Last Updated: Colombo, Jul 27 (PTI) Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a three-day official visit to the Maldives to enhance cooperation between the two island nations, the foreign ministry here has announced. The visit from July 28-30 will be at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, the ministry said in a statement on Friday. The two presidents will hold bilateral talks to exchange several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The visit aims to boost cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in mutually beneficial areas, according to the ministry. This will be the first visit to the Maldives by Dissanayake since being elected president in September last year. His first visit was to India and was followed by visits to China and the UAE. The visit marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. According to Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, one of the MoUs will allow Maldivian citizens to obtain visit visas valid for up to one year. He said a substantial number of Maldivians visit Sri Lanka for health tourism. Sri Lanka has been granting free tourist visas to Maldivians since 2023. Hubballi: Sigandur, home to the state's longest bridge inaugurated recently, is fast becoming a favourite getaway for North Karnataka travellers. With people thronging the spot in private vehicles and group tours, travel agencies are adding Sigandur to their itineraries. Seeing the growing interest, NWKRTC has also started package tours from various locations to the destination. Priyanga M, managing director, NWKRTC, Hubballi, told TOI that this time they have introduced more tourist packages to Sigandur, Gokak, Amboli, Banavasi, Dandeli, apart from Jog Falls. "Responding to the tourists' demand, we have introduced package tours to Sigandur from Hubballi, Dharwad, Haveri, Ranebennur, Bagalkot, Gadag, and Sirsi. If passengers wish to book a casual contract bus, we are providing it at a special discount," she stated. It can be mentioned here that Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple was made accessible to lakhs of devotees and the public by dedicating the 2.2 km long Kalasavalli-Ambargodlu bridge over Sharavathi backwaters in Shivamogga district, on July 14. Starting in in November, residents and tourists will be able to enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the river as the city prepares to launch its first cruise service. Officials confirmed that the preparations are nearly complete, and the service will begin along an 8-kilometre stretch from Sonia Vihar to new project is part of the Delhi government's efforts to clean and beautify the Yamuna and promote ecotourism. The cruise will run between the Wazirabad barrage near Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, close to the Shani temple. This stretch has been specifically designed for cruise operations. The calm flow of the river in this section and the improved water quality have made the area ideal for bring this project to life, five government agencies have come together and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). These include the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. All these departments will work together to manage operations, maintain safety, and ensure a smooth and scenic experience for say that this cruise will not only offer a new leisure option for Delhiites but also encourage people to appreciate the Yamuna River in a new light.
