Ankara [Turkey], August 11 (ANI): A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Sindirgi district of Balikesir province in Turkey on Saturday at 19:53 local time, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said. The tremor was felt in neighbouring provinces, including Manisa, Izmir, Usak, and Bursa. According to the AFAD, a total of seven aftershocks with a magnitude above 3.0 have occurred since then.AFAD has activated the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) and dispatched personnel and vehicles from various provincial directorates to support search and rescue operations. The affected areas are being closely monitored, and representatives of all disaster groups will gather at the AFAD Presidency Disaster and Emergency Management Center.In a statement, AFAD said: 'On August 10, 2025, at 19:53, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sindirgi district of Balikesir province. The earthquake was felt in the provinces of Manisa, Izmir, Usak, and Bursa. So far, a total of seven aftershocks with a magnitude above 3.0 have occurred. As of now, field surveys are ongoing. Personnel and vehicles have been dispatched from the AFAD Provincial Directorates of Çanakkale, Izmir, Afyonkarahisar, Usak, Bursa, Sakarya, Kutahya, Bilecik, Manisa, and Kocaeli to support search and rescue operations."'The Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) has been activated, and representatives of all disaster groups will gather at the AFAD Presidency Disaster and Emergency Management Center. Flash floods tore through the densely populated foothill hamlet, damaging several homes and even forcing authorities to halt the annual yatra to the Machail Mata shrine. Kishtwar, Aug 14 (ANI): Rescue operations are underway after a flash flood at the Chashoti area following a cloud burst, in Kishtwar on Thursday. (ANI Video Grab) The disaster marks the second major flood-related tragedy in India this month. The cloudburst struck around 12 noon to 1pm. Officials received news of the calamity around 11:30 am, after which SDRF, rescue teams were deployed at the site. Indian Army, Navy, Air Force teams were also activated, said Jammu's Divisional Commissioner. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the situation as 'grim' in an official statement, confirming that a cloudburst was responsible for the flooding. Viral videos of the cloudburst captured torrents of muddy water, silt, and debris racing down the steep slopes, obliterating everything in their path. Houses crumpled like a pack of cards, while boulders crashed down, blocking roads and hampering rescue efforts. The once lush green landscape was left smothered in a bleak brown-grey. Omar Abdullah shared helpline numbers as the death toll from the cloudburst continued to rise. The August 15 'at home' tea party at the CM's residence, and other cultural events in the Union Territory planned for Independence Day, have been cancelled in the light of the tragedy. The formal events - speech, march past, will however, go ahead as planned. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences stating that 'every possible assistance will be provided to those in need'. Earlier in the day, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Lt Gov Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take stock of the situation. If 10 centimetres rainfall is received at a station in one hour, the rain event is termed as cloudburst. This sudden discharge of large amount of water not only leads to human casualties but also loss of property.

According to IANS, for Uttar Pradesh, the weather department has issued an orange alert for several northern districts, warning of heavy showers in Bareilly, Lakhimpur, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Bahraich, Sitapur, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, and Maharajganj. Rain or thundershowers are expected at most locations in western Uttar Pradesh and a few places in the eastern region on Thursday, with rainfall intensity predicted to ease from August 15. At least 10 people were feared dead after a massive cloudburst struck the Chositi area in Kishtwar, the starting point of the Machail Mata Yatra. The incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon, causing potential casualties and flash floods. The administration has immediately mobilised, and rescue teams have been dispatched to the site. "A flash flood has occurred at Chositi area in Kishtwar, which is the starting point of the Machail Mata Yatra. Rescue Operations have been started," said Pankaj Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, ANI reported. Following the incident, Union minister Jitendra Singh spoke to Kishtwar deputy commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma and said that all possible assistance will be provided. 'Massive cloud burst in Chositi area, which could result in substantial casualty. Administration has immediately swung into action, rescue team has left for the site. Damage evaluation and necessary rescue and medical management arrangements are being made. My office is receiving regular updates, all possible assistance will be provided,' Jitendra Singh posted on X.
