Demolition of Aberdeen Raac homes set to go ahead

Yahoo2 days ago
Aberdeen City Council is set to push ahead with its plan to demolish dozens of homes found to have potentially dangerous concrete.
It had paused its proposal to knock down the majority of about 500 homes in the Balnagask area to allow residents to explore options for the future of their homes.
One option, which involves replacing roofs, has had no uptake.
Thirty-one people have accepted offers to buy their privately-owned homes, while others are still considering their valuations.
Most of the affected properties are council-owned.

A new Aberdeen City Council report said out of the 138 private owners - 28 had not yet engaged with the local authority.
It said 76 people had asked for a valuation of their home and 70 had received offers, with two rejections so far.
The report said 34 residents were still considering the offer they had received, or have the option of swapping their home for a council property.
The purchasing process, known as a voluntary acquisition, could be extended to January next year due to the level of interest.
Councillors meeting next Tuesday will be asked to agree to the resumption of planning and preparation for demolition.
One resident John Meiklejohn told BBC Scotland News he was not considering voluntary acquisition.
He described the value he had received for his property as "unfair", and is considering potential legal action against the council.
Mr Meiklejohn said: "The value they were giving was deducting the cost of replacing Raac in the properties."
He claimed some residents would be left thousands of pounds worse off if they accepted their offer.
Aberdeen City Council has been approached for comment.

Alexander Isak bid CLOSE as Liverpool drop transfer hint

Newcastle forward - and documented Liverpool target – Alexander Isak issued a controversial statement on Tuesday night. Rather than attend the PFA awards ceremony, Isak decided to send a message to his employers. Citing a lack of trust and broken relationships, the 25-year-old declared it time to move on. 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! For his part, the Sweden international has eyes only for Anfield and is determined to force his way to the Premier League champions this summer. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Liverpool have long held Isak as their first choice for a new No9. Darwin Nunez did not quite cut it last season and has been moved on to Al-Hilal. Liverpool won't move for another striker Hugo Ekitike has also been brought to the club but is seen by Arne Slot as a versatile option who can also play from the left. Liverpool definitely require another forward; the departures of Ben Doak, Luis Diaz and the aforementioned Nunez have left the Merseysiders a little light in attack. And right now we can assume that Liverpool WILL be back for Isak. Despite looking a player short up top, Liverpool have not panicked into moving for another target. The mantra around Anfield under FSG has always been that it's better to sign no player than the wrong player. And with the move for Isak in stasis, Liverpool are sticking to their guns. One more bid before window closes? According to a report in the Athletic, Liverpool WILL come back with another bid before the window closes. Clearly there is a lot that needs to happen before Isak ends up as a Liverpool player but there is no reason to believe that the Reds will look elsewhere at this stage. LFC remain keen 'Newcastle's rapid rejection of that £110million offer at the start of this month left Liverpool feeling that submitting an improved second bid would be futile,' the report reads. 'However, the Premier League champions haven't pursued an alternative target in the near three weeks since and remain keen to secure Isak's services if Newcastle's stance changes. 'They have the funds to break the British transfer record to get Isak. They have embarked on the biggest spending spree in their history this summer, with around £320million, including add-ons, committed to new signings, but have also generated up to £220m from player sales.' © IMAGO

Newcastle break Alexander Isak agreement

At this point the Alexander Isak saga has rumbled on for far too long. But it's not about to end. Both Liverpool and the Swede international will not give up on their desire. Newcastle may yet change their stance, however, they need to get a lot done before that. 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! One thing is clear if Isak stays, there is no easy way back for him to the Magpies. Ultimately, he will leave the club. Whether it's before September 1st, January or next summer. This is a player who doesn't see his long-term future in Tyneside and who has every right to be extremely upset with the club at the way they have handled things this summer. Isak may go on to play more games for Newcastle. But let's make no mistakes about it, this will not be a fully committed Isak. It's not going to be the same player that Newcastle will have on their hands as the one from before. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range As Liverpool fans we know what happens. We know how this ends and it always ends up badly. For Newcastle the situation is even worse. In Isak's statement released on Instagram, he made it clear that he felt the club had made broken promises to him. This according to him means that the relationship cannot continue. He clearly feels betrayed and lied to. One of those promises made by Newcastle was the fact that he could leave the club. Now the Daily Mail has reported that this was not the only promise broken by the Magpies. According to them, a well placed source not connected to either club has claimed that Isak's fury also comes from the fact that he believed Newcastle had agreed that they would sell him if a bid in excess of £100m was made for his services. Liverpool did exactly that with their £110m offer, which was promptly rejected. Now if this report is true you can understand Isak's frustration. Newcastle were clearly ready to let him go according to his understand. But they've gone back on this promise. They've outright rejected a bid they supposedly said they would agree to. With the relationship at such a boiling point, it's hard to foresee just how this situation is moved on from here. Right now it's impossible to predict. It's hard to see a way back for Isak. It's hard to see Liverpool give up on their pursuit of the Swede international. So even if the saga ends with Newcastle staying firm in their stance by the end of the window, it won't entirely be over. The discussions will return in January.

Olivia Smith Admits Meeting Marta At 2015 World Cup Changed Her Life

The day she lost her position as the world's most expensive female player, Olivia Smith - the first to move for a million pounds - admits she never worried about her price. This week, Smith collected the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) award for the best Young Player of the Year last season. Her eye-catching performances for Liverpool earned her the illustrious accolade and in doing so, she became the first foreign woman to ever be voted in by her fellow professionals. Smith had already made the move last month from Liverpool to Arsenal with the new European club champions paying a transfer fee of $1.36 million (£1 million). She therefore became the first woman in the English game to move for over a million British pounds. Earlier today, Orlando Pride broke that record by signing Jacqueline Ovalle from Tigres in Mexico for a reported $1.5 million. Smith had held the position for a mere 35 days but there will be never be another first within the English game. The transfer in January of the United States defender Naomi Girma made her the first million dollar player but amounted to less in sterling. The one million pound threshold was first crossed in the men's game 46 years ago when Trevor Francis moved from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest. That move came 25 years before Smith was even born but she is all too aware of the significance of his name. 'At the end of the day, a price tag is a price tag, she said when questioned about her seven-figure valuation. "It's not something I'm really focused on. I'm just focused on being on the pitch, learning from a great set of players. I think it's also great to see the development of women's football and that price going up as well. Obviously, it's an honor to have achieved that.' 'To come with such a hefty price tag, for such a young player like me, I think they see the potential that I have. They see, like my mum said, I'm hungry, I'm driven, I want to learn, I want to grow and I want to win things ultimately. The money is not really a big deal for me.' Smith will be moving club for the third year in succession having joined Liverpool from Sporting CP in Lisbon the previous summer. A young woman living on another contintent, she concedes that relocating constantly is 'not comfortable, but you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.' 'It's been quite tough for me personally, not knowing what's going to come next. My first year in Europe, I never expected to leave Sporting after one season. It's not easy, especially when my family is so far away, but it does make transitions easier, building relationships with people here.' At Arsenal she will at least link up with one old acquaintance, the United States international Jenna Nighswonger. Their paths briefly crossed at Florida State University before Smith opted to go to Penn State. 'I didn't stay there long,' she admits, 'but she was my mentor for about two or three months when I first arrived there.' Some will question where Smith will fit into the Arsenal line-up where she is competing for a starting position against three Ballon D'Or nominees - Alessia Russo, Mariona Caldentey and Chloe Kelly - as well as the scorer of the winning goal in the UEFA Women's Champions League final, Stina Blackstenius, the Player of the Tournament at the last UEFA Women's Euro. Beth Mead, and Australian Caitlin Foord. Smith is however is relishing the challenge. 'The biggest thing is that I'm very versatile. I spoke to (coach) Renée Slegers about this. I just want to be out on the pitch but at the same time, I'm competing with the best players in the world so we're just pushing each other to be better every day and I'm learning from them as well to add to my game. At the end of the day, it's up to Renée based on performance but I'm working hard, giving it 100% - yeah still learning and growing.' Smith was ten years of age when Canada hosted the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. Inspiring girls like Smith was behind the 'To A Greater Goal' slogan of the tournament. Growing up in Whitby, Ontario, close to Toronto, the nearest host city to her was almost 350km away in Ottawa. She told me that did not stop her watching some of the games in person. She joked 'it kind of sucked that it wasn't in Toronto but my family and I actually made the trips to go and watch games and I think that was really special for me. I actually remember attending the Brazil game that was in Montréal. As a lot of people probably know, Marta is also one of my biggest idols that I modelled my game after.' 'It's pretty special watching that World Cup, and I think that was also a turning point in my career realistically. I had actually gotten the chance to speak to Marta and she gave me a lot of insight on what it's like growing up not having women's football idols, because she didn't have one. I think it's so special now for the girls to look up to people like us doing what we do.'
