The Scotland-based premium spirits maker has unveiled 'The
Balvenie Fifty
', a 50-year-old ultra-rare Speyside
single malt
scotch whisky in the Indian market.
Only one bottle of 'The Balvenie Fifty First Edition' aged in a European oak refill cask, filled in 1973, has been made available in India, offering a unique opportunity for collectors and connoisseurs to own a piece of whisky history.
When asked about its price, Mehta said: "Balvenie Fifty is probably going to be in the range of Rs 70 lakh thereabouts".

William Grant & Sons India operates in the premium alcoholic beverage segment, where its portfolio includes Glenfiddich, Monkey Shoulder, Balvenie, Grant's and Hendrick's Gin.
"And our latest addition is a brand called The Famous Grouse," which has been added since July, he noted.
According to Mehta, India is among the top ten markets for William Grant & Sons and one of the few markets where it has established its own distribution company.
"It is one of the top priority markets within the global network of William Grant & Sons," he said.
India is the largest whisky market globally, where the market is witnessing premiumisation, supported by various factors, like a growing economy, rising middle-class income, growing numbers of millennials and white collar professionals.
When asked whether India has the potential to become one of the top 5 markets for William Grant & Sons, Mehta said: "India certainly has a very large potential. The story of the potential that India has is not hidden, and everybody knows about it. And that is true across all categories. And so much so, even for the single malts and Balvenie. So surely, it can be one of the top markets".
Moreover, factors like the recent free trade agreement between the governments of India and the UK, which, according to Mehta, is an "achievement" and the policies of the state governments in India are becoming "more and more progressive and consumer-friendly", with an increasing ease of doing business.
India is already a leading market for major global spirits makers. It is now the largest market for French spirit maker Pernod Ricard by volume and the second largest by value. It is also a key contributor to the British premium spirits maker Diageo.
On its single malt brand Glenfiddich, Mehta said, "It's one of the top-selling single malts in the country".
"Similarly, India is one of the top priority markets for that brand (Glenfiddich) as well, like it is for the Balvenie and it is for the rest of our portfolio," he added.
Besides, Mehta also expects growth from Balvenie, which operates in the premium side of single-malt whisky.
"India is a large whisky market, and there has been a lot of premiumisation. It really goes on to give us the confidence that our Indian consumer is now really looking for great value, and that value comes from aspirational brands like the Balvenie," he said.
Earlier, Balvenie was available in selected cities only, as it is an allocated product to specific markets. However, with increased allocation, it is now available in more cities across India.
"We are able to increase the stock availability in India, and we are looking to make it available in more and more cities," he said.
Besides, 50-year-old single malt scotch whisky, it has also amplified its play in the super premium segment - The Balvenie Thirty and The Balvenie Twenty-Five, both of which are available in a highly exclusive and limited release.

R Doraiswamy , CEO & MD, LIC , indicates a neutral stance on composite licenses, reaffirming the company's commitment to its core strength in life insurance. When it comes to VNB margin, we have been clearly communicating that we are focusing towards a regular but gradual buildup of our VNB margins so that we are not behind anybody and we are looking at building up in a continuous and consistent manner. Last year, we reached around 17.8%. As the year progresses, there will be progress in our VNB margin this year also. So, you are confident about more than 20% VNB margin this year? R Doraiswamy: I do not want to exactly pinpoint on a number, but one thing we can assure is that VNB margin will keep improving. We will be coming up with products which take care of the customer's needs as well as having a good VNB margin so that there will be improvement over the last year. The non-PAR share in APE is now 30%, with a jump of 32% in individual APE. What is LIC's target for non-PAR? Can we see that your focus will be on non-PAR only going ahead because the growth we are seeing is more than 30%? R Doraiswamy : When we became public, when the IPO came, we were an organisation which was very heavy on PAR products. Slowly the market's focus has also been changing. The people's preference is also turning towards guaranteed products and there is a good flare for non-PAR products. We also took a directional change in 2022 itself that we will be slowly improving the non-PAR component so that we are able to balance both, we will have PAR as well as non-PAR. Today, we have a very big bouquet of 51 products, out of which a substantial number are from non-PAR and the non-PAR is also getting the attraction of the customers. So, as you have said, the non-PAR AP has grown at a rate higher than the par. We have as of now reached 30% share of non-PAR APE; there may be some more increase to the non-PAR share in the near future but we will now also have par products added to the portfolio, by which we will have something around 40-60 or 45-55 kind of a proportion, that we will be able to reach, that is what we are looking at. 45% non-PAR, 55%-PAR? R Doraiswamy: We are a very strong company in PAR and the customers have been reposing trust on us on the PAR products for a quite long time…. But before listing I guess you were in single digit in non-PAR? R Doraiswamy: Yes, 7%. It has now…. R Doraiswamy: No, it can. See, the young population today are very comfortable with guaranteed products. There is a section of the population which is comfortable with LIC's traditional PAR products as well. So, we have to have a balance of both. We have to meet the needs of the customers. So, whatever is the flare, whatever customers feel better, that is what we have to offer. We are here to take care of the interest of the customers as our prime focus. So, we will keep a balance. There can be some more increase in non-PAR share, that is what we are looking at. So, one question that everybody wants to know from LIC, the policy holder, investor is about your plan of buying a stake in a standalone health insurance company. So, the previous timeline was 31st of March. Can we say that under your leadership, the timeline has increased? R Doraiswamy: I do not say I have changed any plan as of now. See, the situation keeps changing. We originally were contemplating taking a strategic stake in a standalone health insurance. With the current regulatory practices in place, we started looking at various options available before us. We did some due diligence also. But as we went forward, we found that we had to do something more than what was done by then. The board also felt that we need to increase our options and look at them on a more closer basis, one. Two, there has been change in the environment as well. Health insurance companies are starting to face some kind of a difficulty in the cost escalation and in those areas. So, we had to have a relook at it. We are still examining our options. We are expanding our options of looking at the companies where we can have a stake. In the meantime, there is talk of the statute changing and the regulatory changes that are expected from the regulator as well. So, we are also awaiting the changes that are going to happen. Based on the changes that are going to come up, we will be taking further steps in this direction. It is not completely ruled out. By regulatory changes you mean insurance act amendment which will have a provision of composite license ? R Doraiswamy: Yes, the insurance act amendment has been talked about for some time now and some parts of it were discussed. There were public discussions on that as well. One of the features that was mentioned was a composite licence. There was also talk about 100% FDI and other areas where there are changes to be brought. Last year, after October, the master circular on policy holder regulations, the master circular brought in some changes. We had to respond to that. We had to modify all our plans, start new plans as well and we had to tweak the conditions of the policy with the surrender value having been introduced in the first year. You just spoke about composite license. LIC has a reach in every village, every part of the country. You have around 15 lakh agents. When we talk about insurance, people understand LIC only. So, will you be interested in a composite license and if you go for it, will health be your preference or the other line of businesses also? R Doraiswamy: No, we are currently neutral to this idea. Our core strength is in life insurance. We are primarily a life insurer pan-India, completely covering the geographical area of the country and that will continue to be our focus. Most likely we will be taking very calculated steps as and when the statute changes. We are not planning to jump into either becoming a composite insurer or starting what you call distributing any other lines of business to start with. We will be evaluating how the situation emerges and based on that, we will take a call on these areas. We will remain focused as a life insurer. We are a major life insurer. We are a major pension provider. This segment will be our focus. That is why we would like to consolidate and improve our position. We are a market leader and we would like to remain that by a good margin.

Centre's advertising budget up by 84% since 2020-21: TMC quotes official data

TMC's analysis of the data on the DAVP website shows that the government spent Rs 349.24 crore on advertisements in 2020-21, which went down to Rs 274.87 crore in 2021-22. In 2022-23, the government spent Rs 347.38 crore on advertisements, which increased to Rs 656.08 crore in the pre-election year 2023-24. In 2024-25, the expenditure was Rs 643.63 crore. "Startling figures that show how the PM (Prime Minister) has become PRM (Public Relations Minister). That and not tabling answers in Parliament. New lows," O'Brien said. The total ad spent from 2020-21 till August 2025 is Rs 2,320.14 crore. The average expenditure per year for 66 ministries is Rs 454 crore.

Pay Commission expected to benefit GDP, consumer categories: Aditya Sood
Aditya Sood , Portfolio Manager, InCred Asset , says amidst tariff uncertainty and FII selling, the festival season offers a glimmer of hope. Rural consumption is expected to rebound strongly due to rising gold prices and balance sheet repair. Low unit consumption categories are likely to perform well. The upcoming Pay Commission is anticipated to positively impact GDP. Consumer categories are expected to benefit from the Pay Commission implementation. Look at the way the markets are playing out right now. We are trading in a range because we are still undecided on how the tariffs are likely to play out and what is going to be the impact. The 25th August meeting is yet to take place. But one thing is very clear that it is the domestic economy that will shape the future of Indian markets and therefore, earnings are going to be a big positive trigger. Till now, how have the earnings shaped up for you and in the second half, how do you see the earnings play out? Aditya Sood: As you rightly mentioned, earnings are very critical. If you step back, ever since the Covid lows, we had 25% CAGR in earnings getting delivered from 2020 to 2024. If you look at the long-term earnings trajectory, possibly it is like 12% CAGR in terms of earnings growth which is a combination of GDP growth and inflation, the nominal GDP growth. We believe that we are in a mean reverting environment. Nobody was expecting that the earnings growth is going to be in that 5% sort of a vicinity. So, our belief is that we would be in a 10% to 12% earnings growth trajectory. Having said that, there are certain elements which are very critical. The first one being credit growth. So, credit growth clearly needs to pick up. The liquidity is abundant at this point in time, but we do see a lack of fiscal impulse by the corporates in the sense that we do not see too much of capex happening. So the environment is very, very conducive. If you look at India's positioning, in terms of today, the risk-free rate has virtually collapsed. If you look at the bond yield differential between India and the US that leads me to believe that India's premium within the emerging market has already shrunk massively. We are in a very good environment as far as expansion of PE multiples are concerned and more importantly, in the last one year, the index has not gone anywhere, but one year return on a rolling basis is zero. We believe that this is a very conducive environment. The second half is going to be materially better in our view in terms of earnings growth essentially because of the base impact of earnings as well. There is tariff uncertainty. FIIs are constantly selling in the domestic markets. At the same time, the earnings season is not as great as we expected, at least the first half and at the same time, the positive triggers for the market are missing. The only ray of hope right now is the festival season which will kickstart with Raksha Bandhan and it will go for the second half till December. Do you see festival-related seasonality factors playing around? Which favourable sectors are on your radar? Aditya Sood: One has to take a one, one-and-a-half, two-year view. Post Covid, we saw urban consumption doing very well and one of the elements was mean reversion. For example, in a category like cars, basically an upgrade in terms of two-wheelers, we saw that playing out. The rural consumption story is directly correlated to income and with gold prices going up, I am a big believer that rural consumption will rebound very strongly on account of two fact factors. One is that a bit of a balance sheet repair has gone through because in a $4.5-trillion economy, we have got two $2.5 trillion of gold holding. If gold goes up by 45 odd percent in a year, it helps in terms of balance sheet repair, and so that is point number one. Point number two is that two things are happening in the consumption basket. One is low unit consumption which logically should do well. There are a lot of people who have upgraded from the bottom of the pyramid and they are just above the poverty line. We are very constructive on the low unit consumption categories. Then there is the additional trigger of the Pay Commission which is going to come through. In our view, this is going to have a 1% positive impact on GDP for the next year. Coming to the Pay Commission, if you go and see how consumer categories do in the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions, they always do well. Obviously, one has to take it with a pinch of salt in the sense that the number of employees on account of headcount of VRS and so on and so forth has gone down. It is not as large an impact as it used to be in the past, but still 1% of GDP is not a small impact.
