Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi to visit India on May 8, says Embassy of Iran in India

Times of Oman05-05-2025
New Delhi: Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to visit India, the Embassy of Iran in India shared the information on Monday in a post on X.
As per the embassy, the Iranian Foreign Minister will visit India after a stop in Islamabad where he will hold talks with Pakistani officials.
"Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to visit India this Thursday, after holding talks with Pakistani officials in Islamabad", the post on X read.
The top diplomat is set to participate in the Joint Economic Commission, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said in a press briefing in Tehran as reported by state media IRNA.
On April 25, the Iranian Foreign Minister had given a call for peace to prevail in neighbourhood in a post on X. From his personal account, Araghchi had called India and Pakistan as the foremost priority.
His call for peace came in the wake of the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam targeted tourists, killing 26 people.
He had shared that Tehran stands "ready" to put its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to use for forging a "greater understanding at this difficult time".
He wrote on X, "India and Pakistan are brotherly neighbors of Iran, enjoying relations rooted in centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties. Like other neighbors, we consider them our foremost priority. Tehran stands ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to forge greater understanding at this difficult time, in line with the spirit taught by Persian poet Saadi:
Human Beings are members of a whole
In creation of one essence and soul
If one member is inflicted with pain
Other members uneasy will remain"
Following the Pahalgam attack, India has taken strong countermeasures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism.
In the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 23, India decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism and closes the integrated Attari Check Post. India has also declared the officials of the Pakistani High Commission persona non grata and ordered them to leave India within a week.
The central government also decided to cancel any visas provided under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) and ordered Pakistan to leave the country within 48 hours. The Government of India also immediately suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals.
Amid the ongoing tensions, India also imposed an immediate ban on the direct or indirect import and transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, regardless of their import status, effectively halting bilateral trade flows, according to a notification by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Oman condemns Israeli statements on so-called "Greater Israel"

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has strongly condemned the statements made by the Prime Minister of the Israeli government and his claims regarding the so-called "Greater Israel'. Oman expressed its categorical rejection of his illegal expansionist schemes, which blatantly violate international law and infringe upon the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their lands in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem as its capital. In a statement issued today by the Foreign Ministry, Oman emphasized that these expansionist propositions pose a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, fueling hostility and tension at a time when de-escalation, cooperation among regional states, and respect for the principles of national sovereignty and good neighborliness are most needed. Oman also reaffirmed its steadfast stance in supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states and its firm rejection of any schemes aimed at undermining national entities or altering the political geography of the region. Oman reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish an independent state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. The Sultanate of Oman has called upon the international community to take a firm stance against these aggressive policies and to work toward safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people, ensuring the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Muscat – Oman has included citizens of the Republic of Armenia in its list of countries exempt from entry visa, a move announced during the fifth round of political consultations held in Yerevan on Tuesday. The talks were led by H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in Foreign Ministry, and Vahan Kostanyan, Armenia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. H E Sheikh Khalifa welcomed Armenia's decision to open a resident embassy in Muscat and expressed appreciation for Armenia's recent move to exempt Omani citizens from tourist visa requirements. H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in Foreign Ministry In July, Oman's Foreign Ministry announced that Omanis would be exempt from visas when travelling to Armenia, effective July 1, 2025. Under the new policy, Omanis can stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within a one-year period without needing a prior visa. The exemption aims to boost tourism, business exchanges and cultural ties between the two nations. Earlier in April, the Armenian Cabinet approved the opening of a resident embassy in Oman, highlighting the dynamic growth of Armenia's relations with Gulf countries and deepening of friendly ties with Oman. The Armenian foreign ministry acknowledged Oman's balanced foreign policy and neutral stance in regional matters, which it credits for fostering dialogue and cooperation among regional powers. The visa exemption and diplomatic developments mark a significant step in enhancing the strategic partnership between Oman and Armenia, opening new avenues for economic and cultural collaboration.
