Amazon slashes over 30% off 'brilliant' wireless doorbell camera that's 'fantastic value'

Daily Record22-04-2025

The wireless camera can be snapped up for under £50.
Many of us will be embarking on well-deserved and long-awaited summer holidays over the next few months for some sun, good food, and relaxation. A common anxiety when going away for a week or two is whether or not your home is safe sitting empty.
But luckily, Amazon are offering a generous discount on a highly-rated security camera.
The XTU Wireless WiFi Video Doorbell Camera is currently 31 per cent off for Amazon Prime members, cutting its price from a steep £69.99 to a more affordable £47.99. The wireless camera connects to your phone via the CloudEdge app which alerts you of any movement outside your door while you're away.
The Video Doorbell Camera boasts many high-tech features, including a built-in rechargeable battery that can last one to two months, ensuring that you won't have to charge the batteries too often. Its motion detection and two-way audio features allow you to see and hear whatever is happening on your doorstep whenever you're not there.
Its product description on Amazon says the wireless device can be set up in just five minutes, without the need for any specialist tools. The camera is also waterproof to resist the changeable Scottish weather, meaning you can keep an eye on your home year-round.
The high-tech lens provides crystal-clear images and video recordings via 2560x1440 Megapixel and 166 degree wide view angle, as well as night vision of up to 30 ft. It offers an optional paid subscription for the app, but reviewers have deemed this extra cost 'not necessary'.
The doorbell camera boasts a high rating of 4.3 stars out of a possible five, with a whopping 5000 odd reviews.
One happy customer said: "Great little doorbell for a really good price! Good camera quality and manages to detect motion with a really impressive range. Brilliant night vision too.
"Easy to physically install took me about five minutes and the setup on the app was a breeze with the ability to add household members to share the footage and settings with without any trouble."
Another pleased customer said: "I purchased this door camera/bell about a year ago. I cannot fault its functionality and ease of use. It works really well and exceeded my expectations."
Tech deal of the week
If you're on the market for a new TV, you'll know it can be a fairly pricey purchase.
However, we have a deal that won't cost an arm and a leg, as the Hisense 4K UHD Smart TV is currently at its cheapest price on Amazon. It's currently on sale for £599 at Amazon, a 25 per cent discount from the usual £799 price tag.
According to price tracker camelcamelcamel, this is the lowest price ever offered for this TV. Launched last year, the Hisense U7N is said to deliver one billion shades of colour due to its Quantum Dot and Mini-LED technology.
This uses thousands of tiny LEDs to create dimming zones, offering superior control over brightness, contrast and colour compared to standard models. The TV also boasts Hisense's new Hi-View Engine Pro feature, which uses AI to upscale content for a higher quality image.
Its Dolby Atmos sound system is said to create an immersive experience by making it seem like sound is coming from all directions, whether you're watching films or playing games.
As well as countless films and series on streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+, the Hisense U7N also offers Freely, a new platform that provides live and on-demand TV from BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and more in one place.
It also comes with built-in Alexa voice control, allowing for hands-free operation of the TV.
Over 100 have been bought on Amazon in the last month, where it is an Amazon's Choice product - meaning it is highly-rated, well-priced, and available to ship immediately. If you don't want to miss the deal, buy it here.
A third said: "This video doorbell is absolutely fantastic value for money. It has all the features that all of the more expensive brands have and it performs outstandingly. So simple to set up and install and the app is really user friendly. I did try the optional subscription although I don't think it's necessary.
"It has the option for an SD card and that will more than suffice for anyone's needs. Great battery life (even with us living on a constantly busy road). It did take me a few attempts to alter the alarm notifications but after a short while I've found the sweet spot. Great video and sound quality and solid connectivity. Definitely would recommend!
However, one customer was not so satisfied, saying: "I bought this as a present for Christmas, it started off really well but the device has been acting up, the motion sensor doesn't work and the camera will be offline for days and won't connect.
"I've contacted the company for a solution but none of them worked so will be getting it refunded."
For those browsing other doorbell cameras, Argos offers the eufy E340 2K Dual Cameras Smart Video Doorbell with Chime for a more expensive £124.99, or the Arlo Essential HD Wi-Fi 4-in1 Smart Video Doorbell for a cheaper £89.99.

BaByliss hair straightener that works 'just as well as ghd' drops from £90 to £30

'My wife was absolutely delighted with the BaByliss Rose Gold Styler—a true game changer in her daily beauty routine.' One applicance that everyone should have in their home is a quality set of hair straighteners. This versatile hair tool can both straighten and curl your hair, letting you have complete control of how you will look that day. However, one of the problems with hair straighteners is products from high quality brands usually come with a pretty hefty price tag. And while you want to buy a set that will last you a good few years, it can be difficult to part with your hard earned money. Thankfully, in a limited time deal, Amazon has slashed the price of well known branded hair straightener, saving shoppers £60. Originally priced at £90, shoppers can now snatch up the BaByliss Rose Gold Hair Straighteners for only £29.99. Bought by over 1,000 shoppers in the last 30 days, these BaByliss hair straighteners are said to deliver users effortless styling. With floating ceramic plates, the device will glide smoothly through your hair to get rid of any kinks without snagging, leaving users with silky, straight hair "every time". Featuring three temperature settings, ranging from 180 to 235 degrees, shoppers will have more control over the amount of heat they are putting onto their hair. Additionally, for those in a rush, this hair straightener is said to be ready to use in just 15 seconds due to its advanced ceramic heating system. Along with a heat-proof mat for added safety, this device will also automatically turn off after an hour to give users added peace of mind. And for those who want sleek, smooth hair anywhere, this device will become your perfect travel companion as it is equipped with a built-in multi-voltage functionality. Another set of straighteners that have been reduced by Amazon are the ghd Gold Hair Straightener & Styler. Normally retailing for £189, shoppers can now snatch the styler for £150.30 in a limited time deal. This styler promises to give users a 'salon smooth finish' as it uses dual-zone technology for a premium performance. Alternatively, Argos is selling the Remington Sapphire Luxe Hair Straightener for £35. Along with a three year warranty, these hair straighteners are said to make your hair two times smoother than standard stylers. As well as a ultra-fast 15 second heat up time, this device comes with five temperatures to choose from. Back to the BaByliss hair straightener, Amazon shoppers have awarded the device a 4.6 star rating. With many shoppers praising its sleek design, one shopper noted that they became a 'game changer' for their wife's beauty routine. One happy shopper said: "BaByliss products never disappointed me. Great hair straightener, does exactly what it supposed to do despite me being too lazy of sectioning in small portions the hair, I do divide my hair in two parts literally (right half and left half). "The hair straightener gets hot quickly, has a long cable which gives you enough mobility, only minus I personally do not love the rose pink colour." Another reviewer added: "My wife was absolutely delighted with the BaByliss Rose Gold Styler—a true game changer in her daily beauty routine. From the moment she unboxed it, she was captivated by its sleek, rose gold design. "The elegant finish not only adds a luxurious touch to her vanity but also makes a striking visual statement. Holding it, she immediately noticed its premium quality and the way it felt balanced and substantial, yet surprisingly lightweight in her hand." However, not everyone was overly impressed by the hair tool, as one shopper noted: "Works fine but quite a basic model. The cord attached to the straightener doesn't swivel so gets caught up quite easily. I'd recommend a more expensive one that has more features." With another three-star reviewer adding: "This straightener works well and has a usefully long lead. The location of the control between the arms is a real pain. Much better on the side." Despite this, a happy shopper added: "Bought these for my partner after her last set finally died after 10 years of use. She has used them everyday since and has loved them, very sleek and easy to store, take very little tome to heat up and leaves her extremely thick curly hair looking extremely straight. She says she would definitely buy these over more expensive brands." While five-star reviewer went on to say: "Bought these to replace a set of GHD straighteners and to be honest they work just as well. Only downside is that the pink heat mat/cover is just a little bit small. However, that's forgivable because the product is good." To buy the BaByliss Rose Gold Hair Straighteners, click HERE. Manhattan released the software update for its T4-R and T4 Freeview boxes. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 A new software update looks set to remove bugs from Manhattan's T4-R and T4 Freeview boxes Credit: Amazon The latest version - 2.06 - will finally fix a long-standing standby mode issue that has affected a number of users. The update, which began rolling out this week, addresses numerous stability issues while fixing compatibility problems with popular streaming apps and improving recording reliability on the T4-R. If you've been using Energy Saver mode as a workaround to avoid the standby problems, you can now safely switch back to Sleep or Smart standby modes without fear of your box becoming unresponsive. The upgrade comes after households were warned of widespread Freeview disruption this week that could make their TVs stop working properly. Viewers may switch on their telly to find a black, pixelated or flickering screen as a result of planned engineering works. Some 87 areas are expected to be affected, according to Freeview. Freeview has urged households that the disruption is only temporary and to not retune their TV. "If you are affected by engineering work, please don't try and retune your TV - reception will be restored as soon as the engineering work is completed," the company said. "Occasionally, routine engineering work is required on transmitters in order to improve terrestrial TV services. "While every effort is made to minimise the impact on viewers, this can cause temporary disruption to reception." Clash of Clans coming to Netflix in new animated TV series If you don't want to miss your favourite TV shows while the work is taking place, Freeview has suggested households check out its online TV guide. The Freeview Channel Checker tells viewers what changes are taking place that may affect their service and viewing. To use it, simply enter your postcode to see what will be affected. If you have a hybrid or smart TV, you can watch uninterrupted TV during the engineering works via the Freeview app or website. While Freeview typically requires an aerial, you can access many Freeview channels and on-demand content through streaming apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and All 4. If you're not sure what transmitter you're predicted to get your signal from, put your postcode into Freeview's Detailed Transmitter Information tool to check.

MSP says Elon Musk should ‘forget Trump and bring SpaceX to Scotland'

Elon Musk should relocate his American business interests in Scotland after his public falling out with US President Donald Trump, an MSP has suggested. The pair have clashed in recent days over a bill which the tech mogul says will increase the US budget deficit - he has since become one of Mr Trump's fiercest critics. Elon Musk at the White House. | Getty Images The Alba MSP, who previously called on the billionaire to open a Tesla Gigafactory in Scotland, says Scotland is an emerging force within the space and satellite industries, and branded Glasgow the 'satellite manufacturing capital of Europe'. Due to Mr Trump's family and business ties to Scotland, Ms Regan believes such a move by Mr Musk could 'prompt a bidding war between the president of the United States and one of the world's richest men as to who can invest more in Scotland'. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad This comes after Mr Trump threatened to cut US government contracts given to Mr Musk's SpaceX rocket company and his Starlink internet satellite services - in response, Mr Musk said SpaceX 'will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately'. He U-turned on this statement within hours, as SpaceX is the only US company capable of transporting crews to and from this space station using its four-person Dragon capsules. Cargo versions of this capsule are also used to ferry food and other supplies to the orbiting lab. 'Glasgow is already known as the satellite manufacturing capital of Europe, and we are on the verge of becoming a global player in the industry. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'We have the sites, the people and the vision to match Elon Musk's aspirations for SpaceX so the Scottish Government should be opening the door and advertising Scotland as the go-to place if he wishes to relocate his business ventures here if contract cancellation threats in the US are upheld.' Scotland is currently developing multiple spaceports, including the Sutherland Spaceport in the Highlands and the SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland - Ms Regan says both these sites are ready for Mr Musk to relocate his SpaceX operations to. The Alba MSP said other suitable sites include the proposed Spaceport 1 in the Outer Hebrides, the Macrihanish Spaceport Cluster and Prestwick Spaceport. She says Scotland cannot be left behind as passengers in this emerging industry, and added: 'I previously proposed Scotland as the site for the next Tesla Gigafactory and unfortunately Elon Musk ruled out investment due to the policies of the UK Labour government. 'Scotland has the potential for abundant renewable energy, which is needed to power emergent technologies. 'By creating innovative investment opportunities, we can then capitalise on Scotland's USP, ensuring we invest this bounty to benefit Scotland's businesses and communities. 'No more being left behind as passengers while Westminster squanders the power of our own resources.
