Maycee Barber Releases Statement After Withdrawal From UFC Vegas 107
The fight at UFC Vegas 107 was to be Barber's first since she defeated Katlyn Cerminara in March 2024.
During the prelim portion of the event, UFC commentator Megan Olivi reported on the medical issues that had kept Barber out of the Octagon since her win over Cerminara.
"A myriad of very serious health issues have plagued the UFC flyweight," Olivi said. "In fact, it resulted in an 11-day hospitalization. She had over a dozen rounds of IV antibiotics, and she was diagnosed with things like Epstein-Barr [Syndrome]
"They brought in a Colorado infectious disease specialist to see if they could diagnose and treat whatever was going on with her, and still, to this day, Barber doesn't really have any answers.
"However, they were able to find a combination of medicine to help control all the things that were happening inside here., to help her feel better and to get back to training and competing. But yesterday, it was obvious. The time away, paired with all those health issues, really resulted in difficulty in making weight."
Olivi then related that she had spoken to Blanchfield after Barber weighed in a half-pound heavy for the 135-pound bout. During that conversation, Blanchfield told Olivi she was concerned that Barber would not be able to make the walk to the Octagon for the fight. Ultimately, Blanchfield's fears became a reality.
'I feel like I'm still in pretty much disbelief right now,' Blanchfield said at the UFC Vegas 107 post-fight press conference. "I feel like I was in disbelief yesterday when she missed weight because we knew about this fight since January. You could've been 50 pounds overweight and still missed weight. So she missed weight, then she gets to Saturday. She gets to the locker room. I'm fully ready to go. She's supposed to be ready to go. Supposedly now she has all these health issues right when we're supposed to fight. I think it's pretty crazy. I think it's pretty unprofessional. I wouldn't want to fight her again."
"I don't know, she needs to look at another division," Blanchfield continued. "She needs to fix her life. She just needs to fix herself. I think she's a complete mess in every aspect of her entire life."
"Not what I had planned for a Sunday post," Barber posted on Instagram. "Thank you to everyone for the prayers & support I owe an apology to @ufc @mickmaynard2 @danawhite @seanshelby & @blanchfield_mma ** PS my life is not messy this is just a bad hand. We will get to the bottom of it all and be back 🤍"

Barber's post included video of her being taken out of the UFC Apex on a stretcher.
Blanchfield's management team reported that she will be paid her full show and win money for UFC Vegas 107. There has been no reporting on if Barber will receive any of her purse for Saturday's fight card.
UFC women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko was on hand for the card because the fight could have determined her next opponent. Blanchfield is ranked No. 4 in the official UFC women's flyweight rankings, while Barber checks in at No. 5.

Who will be USMNT's rising star ahead of World Cup?
Yahoo Sports contributors Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros highlight Malik Tillman and Diego Luna as USMNT rising stars to keep an eye on ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Hear the full conversation on the 'The Cooligans' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The World Cup is around the corner, obviously, right? Look, it's a little too soon, but maybe we should talk about the next rising star for the men's national team. I mean, look, the first name, especially now, where there's going to be a lot of expectations, and the players are in different situations this year leading into the World Cup, the players are in different situations in their own club careers. So, Malik Tillman is, I think, the one who's probably fighting for a starting spot in this World Cup squad, because I think some would say he maybe has one already, possibly. I think the last couple years, we were thinking about you know, MMA, right? Weston McKenny, Eunice Moussa, and Tyler Adams. That's what a midfield lock that seems like that would be the one leading into the World Cup. So maybe two to three years ago, that's kind of how we felt we had that strong midfield. And now especially with Eunus Moussa, where he is in his club career, and even Weston McKenny, just not being played in multiple positions. I still think he is probably starting to, yeah, but even though there's a little bit of shakiness with those players' individual club careers, I think this is an opportunity for Malik Tillman, who now is the number 10 at Bayer Leverkusen. There is going to be a huge responsibility, especially after, you know, he's going to be playing under Eric Ten Hag after Xabi Alonso leaves, who was nothing but incredibly successful with having the invincible year. I think there's going to be a lot asked of him. I think that in turn will lead to a bigger responsibility with the US men's national team. And for me, I'm going to say Diego Luna, mainly because of how well he played during the Gold Cup. The manager, seemingly Mauricio Pochettino, seemingly trusts that at the very least he's going to give it his all. And whether it's making a run or tracking back a bit more aggressively, you know, someone who we kept saying had that dog in him, you know what I mean? And he was a dog, and he was willing to fight. And he was willing to give it all, and he broke his nose. You know what I mean, he's willing to do whatever it takes. He seems like someone that I think Mauricio Patino trusts. Close

Miami Dolphins Stock Up/Stock Down: Patrick Paul flattens Josh Hines-Allen
MIAMI GARDENS ― The Miami Dolphins wrapped up training camp with a solid joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, Aug. 21. The two teams will conclude their preseasons at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night, Aug. 23. Miami Dolphins training camp stock up/stock down Stock Up LT Patrick Paul ― Patrick continues to excel and to do so against notable pass rushers. On this day, he held his own against the Jaguars' Josh Hines-Allen, even throwing him down to the ground in one 1-on-1 drill. S Minkah Fitzpatrick ― Minkah had yet another training camp interception. He has stood out since returning and fills a big void in the wake of Jevon Holland's departure. The best part? Fitzpatrick isn't just a talented player. He's a player youngsters can model. Stock Down G Jonah Savaiinaea ― We don't mean to pile onto a rookie guard. But he had his hands full at times on Thursday. He will continue to work hard and surely will continue to improve. Just don't expect dominance and consistency immediately. RB Jaylen Wright ― We are hoping Wright's apparent lower-body injury is not too serious. But he did leave the field with trainers. The Dolphins' running back situation is concerning at the moment, with Alexander Mattison already down for the season. Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars joint practice recap: Jaylen Wright injury? FACT FOCUS: A look at RFK Jr.'s misleading claims on US dietary guidelines and Froot Loops
The food pyramid that once guided Americans' diets has been retired for more than a decade, but that has not stopped President Donald Trump's health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., from regularly criticizing the concept. He often highlights the pyramid, misrepresenting dietary standards and criticizing health initiatives of the Biden administration. Such claims were featured in a video aired Tuesday, before his appearance on Fox News' 'Jesse Watters Primetime.' Here's a closer look at the facts. KENNEDY: 'The dietary guidelines that we inherited from the Biden administration were 453 pages long. They were driven by the same commercial impulses that put Froot Loops at the top of the food pyramid." THE FACTS: The original food pyramid did not mention any specific products. But at the very top, it recommended that oils, fats and sugar be consumed 'sparingly.' Grains such as bread, cereal, rice and pasta were on the bottom tier, where six to 11 portions a day were recommended. The current dietary guidelines are 164 pages long, not 453. They were released in December 2020 during Trump's first term, along with a four-page executive summary. A scientific report used to develop the dietary guidelines is published every five years by an advisory committee. The latest report, released in December by the Biden administration, is 421 pages long. Trump's first administration released an 835-page scientific report in July 2020 that informed the current guidelines. 'The dietary guidelines include several documents, including a scientific report which summarizes the scientific evidence supporting the dietary guidelines,' said Laura Bellows, an associate professor of nutritional sciences at Cornell University. 'It can be long due to the comprehensive nature of the document. That said, these findings are distilled down into concise guidelines that are foundational to the creation of consumer information and educational materials.' Experts said that Froot Loops, a breakfast cereal, would have fallen into multiple categories under the pyramid concept, offering vague guidance to consumers. 'It's a bit trickier than just one grouping,' Bellows said in an email. She said Froot Loops 'would fall more in foods that we should 'moderate' ... but does contribute to the grain group.' The cereal is high in sugar, she added, but does have fiber and other key nutrients. The Agriculture Department introduced an updated pyramid guide in 2005 that incorporated new nutritional standards. It retired the pyramid idea altogether in 2011 and now uses the MyPlate concept, which stresses eating a healthy balance of different foods based on factors such as age and sex. MyPlate recommends making half of the grains one eats in a day whole grains and cutting back on added sugars. Similar to the food pyramid, this puts Froot Loops, which has whole grains and added sugars, in both categories. 'MyPlate, not the Food Pyramid, has been the visual graphic for the US Dietary Guidelines since 2011,' said Bellows. 'So, referring to the 'top of the pyramid' is a dated reference.' Kennedy's other criticism of Froot Loops has focused primarily on its manufacturer's use of artificial dyes to enhance its color. He has made getting rid of artificial colors in foods an important part of his 'Make America Healthy Again' plan. Asked for comment on Kennedy's remarks, the Health and Human Services Department said work is on track to release the final 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The agency said Kennedy is committed to ensuring those guidelines 'are grounded in gold-standard science and reflect a clear focus on healthy, whole, and nutritious foods.' ___ Find AP Fact Checks here:
