1L students to get free JEE/NEET coaching
Vijayawada: In a major initiative aimed at democratising access to competitive exam preparation, the Andhra Pradesh government launched a comprehensive programme to provide free, high-quality coaching and study material for JEE and NEET to over 1,00,000 students across 1,355 government junior colleges.
The announcement was made by Education Minister Nara Lokesh, who emphasised the government's commitment to equitable educational opportunities.
"We are giving every Andhra child a fair chance to dream big and achieve bigger," the minister said, highlighting the unprecedented scale of the programme.
This initiative, which will benefit MPC and BiPC students across the state, marks the first time such a large-scale endeavor has been undertaken in the state's education system to empower students from economically weaker backgrounds to compete at the national level for admission into top engineering and medical colleges.
A specialised study material for physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics has been developed over six months by a team of leading subject experts from both government and private educational institutions.
To facilitate dedicated coaching, college timings have been extended from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm to 9:00 am–5:00 pm. Students will now receive a minimum of two dedicated hours of coaching daily based on the new curriculum. Junior lecturers have undergone specialised training to effectively deliver the content.
Beyond just study materials, the programme incorporates the best practices from top private institutions, including weekly tests, performance reviews, and regular progress tracking, all now implemented within government colleges.
Lokesh reiterated. "We are creating an environment where every child in Andhra Pradesh can prepare confidently for JEE, NEET, and other national-level exams."
This initiative will significantly bridge the existing gap between private and government education, aligning with the 'Andhra Pradesh Model of Education', he added. "Our government firmly believes that quality education must be a right, not a privilege," Lokesh remarked.

He also mentioned the recent job mela conducted for 5,000 unemployed individuals, which resulted in 1,450 job placements. With four years left in the term, the MLA vowed to fully develop the urban constituency and asserted that Andhra Pradesh would be elevated to the number one position globally.

NEET scam accused applies for bail, claims case was based on hearsay
MUMBAI: Salim Patel, one of the accused arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly defrauding NEET candidates by promising to secure seats for them in government medical colleges, has applied for bail, claiming that he was falsely implicated and the entire case was based on hearsay. As per the CBI, Patel, along with the other accused, contacted parents of candidates who appeared for the exam, promising them higher marks in the NEET UG exam. They promised to get help from officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and assured the students of admission in government medical colleges. The plea stated that Patel did not take advantage of any government officer, adding that the CBI is hunting for a ghost. The defence argued that Patel was falsely implicated and the case is based on hearsay without any conclusive evidence or material against him. Patel's advocate argued that no bribe amount was recovered from Patel, adding that mere allegations of conspiracy without actual recovery cannot justify prolonged incarceration. The prosecution had sufficient time to investigate and his further detention serves no purpose, added the defence. The defence has claimed that Patel's wife has undergone a kidney transplant and is in a fragile medical condition. They added that the continued incarceration would cause hardship to the family. Earlier this month, the court had remanded Sandeep Shah and Salim Patel to the custody of CBI for allegedly taking ₹87.5 lakh from parents by claiming to increase the NEET UG 2025 marks of the candidates to ensure their admission in medical colleges. As per the CBI, Patel introduced Shah to two officers who claimed to be officials from NTA. They are accused of receiving money through hawala channels from several NEET candidates. Patel's phone records have revealed that he had accepted ₹32 lakh in cash from one candidate and ₹75 lakh through hawala channels from three other candidates. The court has sent them to judicial custody.

Three from Vidarbha score perfect percentile in MHT CET (PCM group)
Nagpur: Three students from Vidarbha scored a perfect 100 percentile in the MHT-CET (PCM group), the results of which were declared on Monday. Apart from these three, 19 other students from the rest of Maharashtra (and other states) scored 100 percentile, as per the official statement by the State CET (Common Entrance Test) Cell. Alraza Hanif Shaikh (Gondia), Shirish Nilesh Pattewar (Yavatmal), and Chinmay Vikas Chavhan (Bhandara) are the students from Vidarbha who hit the bull's eye in the MHT-CET (PCM). Since city-wise topper names are not released officially, only information coming from coaching institutes and junior colleges is relied on. For Nagpur city, the probable toppers are Amogh Gotmare (99.82 percentile), Puneet Dhandale (99.55 percentile), and Shreyan Chaware (99.53 percentile), all students of Dr Ambedkar College. The MHT-CET 2025 (PCM Group) was conducted from April 19 to April 27. The examination was conducted at 207 centres within Maharashtra and 17 outside the state. An additional exam was also conducted on May 5 following major problems with the online exam on a specific date. Students complained that almost 20 questions displayed on the screen did not have correct options. There was a huge ruckus post the exam, and the govt was forced to take cognisance. Since the govt's findings confirmed the error, a re-exam was held only for students who appeared on that particular date. The questions were based on the syllabus of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Maharashtra. Approximately 20% weightage was given to the Class 11 curriculum, and 80% weightage was given to the Class 12 curriculum while setting the question paper. There was no negative marking; however, the difficulty level was on par with the JEE (Main) for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and the difficulty level for Biology was on par with NEET.
