Ponting On Replacing Kohli And Rohit In Tests: 'If Any Country Can Do It...'
Last Updated: Ricky Ponting opened up on the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, praising India's young talents who can take their place. Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting opened up on how the team will navigate the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Team India is preparing for their five-match Test series in England, commencing on June 24 at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium. The team will be without the experienced Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have both retired from Test cricket, as new captain Shubman Gill aims to lead the team into a new chapter. Ponting acknowledged the difficulty of replacing the seasoned Rohit and Kohli in the Test arena but expressed confidence in India's ability to do so, given their abundance of talented players. 'It's always very difficult to replace players like that who have been around for so long and have played so much Test cricket. But if any country can do it quickly, it's India because of the young talent they have," Ponting was quoted as saying by The ICC Review. 'I've seen it firsthand over the last 10 years in the IPL, and we've witnessed the emergence of players like (Yashasvi) Jaiswal who have transitioned to international cricket with India and performed well almost immediately. 'While replacing the skill is one aspect, which I believe India can do relatively easily, the experience is the key element that will be missing. Even with a young captain like Shubman Gill, they will still have some experienced players like KL Rahul and Bumrah around. 'In a rebuilding phase, I think India can handle it better than most other teams," Ponting added. 'Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are seasoned players who have secured many victories for us. It is always challenging to replace such talent, but our team has a good blend of youth and experience," Gill stated at the pre-departure press conference. 'This situation does not add extra pressure because our team is always ready to handle stress and knows how to win in such circumstances," Gill added.

Sachin Tendulkar instantly becomes the star attraction on entering Aamir Khan's house; visitors scream 'Sachin, Sachin'
Sachin Tendulkar and his wife, Anjali, recently visited Aamir Khan's home during the premiere of the actor's latest film, 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. The cricket icon instantly drew the attention of every guest present. As soon as he stepped in, murmurs turned into roars, and the atmosphere transformed. The room burst into the familiar, spine-tingling 'Sachin, Sachin' chant, a sound that once echoed through stadiums across the world and now rang loudly in the heart of Bollywood. Tendulkar, ever the gracious legend, responded with his trademark smile, acknowledging the guests with warmth and humility. He thanked those present for their love and unwavering support. Tendulkar and Aamir share a particularly close relationship. Over the years, the two icons, from entirely different worlds, have often spoken about their appreciation for each other's craft. Whether it's attending film premieres or cricket matches, their appearances together frequently draw attention. The actor also invited Tendulkar to a special screening of the movie Loveyaapa in February earlier this year, which featured Aamir's son Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor. Tendulkar was most recently a part of the Mumbai Indians' dugout as the side reached the playoffs of IPL 2025 under Hardik Pandya's captaincy. However, MI lost in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings. While Tendulkar has stayed away from broadcasting for a long time, he is among the most active voices on Indian cricket on social media platforms. Earlier, it was reported that India and England will contest a newly named trophy when they face off in the upcoming five-match Test series in the UK, the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, honouring two of the game's greatest legends. According to a report by the BBC, the new trophy will be unveiled ahead of the series opener at Headingley on June 20. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), however, has not issued an official comment on the development. One of the game's all-time greats, Tendulkar remains the leading run-scorer in Test history with 15,921. The 52-year-old played 200 Tests between 1989 and 2013 and holds innumerable records across the two formats of Test and ODI. Anderson is both England's all-time leading wicket-taker and the most successful pace bowler in Test cricket with 704 wickets.

‘This kid is a superstar': Michael Clarke backs Sai Sudharsan's Test debut at No 3 for India vs England
With India embracing a Test transition from the forthcoming five-match series in England onwards, former Australia captain Michael Clarke has made his pick for India's key No. 3 position as skipper Shubman Gill is slated to take over the No. 4 position vacated after Virat Kohli's retirement. Clarke has picked Tamil Nadu sensation Sai Sudharsan to be drafted directly to take over the slot when Gill slides one spot down from No. 3 starting June 20 in Headingley. 'To me, this kid is a superstar, Sai Sudharsan. I think he is a number three in Test cricket. I think he is probably going to open the batting in time in India's T20I and ODI team. He is in their Test squad. He gets his first opportunity in England,' Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket podcast. The left-handed Sudharsan had a dream IPL season with the Gujarat Titans. Outscoring his captain Gill, Sudharsan topped the batting charts in the league, winning the Orange Cap after slamming 759 runs in 15 matches. Averaging 54.21 with a strike rate of 156.17, Sudharsan notched up a century and six fifties as the Titans finished fourth in the Playoffs. Despite holding a sub-40 average in First-Class cricket, Clarka has backed Sudharsan to fit in well at number three for India. 'I think he can walk in straight to bat at number three. I think technically he's very good, he's got all the shots and mentally, he's ready. He really impressed me and he's a good looking player as well,' Clarke said. Sudharsan won the Emerging Player of the Season award in the IPL 2025 edition and has previously appeared in two County stints with Surrey between 2023-24. In his last outing for the side, Sudharsan cracked his maiden First-Class century in English conditons while batting at No. 6. Overall, the 23-year-old averages 39.93 for 1957 runs in 29 FC outings since his debut in 2022
