John saves an anxious Liam in early Emmerdale ITVX release
The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
John Sugden (Oliver Farnwroth) found an opportunity to get his old job back in Emmerdale tonight, and he grabbed it with both hands.
The complex character was revealed as Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) murderer a few weeks ago. The former member of the army gave Nate some medication after he was attacked, but he had a bad reaction to it and died. John then disposed of Nate's body in the lake.
What we also know about John is that he has a hero complex. He orchestrates situations that he knows he can fix, and is then praised by the people around him. So far, he's put the likes of Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) in danger and then saved them. In tonight's episode, it was Liam's (Jonny McPherson) turn.
John knocked Liam unconscious recently, believing he was Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb). He was quick on his feet though, and rushed into the scene to try and help him, looking like a good person in front of Chas and Aaron (Danny Miller).
In tonight's episode, Liam's anxiety increased when Claudette (Flo Wilson) accidentally knocked a plant on the floor. The sudden smash brought Liam back to the moment where he was attacked, which caused him to become overwhelmed and struggle with his breathing. More Trending
Sensing an opportunity, John swept in and helped Liam calm down. The incident happened moments after John told Liam he was quitting work at the surgery, so it suddenly seemed as though he was quite invaluable.
Later on, in the café, Liam approached John and urged him to come back to work at the surgery. He said he really needed his help, and how it was clear patients would continue to benefit from his skills.
John, playing it cool, said yes but made sure Liam knew they weren't completely back on the same page. Once again, John took advantage of a struggling resident to make sure he looked good.
This decreases the chance of people ever growing suspicious about him but with Cain (Jeff Hordley) determined to find out why Nate isn't ringing him back, John will have more to worry about when the Dingles discover he never actually got to Shetland…

Emmerdale star teases what's wrong with Bear as character set to vanish
Emmerdale's Mandy Dingle actress Lisa Riley told us what's ahead amid a mystery storyline for Bear on the ITV soap, hinting at huge and unexpected twists as the character vanishes Actress Lisa Riley has hinted at worrying and huge Emmerdale scenes ahead, concerning the new storyline with Bear. Lisa's character Mandy Dingle will be left concerned for her father-in-law Bear, with her and her husband Paddy Kirk, Bear's son, already confused by his recent behaviour. As the concern grows and a clash occurs between father and son, Bear ends up leaving the village and going completely AWOL. It's been revealed to The Mirror that the character, played by actor Joshua Richards, will be offscreen for "a month of two". The character then suddenly returns, and when he does it's noticeable that something is very different. With it thought that Paddy could "miss the signs" about what is going on with his dad amid his past experiences with depression, it's not being confirmed just yet what exactly is going on with Bear. It's clear he's in turmoil, while he's been having mood swings and displaying other worrying behaviour. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, actress Lisa has hinted when it does come out what is going on fans might be shocked. She teased unexpected scenes ahead with her reaction to the fact that fans currently have no idea what is wrong with Bear. READ MORE: EastEnders Shane Richie addresses Alfie 'exit' and teases huge Zoe Slater twist She told us: "It is better that you don't know what's gonna happen with Bear. It's so..." She then made a noise and pulled a face that suggested the story could come as a shock to fans, while she gave nothing away. While she didn't want to go too much into detail, her reaction did hint that whatever happens will be big and possibly won't be guessed by viewers. As we asked her about how Mandy will react when Bear returns, Lisa said her concern would be more aimed at Paddy. Giving nothing away, she teased: "He disappears and then he comes back. But she's really conscious of Paddy so she's looking after Paddy's point of view... without giving too much away. She'll be looking after Paddy." Whether this means Paddy's hurt over his dad's abrupt exit and him being gone for so long, or the impact it has on Paddy, she did not say. But it's clear there are huge things ahead for the trio, and that Bear's plot is going to have a lasting impact. Speaking recently to The Mirror about the plot, actor Joshua teased what was ahead. He told us: "I'm not really sure the true nature of exactly what is going on, but there is a change there. I never saw sort of a more stripped-back Bear, emotionally through the ringer. "So I think there's something big coming up for him, which I'm really looking forward to." He went on: "He alters somewhat. He's not too good for some reason, which we don't know why. So he's been slightly erratic emotionally and with his moods. "There are mood swings coming up for him, periods of forgetfulness, and maybe the kind of things that happened with a man of his age." On how the storyline will impact Paddy, he teased: "Paddy will feel guilty, because this is his father's experience in this and it's right next to him, and he can't see it. "He can't put his finger on it even though he's experienced it himself. That's one part of the storyline that will be going on is that somewhere down the line, he'll have to realise that he missed it. That'll be an important part of Paddy's storyline as well." Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Next week in Coronation Street, panic takes hold as Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) is left reeling from a string of betrayals and police drama, only for Gary Windass (Mikey North) to vanish without a trace. With Liam (Charlie Wrenshall) growing increasingly anxious and Maria fearing the worst, one question looms: Where is Gary, and is he in danger? As days pass and Liam's concerns grow, Maria questions whether Gary has taken the time to clear his head after a confusing run-in with Lou or if something far more serious is going on. It all kicked off when Maria arrived home from the police station after being accused of assault following her confrontation with Lou, where she accused her of stealing cash from the salon. She was furious and suspected that Lou was the one who reported her. A conniving Lou paid a visit to Gary, insisting she doesn't want trouble. In an attempt to keep the peace, Gary offered her a beer, but things soon moved into dangerous territory. While Gary was in the toilet, Lou sent herself a secret message off his phone. When he returned, Lou made a move and tried to kiss Gary, only for him to jump back in horror. Feeling humiliated, Lou retaliated and threatened Gary with blackmail. Maria then returned home to find Gary packing a bag. He told her he's going to stay with his mum for a few days. Gary admitted that Lou came round but promised nothing happened. Maria struggled to believe him and broke down in tears, devastated that he may be hiding something. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? Soap stars who flopped in America from shop assistant to one-hit wonder
As Michelle Ryan rejoins EastEnders as gobby Zoe Slater after trying her luck stateside in the axed remake of Bionic Woman, we look at other soap actors from Enders, Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks who have tried to crack America Soap fans are celebrating the return of Michelle Ryan to EastEnders - back as gobby Zoe Slater after a 20-year gap. She left Walford in 2005 after landing the role of Jaime Sommers in the US remake of Bionic Woman. The show was set to make her a huge US TV star, but sadly the 2007 show was axed after just one series. Michelle, 41, is far from the only British star to be enjoying rebound soap success after following their acting dreams over the pond. Even one Oscar winner realised that home really is where the heart is... READ MORE: Emmerdale star loses 4 stone as lifestyle change reverses major health issue Patsy Palmer, EastEnders Michelle's Albert Square colleague, famous for those yells of "Rickaaay!" as Bianca Butcher, headed to California in 2014 with her husband Richard Merkell and her four children. But her career did not make as much headway out there, according to her IMDB entry, which cites a 2014 TV commercial for Best Buy and a UK short film in 2015, which starred her son Charley Palmer Rothwell, 33. Patsy does have a very glamorous claim to LA fame though. Her son Fenton Merkell, 25, dated supermodel Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber, after they met as models. But the allure of Bianca's Puffa jacket has proven too strong. Patsy, 53, has yo-yoed in and out of the BBC soap for years. She returned last year, staying until earlier this year, when she went on Celebrity Big Brother. Rob Kazinsky, EastEnders He played Sean Slater from 2006 until 2009, before landing his big break in vampire series True Blood in 2013, as Macklyn Warlow. Rob, 41, then made the jump to the big screen in Pacific Rim (2013), Warcraft (2016) and Captain Marvel (2019). However it appears after time in the Marvel universe he was yearning for something more down to earth - as he headed back to EastEnders for a brief stint in 2019, and then made two more appearances in 2021 and 2022 Nikki Sanderson, Coronation Street As mouthy hairdresser Candice, she was a favourite on the ITV soap from 1995 to 2005. She tried her hand across the pond, with mixed results. Nikki, 41, did land a role in 2008 horror film Boogeyman 3, PRAISE but it went straight to DVD. Fast forward to 2012 and she joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Maxine Minniver, to great success. She was praised for playing a domestic violence victim in one of the Channel 4 soap's most harrowing storylines. Nikki won the Inside Soap Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2023, before quitting the soap this year. Rachel Shenton, Hollyoaks She starred as Mitzeee Minniver for three years before leaving in 2013. She went on to appear in US series Switched at Birth from 2014 to 2017. The following year she won an Oscar for her short film The Silent Child, based on her own experiences as the child of a parent who became deaf. Rachel, 37, now stars in the family friendly drama All Creatures Great and Small on 5, as James Herriot's love interest. Adele Silva, Emmerdale Aside from a five-year break from 2000, the actress was part of the furniture at the ITV soap - first appearing as Kelly Windsor in 1993 aged 13. She tried to leave Kelly behind in 2007 and moved to the US, but struggled to find acting jobs, and in 2010 she was pictured working in a Ted Baker store in LA. Adele came back to Emmerdale briefly before starring in 2012 comedy horror film Strippers vs Werewolves with Freddy Kruger actor Robert Englund. Bagging more UK acting jobs rather than LA ones, Adele, 44, then headed to Hollyoaks for seven episodes in 2015, playing Leela Lomax's cousin, Angela Brown Joshua Richards, Emmerdale Joshua's career path is pretty unique as, unlike others soap rebounders, he was a Hollywood heavyweight who turned his back on Tinseltown to appear in soapland. More than two decades ago, Josh was starring with Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom and Peter O'Toole in 2004 blockbuster Troy. Josh, 65, also starred in 2017 film King Arthur: Excalibur Rising, before landing the role of Bear Wolf on Emmerdale. It was a dream job, because he was desperate to work in Yorkshire, where he has lived for 30 years "and be home in time for my tea". But he also has some early soap pedigree, after appearing in an episode of Heartbeat back in 1999. And here are some of the homegrown acting talents who became global stars after heading stateside... Idris Elba, Family Affairs His first big break came in the Channel 5 soap in 1997, as Tim Webster, followed by London's Burning in 2001, before trying his luck in the US . Idris, 52, hit the big-time playing Stringer Bell in the iconic cop series The Wire from 2002 to 2004. On the big screen, he has been in American Gangster (2007), Prometheus (2012) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Himesh Patel, EastEnders Himesh is one of biggest soap exports, and is now successful film actor since leaving his role as Tamwar Masood in EastEnders from 2007 to 2016. He has appeared in the Beatles inspired 2019 movie Yesterday, Christopher Nolan film Tenet (2020), Don't Look Up (2021), and 2022. film Enola Holmes 2. Himesh, 34, is now filming Enola Holmes 3, as Dr John Watson. Nathalie Emmanuel, Hollyoaks Three years after leaving the Channel 4 soap, as Sasha Valentine, in 2010, she played the major role of Missandei in Game of Thrones until 2019. She then appeared in 2022 horror film The Invitation, Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis last year, and Natalie, 36, also turned up in Fast & Furious seven, eight and nine. Ben Hardy, EastEnders Shortly after leaving his role of Peter Beale, he was cast in 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse, followed by Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), and Love at First Sight (2023).
