Todd Haley details Bill Parcells asking Dan Campbell to start practice fight
Todd Haley learned a lot from Bill Parcells during his time on the legendary coach's staff with the Dallas Cowboys. One of the key lessons came to him at a practice during which current Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell started a fight.
Haley recalled Dallas' practice, which was ahead of a key game against the New York Giants, was not going well. Parcells was "getting heated" on the sidelines because of the Cowboys' effort.
"He was not happy with the way anything was going," Haley told Kevin Clark on his "This is Football" podcast. "There was no energy."
Haley witnessed Parcells call over Campbell – who was then a tight end for the Cowboys – and deliver a message. Campbell ran back to the huddle while Parcells sidled up to Haley, arms crossed.
"Watch this, Todd," Parcells said, according to Haley.
NFL RANKINGS: Which of league's 32 teams will be most fun in 2025?
After the next play, a fight ensued. Campbell "was in the middle of it," at Parcells' request.
"As coaches, you gotta do whatever you have to do to get things going in the right direction," Haley explained of the maneuver. "[Parcells] knew that Dan was his man to get in there and stir it up."
Haley also detailed that the skirmish achieved Parcells' ultimate goal.
"All of a sudden, practice – everybody's hooping and hollering, excited," Haley said. "And good things happen from there."
Campbell has brought that same energy and feistiness to the Lions as their coach. He has a 39-28-1 record across four seasons in charge of the team, leading Detroit to an NFC championship game appearance during the 2023 NFL playoffs and the NFC's No. 1 overall seed in 2024.

Ohio State football 5-star commit stars in Adidas commercial
You never would have seen this a few years ago, but now it is becoming commonplace. As a five-star prospect, Chris Henry Jr. is one of Ohio State football's prized recruits in the 2026 class, not even in college yet. However, despite not taking a snap at a big-time college football factory, the days of Name, Image and Likeness have allowed him to take advantage of opportunities given to him for his football skills. It doesn't hurt that he's the son of a former NFL wide receiver, but Henry is starring in an Adidas commercial alongside LSU wide receiver commit Tristen Keys. In the ad, which reads, "Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Nation's best wide receivers wear Adidas," Henry is seen catching a newspaper with one hand, with the camera then panning down to his Adidas adizero Death Adder cleats. Henry already has a pretty big social media following and has been committed to Ohio State since July of 2023, recently shutting down his commitment and being locked in as a Buckeye. If you had told me a decade ago that we'd see high schoolers in ads before they even stepped onto the field in college, I wouldn't have believed it for one second. It's the world we live in, and there's a pretty good chance anyway (okay, very good chance), that Henry ends up being a star. Wide Receiver U anyone? Where does Aaron Donald land in CBS Sports' top 25 all-time NFL player rankings?
With 10 Pro Bowls, three DPOY honors, and a Super Bowl-clinching performance, Donald's career ranks amongst the greatest ever. Years from now, Los Angeles Rams fans will sit back in their rocking chairs, reminiscing and educating their grandkids on just how great Aaron Donald was during his time. On the flip side, the many quarterbacks he tormented during his time will never forget the feeling of having to lead an offense knowing that No. 99 was standing in their way. CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo ranked the 25 greatest players in NFL history, with the former Rams legend coming in at No. 15 on the list. He was the fifth-highest-ranked defensive player behind Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Dick Butkus, and Ray Lewis. If someone was to make a case for Donald as the greatest defensive player in league history, they wouldn't get an argument here. A three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Donald was an All-Pro eight times in a nine-year stretch from 2015-23 and was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before hanging up his cleats last offseason. Donald's sheer will helped the Rams come back to defeat the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. Drafted by the Rams 13th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, Donald instantly made his presence felt during his rookie season. The former Unanimous All-American from Pittsburgh recorded 48 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and two forced fumbles in his first season and was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Rams knew right then and there that this was no ordinary pick but instead a franchise cornerstone. Fast forward 10 seasons, and Donald solidified himself as not only one of the greatest defenders but rather one of the greatest players to ever strap on a helmet. Over his illustrious 10-year NFL career, Donald recorded 543 tackles, 176 tackles for loss, 111 sacks, the most in team history, 258 pressures, and 24 forced fumbles. His career accolades include being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times in his career (2017, 2018, and 2020). Was named a Pro Bowler in all 10 seasons, an eight-time first-team All-Pro, selected to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, and was named to the NFL's Top 100 list for nine consecutive seasons (2015-2023), including a No. 1 ranking in 2019. The high point of the future Hall of Famer's career was helping lead the Rams to a Super Bowl title in 2021 over the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17 in a game that came down to the wire. Bengals QB Joe Burrow had an open Jamar Chase down the field on a 4th-and-1 pass play with 43 seconds left for what all likely could have been the game-winning touchdown, that is until Donald delivered the game-ending sack and securing the second world title in team history and the first in L.A. Despite retiring in his prime following the 2023 season, No. 99 left a legacy on the field. It also put a smile on the faces of opposing offensive coordinators, linemen, and quarterbacks who no longer have to deal with the defensive stalwart. Yahoo! Sports analyst ranks Chiefs Patrick Mahomes as the top QB going into 2025
The Kansas City Chiefs are once again considered contenders heading into the 2025 season, and Patrick Mahomes remains a key player in the franchise's success. Following an uncharacteristic 2024 season that saw the two-time league MVP not make the Pro Bowl, Mahomes was still selected as the top quarterback going into 2025 by Yahoo! Sports. NFL analyst Nate Tice made the call to rank Mahomes over reigning league MVP Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson. The Chiefs won the AFC Championship game for the third consecutive season and were a victory away from completing the first Super Bowl three-peat in NFL history. Mahomes finished 2024 with 3,928 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Last season was his first as a starter without 4,000 passing yards. The Chiefs' offense has been vocal throughout offseason workouts about being more explosive and scoring big points in 2025. Mahomes will likely see a resurgent performance this season with the potential for a third career MVP award.
