Vijayawada: HRD and IT minister
Nara Lokesh
has assured the tobacco growers of extending full support from state govt. He said that the State would request the Centre to intervene and support the tobacco growers.
Several tabacco farmers met Lokesh during his visit toAmmanabrolu of Prakasam district on Thursday and expressed their ordeal.
They said that the merchants were not picking up their stocks citing poor international demand, while traders were rejecting the stocks in auction platforms without quoting the price to avoid purchase.
Lokesh immediately called
agriculture minister K Atchannaidu
and brought the tobacco farmers' concerns to his notice.
He suggested the agriculture minister to discuss the issue with Union commerce ministry officials, if necessary.
Atchannaidu told Lokesh that he had been reviewing the situation with the tobacco purchasing companies and tobacco board officials. He explained that he had already asked the traders to immediately increase the price and purchase the entire stock.
The agriculture minister also mentioned that a decision had been made to cover transportation charges for distances up to 20 km.

Earlier in the day, Lokesh visited the family of TDP leader and former MPP Muppavarapu Veeraiah Chowdary, who was murdered in Ongole recently. Lokesh paid tribute by garlanding Chowdary's portrait. He consoled the family of the deceased and offered them the party's support.
Recalling his bond with Veeraiah Chowdary, Lokesh noted that he had walked along his side during the Yuvagalam Padayatra and worked to strengthen the party.
"Govt will ensure that the culprits in Chowdary's murder case face stringent punishment," assured the HRD minister.

‘Trump was pissed': Ted Cruz on Musk's tweets; says he ‘felt like kids of divorce wishing mommy and daddy would stop screaming'

Ted Cruz says he was with Trump when Musk started attacking the latter on social media Senator Ted Cruz described witnessing Donald Trump 's anger while Elon Musk launched a scathing online attack against the US President on Thursday, likening his position to that of a child amidst parental discord. "I was sitting in the Oval as this unfolded. Trump was pissed. He was venting," the Republican senator disclosed on his podcast "Verdict with Ted Cruz" Friday, quoted by the New York Post. "I was sitting there, and the tweets were coming…. Elon was saying some really harsh things," he added. Cruz, who maintains close friendships with both former associates, further described their widely publicised separation this week as "incredibly painful." "These are two men whom I know very well, they're both good friends of mine," he said. He expressed his discomfort with the situation saying, 'I feel like the kids of a bitter divorce where you're just saying, 'I really wish mommy and daddy would stop screaming.'' The Tesla and SpaceX CEO initiated a prolonged social media campaign against Trump, criticising the president's reconciliation bill as "disgusting" and encouraging Congress to reject it. "Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate," Musk responded after Trump addressed the growing discord. The conflict intensified throughout the week, with Trump threatening to terminate government contracts worth billions with Musk's enterprises, while Musk alleged Trump's reluctance to release the Jeffrey Epstein files was due to his involvement, a post he later deleted, along with few others. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "It just went from zero to 11 instantaneously," Cruz said. "These are two alpha males who are pissed off. And unfortunately, they're unloading on each other … They're angry, it's not complicated." Cruz and his co-presenter agreed both parties had valid points - Trump's budget bill required passage, yet Musk's concerns about deficit reduction warranted attention. "Unfortunately, Elon is working under the assumption that Congress actually wants to do the job and save our country," podcast co-host Ben Ferguson said. "And I think Trump is working under the reality that there's a lot of people in Congress that actually aren't looking out for the American people." On Saturday, Musk removed his Epstein files post, indicating a possible retreat. However, Trump remained firm in his stance. "I have no intention of speaking to him," he informed NBC News.

Claims of forest rights face challenges as Dec deadline looms

Margao: Sixty-five-year-old Mahadev Velip clutches weathered papers outside his mud house at Morpirla, in Quepem taluka — documents that could secure his family's future under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act. Like thousands of others, he waits as chief minister Pramod Sawant's Dec 19 deadline to clear all pending claims faces mounting challenges. With 10,500 claims filed across the state, only 871 families have been cleared to be issued sanads (title deeds) so far. Another 949 claims have been rejected, leaving 8,680 families in limbo — including Velip's. Sanads will be issued to 150 families at a function to be held on Monday at Ponda. Also, a special camp will be held on June 14 across six talukas to fast-track pending cases. 'This land has been our home for generations,' said Velip, his eyes scanning the foliage around his dwelling. 'Without official recognition, we have always lived in fear.' Sources in the tribal welfare department reveal three critical obstacles threatening the Dec 19 timeline. The most pressing is a severe shortage of skilled personnel for spot verification and demarcation of claimed land — the crucial step in the validation of each claim. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Bragado (ver precio) Verisure Undo Survey teams currently manage only three to four verifications per day, a pace that appears insufficient given the massive backlog. The monsoon compounds these difficulties. Heavy rain triggers extensive vegetation growth and waterlogging, making forest sites virtually inaccessible and bringing verification work to 'almost a standstill', officials said. A forest department official said, 'We are racing against time and nature. The monsoon window severely limits our working months.' A third challenge involves ensuring adequate gram sabha attendance to validate claims — the requirement of 50% quorum at gram sabhas, with a third of them women, has turned out to be a major impediment in the speedy processing of the claims. Further, processing claims that are not supported by adequate documentation is fraught with delays. With the Dec 19 deadline only six months away, sources said the fulfilment of the promise depends on navigating these formidable challenges.

Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi campaigns for Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu in Ludhiana West and criticizes Aam Aadmi Party leadership

Ludhiana: With just 11 days left until the Ludhiana West byelection, political heat intensified on Sunday as Aam Aadmi Party's former MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi accused its supremo Arvind Kejriwal of remote-controlling Punjab's govt and betraying the ideals of the AAP movement. Now a Congress member and sitting MP from Patiala, Dr Gandhi was in Ludhiana to campaign for Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu. At a press conference with senior Congress figures — including legislator Rana Gurjit Singh, former minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, and former MLA Kuljit Nagra — Dr Gandhi urged voters to "send a message" to Kejriwal by defeating AAP in the upcoming byelection. Accusing AAP of abandoning its anti-elitist platform, he said: "They called themselves Aam Aadmi, but now live like VIPs." He said the same leaders who once rejected VIP culture now revelled in privilege, sidelining grassroots voices and imposing Delhi's control on Punjab's governance. Dr Gandhi, a cardiologist who began his political journey with AAP during the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare, said he was drawn in by promises of revolution and clean politics — but soon saw what he called "the true colours" of the party. He accused Kejriwal specifically of dominating Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging that major appointments and decision-making power have been handed over to Delhi-based leaders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Olavarría (ver precio) Verisure Undo "Even the CM's own office hasn't been spared," he said. "Delhi people have started running Punjab." Dr Gandhi cited personal experiences that led to his break with AAP, including clashes with party leadership over parliamentary speeches and community development issues. He claimed he was pressured by AAP leaders like Raghav Chadha to stick to talking points set by Delhi and was blocked from advocating for a cremation ground for Dalits in villages. "Kejriwal didn't want me to raise Punjab's real issues," Dr Gandhi said. "They tried to muzzle me in Parliament, and now they're trying to muzzle Punjab." Calling the bypoll a referendum on self-governance, he urged voters in Ludhiana West to reject what he called "outsider rule" and elect Ashu to restore local autonomy. "This election is not just about one seat," he said. "It's about standing up for Punjab." MSID:: 121707831 413 |
