Minor rape survivor refuses med termination of pregnancy
Bhopal/Jabalpur: Parents of the minor rape survivor and the girl herself refused to undergo a procedure for medical termination of pregnancy after a medical report was presented in the high court.
The report stated that the minor rape survivor was nearly eight months pregnant, and there was a risk in the medical termination of pregnancy.
The case was referred to the high court by the district court, Balaghat, in accordance with the MP high court guidelines on the medical termination of pregnancy of rape survivors. These guidelines stipulate that the guidance of the high court is required if the period of pregnancy exceeds 24 weeks.
The bench of Justice Amit Seth took strong exception to the excessive delay in informing the court about the pregnancy of the rape victim. Referring to the MP high court guidelines on medical termination of pregnancy, the court stated that the SHO of the police station concerned should inform the district court as soon as a rape victim becomes pregnant. The court asked for a report from the state govt, including the case diary and other relevant documents, to explain the delay.

After receiving the report, the court asked the CMHO, Balaghat, to form a team of doctors to examine the girl and opine whether medical termination of pregnancy was possible and desirable. The committee, in its report, stated that the 14-year-old rape survivor was nearly eight months pregnant. The medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) could be undertaken, but the procedure would be risky. The committee further stated that after being informed about the risks involved in MTP, the parents of the girl and she herself were reluctant to undergo the procedure for termination of pregnancy.
Following this, the bench of Justice Amit Seth allowed the survivor to continue with the pregnancy and give birth to the child.

How a single blood sample could predict your lifespan, study finds
Source: Medical News Today Researchers have developed a method to assess 'intrinsic capacity', a measure of mental and physical function crucial for healthy aging, using just a single drop of blood or saliva. The new test that looks at DNA methylation could help predict a person's overall risk of death and even track how they're aging. Defined by the WHO, intrinsic capacity refers to 'all the physical and mental capacities that a person can draw on and includes their ability to walk, think, see, hear, and remember.' It is the sum of a person's mental and physical capacities. According to TheMedicalNewsToday, the innovative discovery could play a big role in helping people live healthier and longer lives through more personalized care. It offers a more accessible way to support healthy aging, making it easier and more accessible than traditional methods. Blood and saliva samples shed light on cellular aging From blood and saliva tests, the researchers collected data on DNA methylation- a process that activates or deactivates genes. Due to developmental mutations, environmental factors, and abnormal methylation patterns, DNA methylation changes over time. They used this information and data to construct an epigenetic predictor of intrinsic capacity (IC), then evaluated associations between IC clock and mortality. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Tracking aging and predicting risks The discovery of this blood test signifies a shift towards personalized healthcare, where interventions are tailored based on an individual's biological age. 'God Saved Me': Gujarat Doctor Cancels Air India London Flight Ticket That Later Crashed
Last Updated: It was his wife who first insisted he not travel while sick and urged him to cancel the flight. A doctor from Gujarat narrowly escaped tragedy and is now overwhelmed with gratitude toward his wife and family for persuading him to cancel his June 12 Air India flight to London. According to an NDTV report, Dr Umang Patel, a UK-based medical professional residing in Northampton for the past five years, had returned to his ancestral home in Koydam village in Gujarat's Mahisagar district on May 24 along with his wife, children, and their grandparents. While the family was meant to stay on, Patel had booked a solo return ticket for June 12. 'I had to go back alone on June 12. However, I developed high fever after a visit to my in-laws' house on June 9. The fever was so high I could not even stand the next morning," he was quoted as saying to NDTV. It was his wife who first insisted he not travel while sick and urged him to cancel the flight. Patel recalled that after his wife urged him not to travel in his unwell condition, he cancelled his June 12 ticket, decided to rest, and rebooked his flight for June 15, only to later learn that the June 12 flight had crashed. 'God saved me. I also pray that God gives peace to all the souls who were on that aircraft." The NDTV report added that the near-miss left many villagers shaken. Neighbors visited the Patel family home to offer prayers and moral support, grateful that tragedy had been averted. First Published: June 16, 2025, 09:03 IST
