Delhi HC grants 90-day interim bail to woman accused in POCSO case to care for her newborn
Justice Renu Bhatnagar granted interim bail to the accused Kushi after considering the facts that charges have been framed and the case is at the stage of prosecution evidence.
'The applicant is unable to properly take care of her new born child while being in judicial custody, the applicant is granted interim bail for a period of 90 days from the date of her release, on furnishing a personal bond in sum of Rs. 25,000 with one surety in the like amount,' Justice Bhatnagar ordered on June 25.
The applicant was re-arrested on December 12, 2024. Earlier, she was granted regular bail by the trial court, but a non-bailable warrant was issued against her on September 24, 2024, due to her non-appearance before the court. Thereafter, she was declared a proclaimed offender. She was sent to judicial custody after her re-arrest. She gave birth to a child on May 12, 2025.
While granting interim bail, the High Court also considered the medical report, which stated that the applicant, along with her two children, is currently lodged in Central Jail No. 6 of Tihar Jail complex. The medical status report states that at the time of her admission to jail, she was pregnant and delivered a child on 12.05.2025.
Advocate Indrapal Khokhar, counsel for the accused, submitted that the applicant has two minor children; one aged around two years and the other is a newborn, while being in judicial custody.
He further submitted that the applicant is unable to look after her minor children while being in judicial custody.
The trial will take considerable time, and therefore, during the pendency of the trial, the applicant be released on bail to take care of her minor sons or, in the alternative, the applicant be granted interim bail for 90 days, the counsel prayed.
Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) and Advocate Bahuli Sharma, counsel for the prosecutrix, opposed the plea of the accused.
The APP contended that the charges have already been framed and the trial is at the stage of prosecution evidence. He further submitted that there is high apprehension that the applicant may again try to jump bail if released on interim bail. (ANI)

ED searches DMK minister Periyasamy's residences
CHENNAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the houses, business premises and even the MLA hostel rooms of the state rural development minister I Periyasamy and his family members, including his son, IP Senthilkumar MLA, in Chennai and Dindigul, their hometown. City police acknowledged the receipt of the complaint by issuing a community service receipt (CSR). Sources said authorities locked the minister's cabin in the Secretariat in anticipation that ED teams might land there too, but ED sleuths stopped with the residence and the MLA hostel. Simultaneous searches happened in three places in Dindigul: the minister's residence in Durairaj Nagar, Senthilkumar's residence at Vallalar Nagar, and the minister's daughter Indra's residence at Seelapadi. After the information about the raids spread, DMK cadres gathered in front of the houses in large numbers. While the CRPF personnel guarded the premises, state police personnel were deployed in the localities concerned to maintain the law and order situation. 'The central govt is using the Income Tax and Enforcement Departments to intimidate its opponents and stifle the voice. That is why the raid is being carried out at the house of Periyasamy. This is strongly condemnable,' he said. It may be noted that the Madras high court had recently reversed the order of the Dindigul trial court, which relieved the DMK leader and his family members in the Rs 2 crore disproportionate assets case. The case pertains to the accumulation of assets to the tune of Rs 2 crore between 2006 and 2010 when Periyasamy was the housing minister. While DVAC filed a chargesheet against Periyasamy, his wife Suseela, and sons Senthilkumar and Prabhu, the ED also registered a money-laundering case based on the DVAC FIR and interrogated Periyasamy in 2022. However, the Dindigul trial court acquitted all of them from the case. But the Madras high court set aside the trial court order in April and ordered a fresh trial.

1 arrested on charge of 8-year-old tribal girl's rape in Dhule
Nashik: The police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl on Friday in a village in Shirpur, Dhule district. Dhule's deputy SP Sunil Gosavi said, "The accused man was produced in a court in Dhule on Saturday. The court remanded him in five-day police custody." The incident occurred at around noon on Friday. The accused man and the victim lived in the same neighbourhood. At 11am, the accused allegedly visited the girl's house and lured her with a bike ride around the village. He took her to a deserted spot where he raped her. About an hour later, he dropped her back near the locality and fled. The girl returned home crying and informed her parents about the incident. As the news spread, residents ransacked an eatery belonging to the accused man's uncle and contacted the police. The police reached the incident spot and began searching for the accused. Gosavi said the accused man escaped into the adjoining forest area but was apprehended within a couple of hours. A case against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered late on Friday night. 1.2L bridal wear goes missing during ‘delivery'
Kolkata: A bridal outfit, valued at Rs 1.2 lakh, which was entrusted to a popular ride-hailing and delivery service for transportation, has gone missing. All attempts to contact the assigned delivery agent went futile after he switched off his cellphone and kept it that way for over six hours. Chirag Palriwala, CEO of a fashion firm in Salt Lake, which specialises in bridal wear, lodged a complaint at the Bidhannagar South Police Station. According to the complaint, the bridal outfit was slated for delivery on June 28 but never reached its destination.
