, senior Congress leader Manish Tewari joined the chorus of support from opposition leaders, calling for unity in the face of terrorism.

Speaking in Addis Ababa as part of an all-party delegation, Tewari said, 'When it comes to India's self-respect, we all rise above party politics.
'
Tewari's remarks came after similar endorsements from Congress colleagues - Shashi Tharoor and Salman Khurshid, even as party president Mallikarjun Kharge has taken a confrontational line, accusing the Centre of misleading the nation and demanding a special Parliament session after the Chief of Defence Staff confirmed an aircraft loss during military operations.
Addressing the Indian community in Ethiopia's capital, Tewari said, 'If Pakistan does not stop promoting terrorism, then the answer, which has so far been very calculated, will be very aggressive.' He mentioned that Ethiopia has expressed support for India's position and condemned the April 22
that killed 26 people.
In an interaction with ANI, Tewari said, 'Ethiopia has appreciated India's actions in self-defence.
We share a deep civilizational relationship with this country. Our people-to-people ties have always been strong and friendly.'
Highlighting the delegation's engagements, Chandigarh MP said they met Ethiopia's former Prime Minister, the Deputy Chairperson of the ruling Prosperity Party, and leaders from the African Union and Ethiopian Parliament. 'The African Union was one of the first to define terrorism clearly.

Their solidarity is significant,' he noted.
The delegation, received at Bole International Airport by Indian ambassador Anil Kumar Rai, includes leaders from across party lines: Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur (BJP), Vikramjit Singh Sahney (AAP), Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP), Anand Sharma (Congress), V. Muraleedharan (BJP), and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin.
Their visit is part of Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian government on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
As part of this initiative, seven all-party delegations have been dispatched to over 30 countries - including France, the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the US, and South Africa, to expose Pakistan's role in cross-border terrorism and present India's zero-tolerance policy.

Dharavi Redevelopment Project: Dharavi MP Varsha Gaikwad, Opp leaders meet CM; seek masterplan rollback
A delegation led by senior Congress leader and Dharavi Lok Sabha MP Varsha Gaikwad on Monday met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and demanded withdrawal of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project's masterplan approved by the government last week, terming it 'undemocratic', 'opaque' and in violation of legal norms. The Opposition delegation met Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House and submitted a formal representation alleging that the Dharavi Redevelopment Project — referred to in the letter as the 'Dharavi Vinash Yojana' — was being pushed forward without the consent of Dharavi's residents and in violation of provisions of the MRTP Act. 'We sought the government's approval to the Dharavi plan to be rolled back immediately. The people of Dharavi have not been taken into confidence. They deserve to have a say in shaping their future,' Gaikwad said after the meeting, adding that the approval to the masterplan was done secretively and without disclosure, bypassing essential steps such as public hearings and environmental assessments. The MRTP Act mandates public consultations before preparing any development plan. However, residents were not informed or invited to submit suggestions or objections, the delegation said. The masterplan lacks statutory sanction and is, therefore, unconstitutional and illegal, it argued. The memorandum said that so far only 15,171 households have been surveyed and the surveys were allegedly conducted three years ago, many done by private contractors or institutes without a clear mechanism for public verification. The memorandum also alleged the masterplan lacks clarity on ownership and rights and hence is potentially exploitative. The delegation accused the government of prioritising profit over people. The delegation demanded that apart from withdrawing the masterplan, the government must restart the planning process under the MRTP Act with proper public notices, hearings and transparency, and demanded that a fresh, third-party survey and audit of the area be conducted. 'I am not opposing redevelopment,' Gaikwad clarified. 'But this is not how it should be done. No democratic process can allow such a large-scale transformation without public participation. Dharavi must not be seen as real estate but as a living community,' she said, adding that the government must ensure full legal rights and consent from residents before taking any further steps.

While he earned criticism from certain sections for that comment, the fact is even the Congress leadership, which initially opposed the abrogation of Article 370, has since back pedalled on the issue, and is preferring these days only to seek the revival of statehood for J&K.

Karnataka State Education Policy report likely in second week of June
Bengaluru: The state education policy committee will submit its report in the second week of June after missing deadlines at least three times. The committee, headed by former UGC chairman Sukhdev Thorat, was set up in Oct 2023 as part of the promise made by Congress in its election manifesto to replace National Education Policy. While it was to submit its report in Feb 2024, it was postponed to May 2024. An interim report was submitted and the final one was expected by Aug. The panel sought another six months, and the final deadline given was May 31, 2025. Higher education minister MC Sudhakar said the report will be submitted to the chief minister. He was speaking at the launch of a quarterly magazine brought out by Karnataka State Higher Education Council. The govt has given approval for the department to get Rs 2,600 crore-loan from Asian Development Bank, primarily for strengthening technical education in the state, the minister said. A team from the bank will visit the state this month.
