MLHU to close Strathroy office, will maintain dental, vaccine clinics
A new dental clinic for low-income seniors and children under the age of 17 opened in Strathroy, Ont. in June 2023. (Amandalina Letterio/CTV News London) The Strathroy location of the Middlesex-London Health Unit is closing. According to a statement, the move is being made, "In an effort to reduce operating costs." While the main office is closing, the health unit said it still wants to maintain services so the dental clinic will stay within the same retail mall in the Shops at Syndenham, as well as some vaccine clinics. 'The current physical space is under-utilized by both staff and clients,' said Dr. Alex Summers, the public health unit's medical officer of health, 'but the services we provide there are important to residents. Following an evaluation, we've decided to close the physical space and instead offer the current services differently with a minimum of disruption to the community.' According to the health unit, there will be minor reconfigurations of the dental clinic will allow it to host monthly vaccine and sexual health clinics — mobile clinics will also be explored. The dental clinic in Strathroy opened its doors in June 2023. The closure of the main location will go into effect Oct. 31.
