Diamondbacks beat Athletics 7-2 to end six-game losing streak
Zac Gallen (8-12) allowed two runs on nine hits in six innings. Andrew Saalfrank, Kendall Graveman and Kevin Ginkel each pitched a scoreless inning to close it out.
Marte hit his 21st home run of the season — a solo shot off J.T. Ginn (2-3) in the first — to give the Diamondbacks the early lead.
Nick Kurtz had a one-out single in the third off Gallen and Shea Langeliers and Tyler Soderstrom had back-to-back two-out doubles to give the Athletics a 2-1 lead.
Thomas and Blaze Alexander had singles leading off the fifth to put runners on the corners. Carroll walked to load the bases for Marte, who tied it 2-2 with a groundout. Geraldo Perdomo walked to reload the bases and Gurriel drilled a two-run single for a 4-2 lead.
Thomas hit a solo homer off Justin Sterner in the sixth and Adrian Del Castillo had a sacrifice fly in the seventh for a 6-2 advantage. Carroll capped the scoring in the ninth with his 22nd homer.
Ginn allowed four runs on four hits and five walks in four innings. With the loss, the A's three-game win streak ended.
Arizona won for the second time in 11 games.

Lynx acquire DiJonai Carrington from Wings for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson, second-round pick
The Minnesota Lynx acquired guard DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings, the teams announced on Sunday. Going to Dallas in exchange are forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson and the Lynx's 2027 second-round draft pick. Minnesota already had the WNBA's best record by a rather significant margin at 24-5, six games ahead of the reigning champion New York Liberty. Now, the Lynx have bolstered their defense by adding Carrington. The five-year veteran was named to the All-Defensive first team last season, in addition to winning the league's Most Improved Player award. This season with the Wings, Carrington averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 20 games. She was Dallas' third-leading scorer behind Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale. If she maintains that production, Carrington will be Minnesota's fourth-leading scorer and rebounder. Carrington, 27, was in her first season with Dallas after playing four years with the Connecticut Sun, who drafted her in the second round of the 2021 WNBA Draft. Last year, she averaged 12.7 points and five rebounds per game on her way to winning Most Improved Player honors while the Sun finished with the WNBA's second-best record at 28-12 before losing the Lynx in the playoff semifinals. Patriots draft bust makes highlight reel catch at Chiefs practice
Former New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton is making an impact in training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs. Fans have been buzzing about his incredible corner end zone reception on a throw from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at a recent practice. Mahomes threw a perfect corner pass behind the defender, and Thornton went up to get the ball, while also making sure to tap both toes inbounds before falling out. The Patriots selected Thornton in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. He had a disappointing run with the team and was ultimately released last November.
