Projecting Texas A&M's 2025 basketball lineup after Pop Isaac's commitment
Tuesday morning brought very good news for new Texas A&M head basketball coach Bucky McMillan, starting with the landing of former Texas Tech and Creighton standout guard Pop Isaacs, paired with the official return of Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who recently participated in the NBA Combine this month.
With Mgbako officially signed and ready to play in 2025, the Aggies' roster is more than talented enough to make the NCAA Tournament next season, especially with Pop Isaacs, who is deemed to become one of the program's starters based on his elite play with the Bluejays last season, averaging 16 points per game before his season-ending injury.
Overall, McMillan has more than enough to work with during in inaugural campaign, and it's crazy to think that after Buzz Williams departed for Maryland, Texas A&M's roster was gutted, leaving sophomore forward Chris McDermott as the lone name left. So far, every need has been filled, and for those who have lost track of every new addition from the portal, here is where things currently stand, and how the 2025 starting lineup could look.
Point guard, senior Pop Isaacs (Texas Tech/Creighton)
Shooting guard, redshirt junior Marcus Hill (NC State)
Small forward, senior Rylan Griffen (Alabama/Kansas)
Power forward, junior Mackenzie Mgbako (NC State)
Center, redshirt senior Federiko Federiko (Texas Tech)
Point guard (Sixth man) senior Jacari Lane (Alabama State)
Power forward, redshirt senior Rashaun Agee (USC)
Shooting guard, junior Josh Holloway (Samford)
Power forward, sophomore Jamie Vinson (Texas)
Power forward, redshirt sophomore Zach Clemence (Kansas)
Point guard, freshman Jeremiah Green (2025 signee)
Power forward sophomore Chris McDermott
With five guards, six forwards, and versatile center Federiko Federiko, McMillan has all but completed his 2025 roster, barring any last-minute additions heading into the 2025 season. Compared to Buzz Williams' previous rosters, this is by far the most talented Texas A&M has had in several seasons based on recruiting rankings and production.

Oklahoma QB John Mateer named to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list

The buzz surrounding the Oklahoma Sooners' new starting quarterback, John Mateer. He's been included on a number of watch lists this offseason and is a dark horse candidate to contend for the Heisman Trophy. On Wednesday, Mateer was included on another watch list, this time for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award goes to the offensive player of the year who played his high school or college football in the state of Texas or was born in Texas. Oklahoma Sooners quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray won the awards in back-to-back seasons during their Heisman runs in 2017 and 2018. The two were standout quarterbacks in Texas high school football and started their careers at universities in the state of Texas before transferring to Oklahoma. Mateer could be on a similar path with the Sooners in 2025. Though there are more unknowns on the offensive side of the ball than there were when OU entered the 2017 or 2018 seasons, Mateer could very well be the answer to a lot of the questions with his dual-threat ability. The former three-star quarterback has been lauded for his ability to make plays when things break down and for his competitive drive. And if he's able to translate that to Oklahoma and the SEC, Mateer could end the season in the running for a number of postseason awards. Oklahoma Sooners quarterback named to Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer isn't new to preseason award watch lists. He's already stockpiled nods for the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Davey O'Brien awards this summer. On Tuesday, his name was added to a fourth watch list, breaking a tie with running back Jaydn Ott for the most recognitions on the team. Mateer and Ott are currently the only players on OU's roster with more than two watch list appearances. Mateer was named to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Tuesday. The award is given to the nation's top quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement. Mateer arrives, along with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, from Washington State, where the pair found success together last season. By all accounts, Mateer has been the leader this team needed on the field and in the locker room, and the new offense has the players excited for what this team can do when the Sooners have the ball this fall. Oklahoma is hoping to make some noise in their second season in the SEC. After making big changes all over the program this offseason, including Arbuckle and Mateer, the Sooners need a big season in their fourth year with head coach Brent Venables at the helm. Otherwise, even bigger changes could be coming to Norman next offseason. How long is Caitlin Clark out for? Fever share latest injury update

Clark's status remains 'status quo' Though it's not the news that Indiana fans were hoping for, the Fever did provide a bit of an injury update on star point guard Caitlin Clark on Wednesday. Asked after practice for an update on Clark, Fever head coach Stephanie White indicated circumstances haven't changed much for the Indiana superstar. "I mean, until she can get into practice and until you guys see her in practice, we're really status quo. Same as we have been," White said. White had said before last Sunday's Fever win that Indiana still hoped Clark could return before regular season's end. "That's the hope. The hope is that she's back," White said before Sunday's win. Despite optimism from fans that recent roster moves were an indication of Clark's imminent return, a Fever spokesperson clarified to the IndyStar earlier this week that the organization's recent roster moves didn't have anything to do with the injury status of star guard Caitlin Clark. Clark has been sidelined by a series of injuries during the 2025 WNBA season. A left quadriceps injury, a left groin injury and this right groin injury have all cost Clark significant time during the 2025 campaign. With this news from White, it certainly seems as though Clark's stretch of regular season games missed due to injury will stretch to at least 14 straight. Clark has missed each of the Fever's past 13 regular season games with her right groin injury. That marked the 22nd regular season game that Clark has missed during the 2025 WNBA season and the 23rd game overall, including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final. This latest update from coach White doesn't feel like the most promising development for fans holding out hope that Clark will indeed still return from injury in the 2025 season. ESPN play-by-play broadcaster Ryan Ruocco said during the Fever's Tuesday, Aug. 12 game against the Dallas Wings that the Fever were hoping that Clark would return to practice this week. "Now, that stretch where they have the week off is where Stephanie White reiterated to us today she's hoping Caitlin Clark returns to practice. Stephanie talked yesterday about how Caitlin has been running more, doing more on-court work. "She is hoping that Caitlin returns to practice next week, would need multiple days of practice before she then gets into a game, but you see the way the schedule stacks up after that week and wonder could one of those games against Minnesota or maybe the 26th at home against Seattle be a potential return game," Ruocco said. Obviously, that return to practice for Clark hasn't happened yet, and it's beginning to seem like it could be telling. Limited to 13 games this season, Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game on 36.7% field-goal shooting and 27.9% 3-point accuracy.
