Bournemouth keeping tabs on Kyogo Furuhashi

Yahoo27-05-2025

AFC Bournemouth are reportedly keeping a close eye on Stade Rennais striker Kyogo Furuhashi, according to Le Parisien.
Andoni Iraola's side are assessing potential attacking reinforcements, and Furuhashi's proven goal-scoring record has placed him on their radar.
Furuhashi, 30, made a significant impact during his time at Celtic, netting 85 goals in 165 appearances and securing eight major honours, including three Premiership titles.
His performances at Hampden Park earned him a move to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes back in January for a €10 million fee.
Furuhashi has not had the best of times during his brief spell in France so far, with no goals for his new employers, but the 30-year-old remains a man in demand.
Prior to his switch to Roazhon Park, Furuhashi was wanted by Manchester City as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez last summer, although a move failed to materialise.
However, Furuhashi could now be set for another shot at English football, with Bournemouth now eyeing a deal for the Japanese international.
Furuhashi is not the only Rennes player of interest to Bournemouth, as the Cherries also hold an interest in Adrien Truffert.
Truffert, 22, has been a consistent performer in Ligue 1, making over 100 appearances for Rennes since breaking into the first team in 2020.
Known for his pace, technical ability, and willingness to push forward, Truffert offers a modern full-back profile that appeals to clubs looking for dynamism on the flanks.
Bournemouth's interest in Truffert is hardly surprising due to Milos Kerkez's impending departure amid links to Manchester City and Liverpool.
Should Bournemouth move forward with their desire to sign Truffert, they will be hoping to fend off competition and secure one of Ligue 1's brightest defensive talents.
The left-back has one year left on his current contract but could be sold this summer as Rennes look to trim down their squad size before the commencement of their pre-season training camp on June 28.

Former Liverpool coaches Pep Lijnders, James French join Pep Guardiola's staff at Manchester City

Manchester City have appointed two former Liverpool coaches to Pep Guardiola's backroom staff. Pep Lijnders spent nine and a half years at Anfield as an assistant coach, the majority of those alongside Jurgen Klopp, across two spells. Lijnders, 42, left along with Klopp last summer to take up the head coach role at Red Bull Salzburg but lasted just seven months in the role before being sacked in December. He has taken up the role of assistant coach at City. Advertisement James French moves directly from Liverpool and joins as a set-piece coach, having worked as an opposition analyst for the Merseyside club since 2012. The Athletic reported in May that Guardiola was reshuffling his coaching staff after a disappointing defence of their Premier League title. They ended the season 13 points behind champions Liverpool. Assistants Juanma Lillo, Carlos Vicens, and Inigo Dominguez are all leaving the club, with Guardiola said to be keen to add new voices and perspectives to his backroom team to help him continue to push on and innovate. Lijnders joined Liverpool in 2014 as an under-16s coach and was promoted to the first team staff by Brendan Rodgers the following year. When Klopp replaced Rodgers in October of that year, Lijnders stayed on. He spent a season as head coach of NEC Nijmegen in his native Netherlands in 2018 before returning. Alongside Klopp, the Dutchman helped Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as the FA Cup and Carabao Cup (twice). City will compete in the Champions League again next season after closing their campaign strongly to finish third. (Photo of Pep Lijnders:)

Kepa Arrizabalaga: Chelsea goalkeeper set for £5m Arsenal switch as Gunners land 'priority' target

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. The Gunners made goalkeeper a priority position to strengthen this summer and have been actively considering options for a new understudy to No1 David Raya for a number of months. Advertisement Standard Sport now understands they have moved swiftly to approach agreements with both Kepa and Chelsea to sign the Spaniard, who has a £5million release clause inserted into his current Chelsea contract. All parties are now expected to finalise his signing. Arsenal had held interest in the Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, but the 24-year-old now seems likeliest to end up at Barcelona. That prompted the Gunners to consider other options before settling on Kepa. Kepa spent last season on loan from Chelsea at Bournemouth, where he was the club's first-choice goalkeeper. Prior to that, he spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Real Madrid once it became clear he did not have a future at Chelsea. Advertisement The goalkeeper position is up in the air this summer at Chelsea but it is understood that Kepa, formerly the club's first-choice keeper, was never a viable option to reclaim that role. Signed by Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao for a £72m fee in 2017, Kepa has represented Spain on 13 occasions at senior level.

Manchester City set to sign goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea

Manchester City are set to complete the signing of experienced goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea. The move for the 33-year-old former Fulham player follows the announcement that Scott Carson would be leaving the club at the end of the month. Bettinelli, who has a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, will move for an undisclosed fee. Advertisement He is expected to be part of City's squad for the Club World Cup with Chelsea, appreciative of his service over his four years at the club, helping facilitate a move in time for the newly-expanded tournament. Both Chelsea and City are competing in the United States and get their campaigns underway against LAFC and Wydad AC respectively. Carson, now 39, was part of Pep Guardiola's side that won 12 major honours over the last six seasons since joining in 2019, initially on loan, but made just two appearances. Bettinelli has fulfilled a similar squad depth role at Chelsea, making just one appearance since arriving in 2021, a 5-1 FA Cup third-round win over National League side Chesterfield in January 2022. He will now join a goalkeeping room comprising of first-choice Ederson and regular backup Stefan Ortega. ()
