Jay-Z Reveals He And Beyoncé Faced Death Threats Over Rape Lawsuit As He Countersues Accuser's Lawyer

Yahoo17-02-2025

Jay-Z has filed a countersuit against Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing an anonymous accuser who alleged he and rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs raped her when she was 13 years old.
In his filing, the Roc Nation boss claims he and his wife Beyonce faced death threats following the "malicious and fictitious" lawsuit, adding that the timing in which the suit came was "purposely" done by Buzbee to force him into a no-win situation.
The case was recently dismissed with prejudice, leading Jay-Z to reveal that Tony Buzbee attempted to get money from him with a number of allegations.
According to the Daily Mail, Jay-Z has filed a countersuit against Buzbee, attorney to an anonymous accuser who alleged that he and Diddy raped her as a minor at a 2000 MTV VMAs party.
In his filing, the "Empire State Of Mind" rapper claimed he and his wife received death threats due to the rape lawsuit and that Buzbee's "public statements about me and accusations against me have caused me harm."
"People have said, 'I can't wait until you join (Combs) in prison. Then later in hell,'" Jay-Z alleged in his complaint. "Other comments have accused me of being a 'satanist,' a 'trafficker,' a 'terrorist,' and a 'monster,' called me the N-word and threatened violence against me and my wife, including to 'kill' or 'execute' us."
The rape lawsuit was notably filed against Jay-Z in December, a day before the "Lion King" prequel "Mufasa," which starred Beyonce and Blue Ivy, premiered in London.
Jay-Z added in his complaints that Buzbee "purposely" filed the lawsuit the day before the premiere to "put me in the position of having to choose between supporting my daughter or hiding to avoid the negative press coverage."
Beyond the damage done to his reputation, Jay-Z also claims he lost $20 million in business contracts due to the accusations, describing the ordeal as a calculated attack on his reputation.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, the "Drunk In Love" rapper also alleged that Buzbee tried to extort him of huge sums of money over two different allegations, one of which was the case just dismissed and another which didn't make it to court.
The other case in question involved an anonymous male accuser who alleged Jay-Z sexually assaulted him at a 2015 Beverly Hills party when he was 16 years old and had been secretly drugged by someone other than the hip-hop billionaire.
According to the news outlet, the rapper noted that Buzbee's letters for both clients demanded "something of substance" to address the "situation."
However, Jay-Z interpreted it as a demand for a lot of money "to buy their silence," calling the letters "blatant blackmail attempts."
Jay-Z's countersuit comes after the anonymous plaintiff voluntarily dismissed the sexual assault lawsuit with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled again in its current form.
The rapper, via his entertainment company Roc Nation, then issued a statement referring to the dismissal as a "victory."
"Today is a victory," the statement began. "The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims."
He continued, "I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed. This 1-800 lawyer gets to file a suit hiding behind Jane Doe, and when they quickly realize that the money grab is going to fail, they get to walk away with no repercussions."
Jay-Z added that "the system has failed," noting that while the court "must protect victims," it must also "protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence" with "the same ethical responsibility."
"May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally," the rapper concluded.
Unlike Jay-Z, Diddy still has a number of sexual assault lawsuits against him.
The Bad Boy Records founder has been locked behind bars at the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
He had attempted to secure bail several times but was denied and would remain there ahead of his trial on May 5.
Responding to Friday's dismissal, Diddy's legal team also issued a statement declaring his innocence.
"For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit. Just like this claim, the others will fall apart because there is no truth to them," the statement said.
It added: "This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law."
Sources close to the Carters revealed that singer Beyoncé feels "relieved" by the dismissal of the rape lawsuit against her husband.
"Relief is too simple a word to describe what Bey is feeling right now after Jay's current legal issues were dropped," an insider told the Daily Mail.
According to the source, the family tried to put on "brave faces behind the scenes," seemingly by continuing their usual public activities despite the allegations.
They were spotted attending the premiere of Blue Ivy's "Lion King" movie and also made an appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where Beyoncé became the first Black woman in over half a century to win Best Country Album.

Police officer who faked working from home banned

A police officer who held down keys on his laptop to make it look like he was working when he was not has been barred from policing. PC Liam Reakes, who was based in Yeovil, was found to have committed gross misconduct at an Avon and Somerset Police panel hearing earlier. The panel heard how, between June and September 2024, he weighed down his laptop's Z key at "regular intervals" for "considerable periods" of time, causing the loss of more than 100 hours' of police time. He would have been sacked had he not already resigned from the force, and has now been banned from working in law enforcement again. Mr Reakes was caught after an internal audit of keystrokes in September 2024 flagged his total as much higher than others doing similar jobs. He did not attend the hearing, but admitted opening a blank Word document and holding down the Z key for long periods of time, denying this was to give a false impression he was working from home. More news stories for Somerset Listen to the latest news for Somerset Head of the force's professional standards department Det Supt Larisa Hunt said: "PC Reakes was the subject of an action plan and was allocated a tutor due to concerns over his performance prior to the keyboard audit being carried out. "The use of any device or system to replicate keyboard activity is wholly wrong and deceptive and the public will be rightly outraged at this behaviour. "Not only has he let down those he made a commitment to serve and protect but he's also let down his colleagues, who are continuing to deal with significant pressure and workloads." The heartbreaking reason Justin Bieber was forced to sell his $200M music catalog: doc

Justin Bieber was allegedly 'on the verge of financial collapse' when he sold his $200 million music catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2022, a new documentary claims. 'I was on a call with multiple people — Justin's side acknowledges that in 2022, he was on the verge of … the words were 'financial collapse.' And that's why he had to sell his catalog,' TMZ executive producer Harvey Levin alleged in the 'TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber?' doc, which is now streaming on Hulu. 'Justin said, 'I gotta sell it now.' And he sold it in December. That's how broke he was.' Levin speculated that the 'Sorry' singer — whose net worth has been estimated at $300 million — found himself 'broke' in part due to money trouble stemming from debts accrued after he canceled his 2022 Justice Tour. A TMZ staffer also alleged in the documentary that Bieber, 31, was spending massive amounts of money on the tour — with eight buses and $2 million spent in bus renovations — and in his everyday life by flying on expensive jets and purchasing several mega-mansions. Had he finished the tour, TMZ executive producer Don Nash claimed that Bieber would have made $90 million. A rep for Bieber did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment. Rumblings of financial problems have been circling around the pop star for some time. Earlier this month, it was reported that Bieber was in millions of dollars worth of debt to his former manager, Scooter Braun, despite parting ways with the music mogul almost two years ago. According to an independent six-month audit conducted by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), the singer owes Braun over $8,806,000. At the time, a source told Page Six that the debt stems from a loan the mogul made to Bieber to 'help him' after his canceled tour set him back $20 million. Last October, an insider told Page Six that the 'Peaches' singer's spending habits were 'out of control.' 'He spends eye-watering amounts per month. At one point, he couldn't even get a credit card,' the source claimed. 'Justin is surrounded by a lot of people that do not have his best interests at heart.' The same comments were echoed in May as several of the Grammy winner's friends expressed concern over his continued big spending — despite his alleged financial struggles. 'He's flying in all his friends on private jets to his birthday party, putting it all over Instagram,' a source exclusively told Page Six at the time. 'He'll spend $300,000 at the Nobu at Coachella. He hasn't worked in a really long time.' In addition to his alleged financial woes, many have speculated about the singer's mental health after he was seen on several occasions partaking in recreational drug use and exhibiting erratic behavior. In April, several sources within Bieber's inner circle told the Hollywood Reporter that they feared they were watching him 'disintegrate' due to 'not living his purpose.' 'He's lost,' one former colleague, whose identity and position were not revealed, claimed. 'There's no one protecting him because there's no one there willing to say 'no' to him. You say 'no,' you get blown out.'
