their souls be seated on God's right hand.' All three were 'beloved and active' members of St Mary's Maguiresbridge Gaelic Football Club and Lisbellaw Hurling Club. The hurling club said that Ms Whyte was 'first and foremost a devoted mum to James and Sara and they were the centre of her world'. A spokesperson added: 'James came to us at four years old, miles ahead of his peers in his ability and skill. He was a quiet, cheeky lovable rogue and at the same time a leader for his teammates as their captain a number of times over the years. He came up through the ranks with a small group of very close friends who forged a bond that will be forever remembered. 'Sara followed up a year later and even when she was the only girl on the team this didn't phase her, she could hurl with any of them. She was quiet but by no means a pushover and could stand up for herself on the pitch. She was gutted when the rules meant she couldn't continue to hurl after under 12 and there was no camogie for her to play. "Even after finishing playing, she was the boy's main supporter at every game, pucking the ball alongside them. Every function or event we held she was always Mam's right hand woman ready to run here and there as needed. We will all miss her quiet presence and lovely smile.' Meanwhile, a separate tribute from St Mary's GFC reads: 'Vanessa's devotion to her family and our games was well known, but to say she wore her heart on her sleeve seems like an understatement in Vanessa's case. Vanessa's heart was there for everyone to see each and every time James and Sara would take to the pitch. She had a passion for our games that encompassed everything good about the GAA showing dedication, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, and it was clear to see how Vanessa instilled these same values in her children. 'Captain of our U14 team this year, James' energy and drive was the heartbeat of our team and he had the confidence to be vocal and show leadership to younger team members. "During games his enthusiasm and strength of character was only echoed by that of Vanessa and Sara who would inevitably be cheering him on from the sideline. At training, those of us lucky enough to be involved would see James the joker. "His playfulness and sense of humour may have earned his teammates more push-ups than they would've like on occasion, but his light-hearted nature and kindness always enhanced team morale and made our time together all the more enjoyable and memorable. 'A part of our ladies club, Sara displayed a mix of quiet resolve with dogged determination. An exceptionally well behaved girl, Sara was a joy to be around and always had a smile on her face. Like Vanessa and James, Sara shared a love of all things GAA and their beloved County Clare, a regular source of playful goading, which we will now forever miss. 'Our club has lost 3 treasured members, and our community has lost 3 great personalities. It will take time to come to terms with this loss and our thoughts and prayers are with all those whose lives they have touched.' Ms Whyte was originally from Co Clare, and was an avid fan of its inter-county hurling team also. A prayer service will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ms Whyte's home village of Barefield tonight at 7pm.

Sumeera Rajput, who had thousands of followers and over a million likes on the social media platform, was discovered in the Bago Wah area of Ghotki, in northern Sindh, Pakistan, in yet another case of violence against women content creators in the country. Sumeera's death comes weeks after police in Pakistan said TikTok sensation Sana Yousaf, 17, was murdered in her own home following "repeated rejections" of a man who had tried to "reach out to her time and again." A 22-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder after had been spotted lingering outside Sana's residence for hours. MMA fighter Conor McGregor speaks out after blaze tears through his £2million Dublin pub

Conor McGregor has broken his silence after his Dublin pub was engulfed by flames yesterday morning in an incident that has seen police launch a 'criminal damage' investigation. The 37-year-old MMA star bought The Black Forge Inn for around £2million and the latest fire is not the first time it has been seen fully ablaze in the years he has owned it. In 2022, thugs attacked the pub with petrol bombs just hours after the former UFC world champion was there. And on Friday morning footage emerged of the building on fire again, with bright flames and thick plumes of smoke seen billowing out of the entrance. Several firefighters descended on the pub on Drimnagh Road in Crumlin, a southern suburb of the Irish capital, as they battled to put the fire out just after 3am. Garda officers were also called to the scene. Now, McGregor has taken to social media to thank the fire service for their 'incredible' and 'swift' response time as he shared a picture of the pub staff holding a cake outside the premises today. He wrote on X: 'Happy fourth birthday to the best pub in the world. I wish to extend my sincere thank you, respect, and appreciation to our Dublin Fire Brigade, who were so incredibly impressive and swift in their response time! 'Record breaking Dublin Fire Brigade! Thank you! I also wish to thank my internal team, who sprung so quickly into action to defend, mend, and repair our world and way of living, that even I jumped! Bravo all round!' McGregor concluded the post by writing 'Up the Forge, Vote McGregor' in what is seemingly a nod to his audacious bid to become the President of Ireland, which he first announced in March. A Garda spokesman told MailOnline after the blaze yesterday: 'Gardaí attended the scene of an incident of criminal damage at a licenced premises on the Drimnagh Road, Crumlin that occurred at approximately 3:00am on Friday, 25th July 2025. 'The fire was extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade. No injuries have been reported. The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted in due course. Investigations are ongoing.' Dublin Fire Brigade said it was called at 3.08am, where firefighters found a 'small fire at the front of the building'. 'Using a high pressure hose reel, one fire engine dealt with the incident and no injuries were reported,' a spokesman added. 'The scene was handed over to Gardai.' MailOnline contacted The Black Forge Inn and McGregor's representatives for comment. McGregor is often seen hosting celebrities at his Dublin boozer. American rapper 50 Cent celebrated his 50th birthday there ahead of his performance at Longitude Festival earlier this month. The blaze also follows a tumultuous period for McGregor who has been embroiled in another scandal amid claims he has cheated on fiancée Dee Devlin. Firefighters were seen battling to put out the blaze at McGregor's pub in Dublin yesterday McGregor found himself in controversy this month when he was photographed kissing a mystery brunette woman on a beach in Fort Lauderdale. With his partner Dee - whom he has been engaged to since 2020 - nowhere in sight, questions were raised about their relationship. Rapper Azealia Banks then added to the furore as she took to X - formerly known as Twitter - to accuse McGregor of sexual harassment. Last week, Ms Banks, 34, shared nude photos which purported to show McGregor, which she claimed he sent to her unprompted. Amid the storm, McGregor and Devlin have firmly brushed off the criticism by continuing to show their affections for one another, and put on a very cosy display in one outing. The couple have been enjoying time in Sardinia together to celebrate McGregor's 37th birthday - which was on July 14. But it is the latest embarrassment to hit the sportsman's relationship with his partner Dee, who was ever-present by his side throughout his sexual assault court case last year. In 2024, Conor lost a civil case as jurors at the High Court in Dublin found him liable of raping Nikita Hand, 35, in a Dublin hotel on December 9, 2018, with the judge awarding Hand €250,000 in damages. Azealia Banks set the internet ablaze after sharing alleged nude photos of Conor that she claims the disgraced star sent unprompted (pictured in 2022) But despite the verdict, Dee emphatically made it clear that she intended to back McGregor - attacking Nikita in a series of posts on Instagram at the time. In the posts, she wrote: 'Conor and I dealt with these issues privately many years ago, as should be done in a relationship and we have come out stronger than ever. 'We have four beautiful children now whose smiling faces and happy hearts are a testament to who he is and who we are!' The pair have been together for 15 years and got engaged in August 2020 after Conor proposed while they were celebrating his birthday. The couple met as teenagers at a nightclub in 2008 and Dee has been a key player in the MMA star's story, supporting him when he was jobless and focused on making it as a professional fighter.
