Birmingham museums chief puts out plea for 'angel investor' as Ozzy exhibition pulls in crowds
Sara, joint CEO of the trust that runs the Museum and Art Gallery, said more than 50,000 people had visited the city centre location in just two weeks - more than triple the number that would have attended in a typical fortnight pre-Covid.
In a post on LinkedIn, she revealed that now was the time to capitalise on the interest of so many visitors. "This (number was achieved) against a backdrop of national declining visitor levels in a city where dire public finances are crippling public services, in a museum that is still only half open and hasn't even been able to open all week round.

"There is no clearer indication of the value and need for free civic museums and of how hard our teams are working to overcome these incredibly adverse conditions," she said.
The documentary series 'Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues' had shown how Birmingham City Football Club was turning fortunes around after being relegated, and what that means for its fans and the people of Birmingham - aided by the massive Knighthead investment, she said.
She wrote: "I don't know much about football but what I take from this story is that we are achieving similar (to the Blues) but without an angel investor.
"The time is now for a massive injection of cash into Birmingham Museums Trust. Our fate is not to be the plucky underdogs who were relegated.
"We are winners - the rest of the world just needs to catch on to this incredible investment opportunity for social returns before they miss the boat."

The city's cultural gem, next to Birmingham City Council House, closed in 2020 for essential maintenance works but partially reopened in 2022 for the Commonwealth Games.
It then reopened in phases in 2024, with a number of spaces such as the Round Room Gallery welcoming members of the public for the first time in years. It relies largely on public funding and donations.
The Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero exhibition opened at the venue on June 25 to coincide with Black Sabbath's farewell concert at Villa Park on 5 July. Ozzy died two weeks later and his funeral cortege through the city drew another mass of fans into the centre.
Initially, the free exhibition was due to close on Sunday 28 September, but demand from the public has caused the museum to display the exhibition until Sunday 18 January, "to allow for more fans to see it" - with the generous backing of the Osbourne family.
Since the exhibition's opening, the museum has seen over 96,000 visitors through its doors.

HBO's HARRY POTTER Series Reveals First Look at the Weasley Family with New Cast Announcement — GeekTyrant
The Weasleys are officially stepping into the spotlight in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series remake, and the magical family is already looking pretty great. While we've seen a steady stream of casting news for Hogwarts students, the red-headed wizarding clan is now starting to take shape, and we have a first look. We already knew that Alastair Stout would be playing Ron Weasley, Harry's loyal best friend, and Katherine Parkinson would take on the role of Molly Weasley, the loving matriarch. Now HBO has unveiled the young actors playing four more of Ron's siblings. Stepping into the roles of the mischievous twins Fred and George are real-life brothers Tristan and Gabriel Harland, while Ruari Spooner has been cast as the rule-abiding Percy Weasley. The youngest sibling, Ginny, the only daughter in the family, will be played by Gracie Cochrane. HBO revealed the cast with a fun selfie featuring the four newcomers alongside Stout, shared on Instagram. The Weasley family plays a major role in the Harry Potter universe, and since HBO is aiming for a more faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling 's books, their presence will be even more significant. These newly announced characters all appear in the first book, but there are still a few Weasleys left to cast. Arthur Weasley, the quirky and loveable patriarch, hasn't been revealed yet, but since he becomes a major player starting with the second book, he'll need to be cast soon, likely before production begins on Season 2. There's also Charlie Weasley, who might at least get a name-drop this season. In the book, Charlie plays a part in helping smuggle the baby dragon Norbert out of Hogwarts, a scene the films trimmed down, but one that the series now has time to explore more fully. Charlie doesn't physically appear until the fourth book, so his casting could wait unless HBO wants to show photos of him in the Weasley household. That same question goes for Bill Weasley, who becomes a bigger part of the story beginning in Goblet of Fire and shows up consistently through to the end. Whether the series casts him and Charlie early on just for background family moments, like Molly's magical 'grandfather clock', is still up in the air. In the movies, the clock featured photos of each family member, but the show might take a simpler route with names instead. For now, we've got a solid Weasley lineup to start the journey with Harry. HBO's Harry Potter series is currently filming and is slated to premiere sometime in early 2027.

Classic Rock of the 70s and Older
'I thought as a rock star I owed it to people to enjoy myself to the absolute limit,' writes Alex James, bass player for the 1990s Britpop band Blur, in 'Bit of a Blur,' his 2007 autobiography. 'It was a missed opportunity for everybody if I didn't. Turpitude, extreme immorality, is the privilege of the rock star,' he adds. 'No one else could get away with it. Even film stars and footballers have to conduct themselves with some degree of common decency. They're all answerable to somebody.' Let us salute Mr. James for his candor. There is an implied social contract here: The rock star is society's id. He lives the life of an amusing wastrel, entertaining us all until he flames out spectacularly, usually around 27 years old, and leaves behind an important moral lesson about the dangers of self-indulgence, while making us all grateful for our sedate lives in middle management.

Coldplay's Chris Martin refuses to ditch jumbotron cameras despite Astronomer CEO cheating scandal
Coldplay's Chris Martin doubled down on the band's use of the jumbotron despite a playful moment that uncovered a cheating scandal. "We've been doing [the Jumbotron] a long time, and it is only recently that it became a … yeah," Martin said during the band's England stop of the "Music of the Spheres" tour. "Life throws you lemons and you've got to make lemonade," he continued, according to HullLive. "So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you." Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigned from his role at his company after he was caught on the jumbotron at a Coldplay concert with his arms around the head of his company's HR department, Kristin Cabot. During Coldplay's performance on July 16, Byron appeared on the Kiss Cam with his arms wrapped around a woman, who was later identified as Cabot. The two were shown during Martin's "The Jumbotron Song," where the singer improvises lyrics about the couples shown to the crowd. Cabot immediately covered her face and turned away from the camera, while a stunned Byron ducked down and exited the frame. Martin then joked that, "Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy." The moment ignited speculation of infidelity across social media as video of the exchange went viral. On July 18, the tech firm posted a statement on X about the controversial incident. "Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability," the company shared. "The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly." On July 20, Astronomer informed its social media followers that Byron had resigned from the company. Cabot later resigned from her role as chief people officer at Astronomer, a week after the video of her cuddling up with Byron went viral. Martin seemingly poked fun at the viral moment days later. The lead singer chose to give fans a warning before showing people on the jumbotron. "How we're gonna do that is we're gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen," the singer said, while grinning. "So please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now."
