Reports: Giants OF/DH Jerar Encarnacion fractures left hand
March 22 - San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion has a fractured left hand, according to multiple media reports.
Encarnacion suffered the injury during Friday's spring training game while trying to make a catch in the outfield. It was unclear Saturday how much time he will miss.
The 27-year-old was a candidate to be the team's full-time DH this season. He was having an excellent spring with two home runs and 14 RBIs -- second in the Cactus League -- to go with a .302 batting average.
The Miami Marlins signed him as an international free agent in 2015. He made his MLB debut in 2022. He played in 23 games, posting three home runs, 14 RBIs, and two stolen bases with a .182/.210/.338 batting line.
As a free agent, he signed a minor league deal with the Giants in 2024. He appeared in 35 games for the Giants, recording five home runs, 19 RBIs, and one stolen base with .248/.277/.425 batting line.

June 14 - Casey Schmitt hit his first career grand slam and the visiting San Francisco Giants earned a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday as the longtime rivals met for the first time this season. San Francisco right-hander Logan Webb (6-5) gave up two runs on two hits over seven innings as the Giants moved into a tie with the Dodgers atop the National League West. He struck out four and walked three. Tyler Rogers and Ryan Walker each followed with a hitless inning. Schmitt had made a costly ninth-inning error in the Giants' Tuesday loss to the Colorado Rockies, San Francisco's lone defeat in the past nine games. Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-5) struggled with his control, allowing five runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings with five walks and four strikeouts. Teoscar Hernandez homered and singled for Los Angeles' only two hits. The first meeting of the season between the teams during the second week of June is the latest it has happened on the schedule since 1999. The Giants got to Yamamoto early when Willy Adames hit a home run to right-center field as the second batter of the game. After a slow start to the season, Adames has three socked of his eight home runs over the past four games. The Dodgers got even in the second inning without the aid of a hit. Will Smith walked, went to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Max Muncy groundout. He scored on a shallow fly ball to right from Andy Pages, but only after Giants catcher Andrew Knizner dropped the ball after trying to apply the tag on Smith. The Giants took charge in the third. Yamamoto loaded the bases on walks to Jung Hoo Lee, Heliot Ramos and Wilmer Flores. With two outs, Schmitt hit his grand slam deep into the seats in left field on a 1-1 splitter, his second home run of the season. The Dodgers got their first hit off Webb when Hernandez singled in the fourth inning. Their only other hit was Hernandez's home run in the seventh, his 12th on the season. Belfast Giants confirm return of most successful coach for eighth season behind bench
The 41-year-old, who only five days ago saw his No.47 jersey retired by the Giants during his testimonial game, has agreed a new one-year deal covering the 2025/26 campaign to remain head coach. It is a logical move for both parties, Keefe continuing his association with the club into its 15th year as a player and coach, while the Giants have the man who has delivered ten trophies in seven seasons back leading them again. Nor was it much of a surprise, the Ontario native tipping his hand significantly by not only taking part in the Champions League draw for next season but declaring after his testimonial that he couldn't wait to get the new campaign under way, while he has repeatedly declared that it would only take a substantial offer or an unmissable opportunity for him to seek employment outside of Belfast. It is also expected that Keefe will have his three lieutenants, George Awada, Jeff Mason and Rob Stewart, alongside him for the new season as well, however that is yet to be confirmed. But Keefe is the key piece behind the bench and, although they are yet to officially announce a player for the new season, having the four-time Elite League Coach of the Year back in situ is already an excellent starting point. A born winner, Keefe has won at least one trophy in five of his seven seasons with the Giants – including the 2019/20 season that was halted prematurely due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic – including the Grand Slam in the 2022/23 campaign. The former Giants captain, who won two Elite League titles as a player, has lifted the League crown four times since taking over in 2017, as well as five Challenge Cups and one Play-Off title, while he has also taken the organisation to three further Play-Off Finals. Keefe burst onto the scene as a coach by winning the Challenge Cup in his first season in charge, defeating the Cardiff Devils in the Final at Ice Arena Wales, and then had an outstanding sophomore season in 2018/19 by missing out on the Grand Slam by one game, defeating the Guildford Flames in the Cup Final and famously winning the League while celebrating their end-of-season awards dinner, only to lose to the Devils in the Play-Off Final. Since the pandemic, the Giants have dominated the Elite League under Keefe by winning seven of the 12 trophies on offer, once again missing out on the Grand Slam by a game in 2022 after losing the Play-Off Final to the Devils having already done the League and Cup double again, before finally completing the clean sweep a season later, this time defeating the Devils in the final game of the season to add to another League and Cup success. After watching the Sheffield Steelers do the same two seasons ago, the Giants returned to their perch last season with a phenomenal League win that went down to the final game of the season, added to their Cup joy against the Devils back in March, although the Welsh side would have the last laugh by winning their Play-Off Semi-Final this time around. Keefe will also lead the Giants in the Champions League for the fourth time this season, their reward for winning the League title, with the organisation determined to be involved in the Play-Offs having missed out on the knockouts by a point two years ago.

Patrick Reed makes fourth albatross in U.S. Open history
June 12 - OAKMONT, Pa. -- With two swings on a 621-yard hole, Patrick Reed leapt into contention at Oakmont Country Club by making the fourth albatross in U.S. Open recorded history. At the par-5 fourth hole, Reed's drive settled on the left side of the fairway, next to Oakmont's famed "church pews" bunker and 286 yards from the hole. Reed hit a fairway wood toward the green. The shot landed in the putting surface, took three hops and settled onto its path, veering slightly left. His ball entered the left side of the cup and settled into the hole behind the pin. Reed, 34, did not know initially that he holed the shot. He motioned to a spotter to ask if the shot had gone in, then raised two fingers. It was the first albatross at a U.S. Open since Nick Watney in 2012. The USGA has tracked the 3-under-par shots since 1983. The shot boosted Reed from 1 over to 2 under par early in his round. J.J. Spaun held the clubhouse lead Thursday afternoon with a bogey-free, 4-under 66. Reed is best known for winning the 2018 Masters.
