Delhi HC grants 90-day interim bail to woman accused in POCSO case to care for her newborn
New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): The Delhi High Court granted 90 days' interim bail to a woman to enable her to take care of her barely two-month-old baby born in judicial custody. She has two minor children living with her in jail. She is an accused in a POCSO case lodged in 2019 at the Burari Police Station.
Justice Renu Bhatnagar granted interim bail to the accused Kushi after considering the facts that charges have been framed and the case is at the stage of prosecution evidence.
'The applicant is unable to properly take care of her new born child while being in judicial custody, the applicant is granted interim bail for a period of 90 days from the date of her release, on furnishing a personal bond in sum of Rs. 25,000 with one surety in the like amount,' Justice Bhatnagar ordered on June 25.
The applicant was re-arrested on December 12, 2024. Earlier, she was granted regular bail by the trial court, but a non-bailable warrant was issued against her on September 24, 2024, due to her non-appearance before the court. Thereafter, she was declared a proclaimed offender. She was sent to judicial custody after her re-arrest. She gave birth to a child on May 12, 2025.
While granting interim bail, the High Court also considered the medical report, which stated that the applicant, along with her two children, is currently lodged in Central Jail No. 6 of Tihar Jail complex. The medical status report states that at the time of her admission to jail, she was pregnant and delivered a child on 12.05.2025.
Advocate Indrapal Khokhar, counsel for the accused, submitted that the applicant has two minor children; one aged around two years and the other is a newborn, while being in judicial custody.
He further submitted that the applicant is unable to look after her minor children while being in judicial custody.
The trial will take considerable time, and therefore, during the pendency of the trial, the applicant be released on bail to take care of her minor sons or, in the alternative, the applicant be granted interim bail for 90 days, the counsel prayed.
Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) and Advocate Bahuli Sharma, counsel for the prosecutrix, opposed the plea of the accused.
The APP contended that the charges have already been framed and the trial is at the stage of prosecution evidence. He further submitted that there is high apprehension that the applicant may again try to jump bail if released on interim bail. (ANI)

Flash floods in Himachal: Death toll jumps to six in Kangra as hunt on across the state to find the missing
With the discovery of another body on Friday, the death toll from flash floods at Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh rose to six. All the six victims have been recovered from the Priyadarshi Hydroelectric Project at Manuni Khad in Khanyara Dharamshala, Kangra. Three workers of the hydro project are still missing. The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) Himachal Pradesh informed that a total 33 people were dead and 66 were injured with a loss of properties, including private and public, worth Rs 29.16 crore was reported during the southwest and pre-monsoon rain between June 20 and June 27 in the state. The SEOC officials maintained that the dead and injured included victims of road accidents, drownings and other mishaps during the rain. Meanwhile, kin of the victims were given Rs 1.25 crore ex gratia relief so far. In 2024, a total 70 people died and the state experienced a financial loss of approximately Rs 1,363 crore during the monsoon 2024 between June 27 and October 2 in the state. A total of 54 incidents of cloudburst and flash flood incidents were reported where 65 people got killed out of which 33 are still missing. Besides this, a total of 47 incidents of landslides also occurred wherein five people lost their lives. During 2024, the monsoon was active during the period from June 27 to October 2 and the state received a total rainfall of 600.9 mm, which is about 18 per cent less than the normal. 4 more held in multi-crore bank scam across 11 states
Meerut: Four more people — Naval Saini, Ankit Saini, Yogesh Saini, and David Gautam — were arrested by the Bulandshahr cybercrime police on Thursday in the multi-crore cyber fraud case spanning 11 states, involving the siphoning of funds from dormant bank accounts. This takes the total number of arrests to eight. The fraud came to light in April after Mohd Aslam, a daily wager from Bulandshahr, discovered transactions worth Rs 1.95 crore from his Bandhan Bank account, inactive since Dec 2022. He approached police after a cyber team from Haryana visited his home in connection with a complaint registered in another state. A case was filed on May 18 under BNS Section 318(4) (cheating) and Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act. Police found the account had been reactivated using a different mobile number and used for large-value transactions. Police later found it was linked to cyber fraud complaints filed in 11 states. SP (Crime) Naresh Kumar said the accused also paid villagers Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 in exchange for their passbooks and cheque books, promising returns from gaming apps. Most villagers were unaware their accounts would be used for cyber fraud. During interrogation, David Gautam disclosed that Rs 1.4 crore had recently been funneled through five bank accounts. Police have identified 50 such accounts so far, with more likely as the probe continues. David also revealed that the gang operated under the instructions of two individuals—"Manish" and "Jagga"—who remain unidentified and never met any of the operatives directly. "The network spans at least 11 states. We're tracing the money trail to identify the end beneficiaries," said SP Kumar. "Our focus now is on identifying the actual account holders and tracking down Manish and Jagga to uncover the full extent of the fraud."

BJP MLA Bamb alleges Rs 4.7-cr irregularities in ZP works in Gangapur
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: BJP MLA Prashant Bamb, who represents the Gangapur assembly constituency, on Friday accused officials from the Zilla Parishad's construction and finance departments of being involved in financial irregularities worth Rs 4.7 crore in govt-funded development works. The MLA alleged that bills were raised for road and school building works that were either incomplete or never started on the ground. He demanded registration of FIRs against all govt officials involved in the alleged siphoning of development funds. Bamb, in the morning, reached out to ZP CEO Ankit and made a representation, while expressing serious displeasure over turning a blind eye to his complaint against the alleged irregularities. Later, he addressed the press and alleged that records showed completion of eight road projects and several school buildings across the Gangapur-Khultabad constituency. "On site, many of these works haven't even begun. In some cases, bills for entire work amounts were cleared without executing a single rupee worth of work," he alleged. The MLA shared documents, GPS-tagged site photos and other material to substantiate his claims and said said important documents like GPS photos, site measurements, vouchers and asphalt invoices were not verified before approving payments. Bamb said certain officers were now attempting to dispose of properties in a bid to destroy evidence. "This matter involves senior ZP officials. I will pursue this in court," he said, adding that bills for school compound walls were passed using old photographs. "I repeatedly complained to the then ZP CEO about these issues, but no action was taken," Bamb alleged. In response, ZP executive engineer (construction) Sukhadev Kakad said, "An inquiry is already under way into the complaints. A report will be submitted within eight days. Our department randomly checks 5% of the works. If any errors occurred inadvertently, we accept that."
