U-Special buses to be relaunched, says CM
'The Delhi government is once again starting the youth special bus service, which will operate on DU routes, with a little bit of music playing in the buses. This is my gift to students,' Ms. Gupta said while inaugurating a new academic block of Social Centre School, a co-ed school run by DU in Maurice Nagar, near North Campus.
The U-special buses, which were once a lifeline for college students, will return with modern upgrades, including air-conditioning, LED lighting, and music systems, to ensure a more comfortable and accessible commute, she added.
The bus service, operated by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), was suspended in March 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak.
School facelift
Social Centre School, originally built in 1947, has now been transformed into a four-storey modern facility with 21 classrooms and laboratories. DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said that the construction of the new building cost over Rs 27 crore, and was completed in a record 21 months.
The CM announced that the school will now be recognised to offer education up to Class 12.
To promote mentorship and community learning, Ms. Gupta proposed that DU colleges adopt government schools. 'Every college should be connected to two or three government schools. The college students should visit these schools on a weekly or fortnightly basis and motivate children,' she said.

An official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that several items in the tender, including whistles, lighters and mosquito nets had been bought at a cost of over Rs 3,500 each, for which tenders had been invited in February and March this year. The total procurement amount was Rs 3.17 crore for 16 pieces each of pocket knives, gas lighters, whistles and other tools. 'While a departmental inquiry is underway to ascertain how the discrepancy was not raised by the TPI and the auditing committee, the VMC is already staring at an internal controversy with the new appointments as those fire officials, who were hopeful of getting the posts vacated by Patil and Bhatt, have already sounded a rebellion… The fact is that no one pointed out the inflated cost of the items listed in the procurement list,' the official said.

CM demands over ₹1 cr. recovery from Kejriwal over ‘fake' phansi-ghar
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday called for a thorough inquiry and demanded that the ₹1.04 crore spent by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on a British-era 'fake' 'phansi-ghar' (execution room) at the Delhi Assembly be recovered from former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Terming the move a 'deception of people' and an 'insult to martyrs', Ms. Gupta said the installation was based on no official documentation and essentially a repurposed 'tiffin room' falsely portrayed as a historic phansi-ghar to mislead the public. During a discussion in the Assembly, she said an FIR should be registered against Mr. Kejriwal and the structure be removed before August 25. Noting that the phansi-ghar was inaugurated on August 9, 2022, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said the 1911-12 building map accessed from the National Archives clearly marked the space as a tiffin room. 'I challenge AAP to find one historian who can verify it was an execution room,' he said. 'Distortion of heritage' 'Such tiffin rooms are in other offices too. You will know about them if you conduct an inquiry. Without any documents, it was declared as an execution room. We are ashamed of this. He [Kejriwal] had a disease of lying,' the CM said, terming it a 'distortion of heritage'.
