Siemens Energy may see up to $180 million in outflows after MSCI exit

Economic Times16 hours ago

Siemens Energy India, which debuted on the Indian stock exchanges on Thursday, could see passive outflows of up to $180 million as it exits the MSCI Global Standard Index just a day after listing, according to estimates by Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research.
ADVERTISEMENT Global index provider MSCI will delete Siemens Energy India from its Global Standard Index (Large Cap segment), effective post-market close on June 20. The exit, Nuvama notes, could trigger 'estimated passive outflow in the range of USD 170–180 million,' although the brokerage added that a more accurate estimate would be available once the stock begins trading.
'If stock trades at lower circuit then implementation will get postponed,' Nuvama had said.
Siemens Energy India began trading on Thursday, June 19, after being spun off from Siemens Ltd earlier this year. The stock was listed at Rs 2,850 and quickly hit the 5% upper circuit at Rs 2,992.45 on the BSE, bolstered by investor optimism around the company's role in India's expanding power transmission and distribution (T&D) sector. The shares are currently part of the 'T' Group—meaning they will be settled on a trade-for-trade basis for the first ten trading sessions, limiting intraday speculation.
ADVERTISEMENT While MSCI exclusion is expected to lead to sizable passive outflows, Siemens Energy's removal from domestic indices such as the NSE and BSE early next week is likely to be more muted. 'The outflows here are expected to be minimal due to its negligible weight and passive tracking will be lower,' Nuvama said, adding that more clarity would follow the first day of trade. The brokerage is also monitoring how FTSE will respond post-listing.Despite the risk of outflows, brokerages remain bullish on Siemens Energy's long-term prospects.
ADVERTISEMENT Jefferies estimates nearly 30% upside potential with a target price of Rs 3,700, calling it 'India's largest listed pure-play power T&D equipment player at $10 billion+ market cap.' The brokerage forecasts a 40% EPS CAGR over FY24-27E, citing a strong T&D pipeline and operating leverage.Motilal Oswal resumed coverage with a target of Rs 3,000 and a 'Buy' rating, projecting a 25%/31% CAGR in revenue and PAT over FY25-27 and an EBITDA margin expansion to 21.4% by FY27. 'Margins have already started expanding in 5MFY25,' the brokerage noted.
ADVERTISEMENT HDFC Securities echoed the optimistic outlook, citing Siemens Energy's diversified offerings in power generation, green hydrogen, and grid automation, as well as exclusive rights in South Asia. It sees a 30% PAT CAGR supported by robust cash flows and innovative technologies.Siemens Energy India was demerged from Siemens Ltd in April 2025. The newly listed company focuses on transmission, distribution, and small- to mid-sized turbines. Its offerings range from 250 MW industrial turbines to 800 MW utility-scale generators, and includes power transformers up to 765 kV and EPC services.
ADVERTISEMENT The firm is expected to benefit from India's planned Rs 3 trillion transmission investments through FY30, especially in high-voltage (400 kV and 765 kV) segments. Capex plans include Rs 4.6 billion for doubling transformer capacity, Rs 3.3 billion for GIS units in Goa, and Rs 0.6 billion for vacuum interrupters—some of which will cater to export markets.

EU price caps on Russian oil will not effect its supply volume: Russian Dy PM

St Petersburg, Jun 19 (UNI) Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on Thursday said that Europe's price caps on Russian oil will have no effect on its volumes of supply, adding that even the zero level of price ceiling will not affect them. Speaking to Business FM on the sidelines of SPIEF (St Petersburg International Economic Forum) 2025, Novak said "I assume that the introduction of the USD 60 ceiling had no influence. This means that even if zero (price ceiling) is introduced it will have no influence," reports Russian state media TASS. Currently, the G7 and EU countries (the price cap coalition) have banned imports of Russian crude oil and oil products, but allowed shipowners from their countries to transport them and provide brokerage and other services if the commodity is sold at a price that is no higher than the cap set by the coalition. The objective of the embargo and price cap is to limit Russian budget revenues from the sale of energy resources while maintaining a sufficient supply of crude and oil products on the world market. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed on June 10 that the EC's proposal calls for the reduction of the price cap for Russian oil to USD 45 per barrel as part of the 18th package of sanctions against the country. However, Novak noted that it is not profitable for the European Union itself to lower the price ceiling to USD 45 per barrel. 'Now we supply more to our friendly jurisdictions than previously, though it is not related to the price ceiling, but to sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU, by the US, other unfriendly countries. I even think that it is not profitable for the European Union to lower prices, say, to $45," he explained. Novak added that none of the price ceilings implemented in the last few years have had any effect on Russian oil export.

"Shouldn't worry, all our assets abroad are safe": Pranav Adani amid Israel-Iran tensions

By Vishu Adhana New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Amid ongoing conflict in West Asia, Adani Enterprises Director Pranav Adani on Wednesday assured that the group's overseas assets remain secure. 'There are concerns, but luckily, all our assets abroad are safe. We shouldn't worry about it,' he told reporters on the sidelines of the Chintan Research Foundation's foundation day event. His remarks came as markets react to the worsening geopolitical situation in the Middle East. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone fell for the seventh straight session, slipping 2.5% to Rs 1,338. Among the key concerns is the Haifa Port in northern Israel, which the Adani Group acquired in early 2023. The strategic facility, a crucial Indian commercial asset in the region, is operating under the shadow of regional conflict, particularly amid fears of escalation between Israel and Iran. Speaking at ANI, Pranav Adani also outlined the vision of the Chintan Research Foundation, which he said will focus on 'climate change, geopolitical issues and economic entry' as its initial areas of research. 'Evidence-based research has many responsibilities. These three pillars will be our starting point,' he said. He emphasised the need to focus on India's heartland. 'India is not only Delhi or the capital cities. The real India lives in Ranchi, Raipur, Bhubaneswar and the Northeast... That's where inclusive growth should be centred,' he said. CRF President Shishir Priyadarshi said the foundation aims to tackle hard truths and propose solutions with a focus on zero-emission goals, inclusive prosperity, and the Global South's emergence. 'The most challenging thoughts lead to the most rewarding destinations,' he said. (ANI)
