CM Stalin inaugurates statues, memorial halls in Pollachi
CM Stalin also inaugurated two halls in memory of VK Palaniswami and Pollachi N Mahalingam, and a memorial hall at a cost of Rs 2.83 crore in the Aliyar dam park for those who lost their lives in the accident that occurred during the construction of PAP. He named the office complex of the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department in Pollachi as 'C Subramaniam Complex' and inaugurated the statues at the premises during the event.
In the 2021-22 assembly session, Stalin had announced the construction of the memorial hall and bust of VK Palaniswami Gounder, who was key behind the development of PAP.
Two new two-storey halls were constructed to host programmes such as training and seminars for agricultural luminaries. Following completion of work, Stalin inaugurated the two-storey 'VK Palaniswami Hall' and 'Pollachi N Mahalingam Hall', built at a cumulative cost of Rs 4.29 crore. Later, he visited the photo exhibition set up at VK Palaniswami Hall to educate the younger generation and the general public about the importance of water management and PAP.

Prawn farmers seek govt help
Ongole: The leaders of prawn farmers' associations from the south coastal districts have demanded that the government supply electricity at Rs 1.50 per unit, reduce the price of soy feed by Rs 15 per kg, and immediately take measures to rescue them from the tariffs imposed by Trump. The district leaders of the prawn farmers from Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Guntur, and Krishna met in Ongole on Tuesday, as Prakasam district Prawn Farmers Association president Duggineni Gopinath presided over the meeting. They discussed the plight of prawn farmers and the effect of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on India, and passed resolutions. Observing the reduction in price of soy and other raw materials used to manufacture feed for the prawns, the farmers demanded that the government see the companies reduce at least Rs 15 per kg in the price of the feed, and supply electricity to all prawn ponds at Rs 1.50 per unit. They demanded an MSP of Rs 250 per 100 count Vanamai prawns, Rs 400 per 30 count Vanamai, Rs 470 per 30 count of Tiger prawns, and provide a bonus if the exporters didn't pay the price. They also asked the government to introduce prawns in the menu of meals at government schools, hostels, and Anganwadi centres. The farmers also demanded that the government ensure that about 30 percent of the prawns procured by exporters are sold in local markets, provide loans at a 50 percent subsidy to establish processing units, and encourage exports to Australia, South Korea, and European countries to reduce dependency on the US and China. The Prawn Farmers Association state vice-president, K Srinath Reddy, assistant secretary, M Venkateswara Rao, presidents, secretaries, and leaders from the district associations also participated in the meeting.

Centre approves 2 semiconductor units for Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said the Union Cabinet's approval for the establishment of two semiconductor units in Odisha will accelerate the State's growth in the sector. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the Centre's approval of the two semiconductor units in Odisha. Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, approved four more semiconductor projects under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), two of which will come to Odisha and one each for Punjab and Andhra Pradesh. After the Union Cabinet meeting, Vaishnaw said a silicon carbide semiconductor plant will be set up in Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 2,066 crore by SiCsem Pvt Ltd. 'Silicon carbide is a very robust material and can sustain at high temperatures. Silicon carbide is used in our missiles, satellites, telecom towers, rockets, railway engines, etc,' Vaishnaw said. The minister said the plant will have a capacity to produce 9.6 crore chips per year. The Cabinet also approved US chip major Intel-backed 3D Glass semiconductor manufacturing unit in Odisha with an investment of Rs 1,943 crore. The plant will be set up by Heterogenous Integration Packaging Solutions Private Limited with an annual production capacity of 5 crore units. 'I sincerely express my gratitude to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for the Central Cabinet's approval of the establishment of two semiconductor manufacturing units in Odisha,' Majhi said in a post on X. The Chief Minister said the recent amendment of the Odisha Semiconductor Manufacturing and Fabless Policy, aimed at enhancing investment viability, competitiveness and sustainability, together with this significant Cabinet approval, marks a major milestone in the State's industrial and technological advancement. SicSem Private Limited is collaborating with Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, UK, to establish an integrated facility of Silicon Carbide (SiC) based Compound Semiconductors in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar. This project proposes to manufacture Silicon Carbide devices. This compound semiconductor fab will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and packaging capacity of 96 million units. The proposed products will have applications in missiles, defence equipment, electric vehicles (EVs), railway, fast chargers, data centre racks, consumer appliances, and solar power inverters, an official statement said. 3D Glass Solutions Inc (3DGS) will be setting up a vertically integrated advanced packaging and embedded glass substrate unit in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar. This unit will bring the world's most advanced packaging technology to India. Advanced packaging brings the next generation of efficiency to semiconductor industry.
