Uniphar flags profit growth for first half of the year
In a trading update for the first half of the year, Uniphar said its Pharma division delivered double-digit organic gross profit growth. The group operates four major Irish pharmacy chains: Life, Allcare, Hickey's and McCauley as well as major divisions that service the wholesale sector and pharmaceutical and medical technology arms here and internationally. Commenting on the first half of trade, Uniphar Group CEO Ger Rabbette said the business is confident of reaching a €200m EBITDA target by 2028, with at least 80pc of growth being organic. 'Uniphar has had a strong first half, achieving significant organic gross profit growth. We expect to continue this progress into the second half and meet our growth objectives for each of our three divisions for the full year,' he said. In terms of the outlook for the rest of the year, Uniphar said it entered the second half of this year with strong trading momentum and that declining interest rates favourably impacting finance costs will be a tailwind to current year expectations. The group said it is managing an active pipeline of acquisition opportunities. Net Bank Debt/EBITDA was 1.9x at the end of June 2025. A €35m share buyback programme was completed during the first half of the year. Shares in Uniphar rose on Tuesday, to reach £3.36 each in London, not far off its high for the year of £3.46 a share, seen in June. The shares trade in London's AIM and Dublin's Euronext and the business has a market capitalisation of just under €1bn. The unaudited half year update will be followed up with publication of interim results for the six months ended 30 June 2025 on September 2nd. Uniphar is among a list of home grown Irish multinational companies that Enterprise Minister Peter Burke has held meetings with in recent weeks as he looks to asses else is happening in a rage of sectors impacted by the Trump administration's tariff policy and the impact on the US economy and other markets.

CRH to buy US cement substitute provider Eco Material for $2.1bn
CRH has agreed to buy a US provider of sustainable cement alternatives to the construction market, Eco Material Technologies, for $2.1 billion (€1.8 billion) as the group advances plans to lower its carbon footprint . It marks the largest deal struck by the Irish-based building materials and services giant since late 2023. Eco Material, headquartered in Utah, has developed technologies to utilise materials like fly ash, a byproduct of coal combustion, to partly replace cement used in the construction sector. The company works with leading US electricity utilities to process and recycle approximately seven million tonnes of fly ash and three million tonnes of synthetic gypsum, another so-called 'supplementary cementitious material' (SCM), with significant additional capacity currently under construction, CRH said in a statement. READ MORE 'This strategic acquisition further positions CRH as a leading cementitious player in North America with both cement and SCM capabilities,' said Jim Mintern , chief executive of CRH. 'As we continue to modernise North America's infrastructure, this transaction secures the long-term supply of critical materials for future growth and puts CRH at the forefront of the transition to next generation cement and concrete. With more than 1,100 Eco Material employees joining the CRH team, our combined operations create a more connected business to better serve our customers.' The proposed transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions and is expected to close in 2025. CRH plans to fund the transaction with cash on hand and does not expect any change in its credit ratings. Goodbody Stockbrokers analyst Shane Carberry said the deal helps CRH secure a long-term supply of critical materials and strengthens its position as a leading cementitious player in North America. 'Overall, we see this as a shrewd acquisition from CRH,' he said. 'Upon completion, the deal will make CRH the market leader in SCMs, significantly expanding its cementitious capacity as well as bolstering its national distribution network.'

Ring begin search for Irish person to become voice of iconic video doorbell
Ring is in the hunt to find the first ever Irish voice of its Ring Video Doorbell. The smart home security company is launching a Voice of the Nation casting call across Ireland, kicking off in Cork in August. Ring will hold auditions across the country to find one lucky Irish person who will record a set of audio messages called Quick Replies, that will be available across all Ring Video Doorbells in Ireland early next year. Ring's Quick Replies act as an answering machine for your front door. Once activated in the Ring app, a visitor that rings the doorbell will hear a pre-selected greeting with the option to leave a message. Ring's Voice of the Nation, supported by radio presenter Carl Mullan, launches as new Ring research of 1,000 adults in Ireland reveals how beloved the Irish accent is across the country. More than half (55 per cent) of people in Ireland say they love their accent and wouldn't change it to anything else. People in Ireland can audition to become the Voice of the Nation in a number of ways, including in-person auditions in Cork, Galway and Dublin during August. Auditions are also open online – people can simply share a video of themselves saying a Ring Doorbell Quick Reply: 'We can't answer the door right now, but if you'd like to leave a message, you can do it now.' Auditions in Irish are also welcomed by saying the following phrase: 'Dia dhuit! Ní féidir linn an doras a oscailt faoi láthair, ach más mian leat teachtaireacht ghearr a fhágáil is féidir leat é sin a dhéanamh anois.' and post it on TikTok or Instagram, or share through their Ring device and Ring app. To enter, audition hopefuls need to tag Ring in their content and use #RingsVoiceoftheNation. The search for the Voice of the Nation in Ireland will be judged by a panel, including radio and TV broadcaster Carl Mullan, who will help select Ireland's voice. The search for the Voice of the Nation in Ireland will be judged by a panel Ring's Voice of the Nation Ireland pop-up auditions will visit: Mahon Point Shopping Centre (Cork), Saturday 2 August 10am – 7pm and Sunday 3 August 11am – 6pm (Lower Mall, beside Zara) Eyre Square Centre (Galway), Saturday 9 August 10am – 7pm and Sunday 10 August 11am – 6:30pm (Level 1, beside Penneys) Liffey Valley Shopping Centre (Dublin), Saturday 16 August 10am – 7pm and Sunday 17 August 11am – 7pm (Beside Penneys) It's the first time an Irish accent will be heard on Ring Video Doorbells, with Ring's research finding Cork (12 per cent) and Dublin (11 per cent) were the accents Irish people would most like to hear on smart devices. A quarter of Dubliners (24 per cent) would also prefer a Dublin accent on smart devices. Auditions will officially open from Saturday 2 August Carl Mullan said: 'The Irish accent is renowned all over the world and I'm buzzing to launch Ring's Irish Voice of the Nation to bring our lovely accent to devices across the country. There's something enchanting and melodic about our accents and I can't wait to hear what the people of Ireland come up with for their auditions.' Auditions will officially open from Saturday 2 August at 10am. Members of the public can share a video of their recorded audition on TikTok or Instagram by posting their clip with #RingsVoiceoftheNation and tagging @Ring alongside #RingsVoiceoftheNation.
