IND vs ENG: India coach Gautam Gambhir provides update on pacers' fitness and availability for series decider at The Oval

Manchester:
It's been over 50 days since the Indian team arrived here in England, and
Jasprit Bumrah
's workload has been the focal point of India's planning ahead of each Test. As India's batters were pulling off a fighting draw at Old Trafford,
Bumrah
's availability for the last Test — starting at Oval in London on Thursday — again became a point of discussion.
At the start of the tour, head coach
Gautam Gambhir
had confirmed that the team management had planned to play Bumrah in only three of the five Tests. India go to London 1-2 down in the series, and Bumrah has already played his quota of three Tests. It's a tricky situation for both Bumrah and the team management. Will the team deviate from the three-Test plan regarding Bumrah's availability, since now there is a big opportunity to come out of the gruelling series with a 2-2 scoreline?

'There has been no talk about it (Bumrah playing at the Oval).
And no such decision has been made on whether Bumrah (will) play in the last Test. Ultimately, whoever plays, they'll try and do the job for the country,' Gambhir said after the fourth Test.
Bumrah's susceptibility to breaking down in the middle of a Test has given the caretakers of Indian cricket sleepless nights. The Indian cricket board (BCCI) doesn't want a repeat of the incident in the Sydney Test at the beginning of the year.
In Australia, the medical team working on Bumrah believed that his long and intense spell in the Test in Melbourne may have triggered the back injury in Sydney. TOI understands that Bumrah is now advised to bowl 45–50 overs maximum per Test.
Bumrah bowled just 33 overs in the last Test in Manchester. This was after an eight-day break after the third Test at Lord's. TOI has learnt there have been murmurs in BCCI corridors around Bumrah's pick-and-choose policy in Test cricket.
He was not given the Test captaincy only because he would not be available for every Test.
The BCCI is not comfortable with the selectors and the team management going into a series without knowing if Bumrah will be available for the entire series. It is being considered whether he should make himself available for an entire series, or not at all. Sources said that when the fourth Test began with Bumrah in the XI, it was almost certain that he will give the Oval Test a miss.
'All the fast bowlers are there. There is no injury scare,' was Gambhir's curt reply to a query around the fitness of the pace attack.
Gambhir asserted that he doesn't prefer the term 'transition' while discussing the Test team playing in England. He believes this team may be inexperienced, but it's the best team that India have. He doesn't like to hide behind the words 'transition' and 'inexperience'. 'You're asking someone who only believes in results.
And I've always said that in the past as well, I believe in results. Yes, there is inexperience, but this is still the best Indian team right now.
We're still down 1-2. Hopefully, we can try and make it 2-2. That's going to be a great achievement,' Gambhir said.
Poll
Is the decision to limit Bumrah's Tests to three justified?
Yes, to manage his workload
No, he should play all Tests
It's a tough call
It will be interesting to see if India risk Bumrah. His speed, after all, had come down significantly on the third evening of the third Test, where he returned figures of 2/112, his poorest show in his seven-year-long Test career.
India's only win has come when Bumrah opted to sit out of the second Test at Edgbaston. It's not that the Indian bowling can't hold its own without him.

He added that he was a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar – so much so that he would get nervous watching the master blaster bat. Despite running one of the world's largest tech companies, Pichai said that he still finds time to follow the game. 'I catch highlights. I listen to you on Cricbuzz, and I follow podcasts and commentary on YouTube,' the Google CEO told Harsha Bhogle. Pichai has himself been to a part of cricket history — he revealed that the first ever game he'd seen live was the 1986 tied test in Chennai between India and Australia. 'The first game I ever saw live was the Chennai tied test,' he said. 'I was there on the last day, and randomly saw one of the two ever tests in the history of the game that were tied. That's what got me hooked to cricket,' he said. Sundar Pichai on Washington Sundar While Pichai was on air, Washington Sundar was batting, which led to a light moment. 'They call me 'California Sundar' to disambiguate,' Pichai joked, referring to how Google Australia teams distinguish between him and the cricketer after Sundar's 2021 heroics in Australia. Bhogle complimented Pichai's ease in the commentary box, especially his habit of pausing while the ball was being bowled. 'I'm sitting next to the best,' Pichai replied. Commenting on the series, Pichai said, 'What a series it's been. Loved the fight between both teams. At this point, I'd put money on a 2-2,' backing India to win the final match.

Who Will Lead CSK In IPL 2026? MS Dhoni Reveals, Its Not Him

As speculation continues around who will lead Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, MS Dhoni has dropped a major hint by confirming Ruturaj Gaikwad's return and outlining the team's roadmap. While not directly addressing the captaincy, Dhoni's praise for Gaikwad and remarks about CSK's batting order suggest that the young opener could have a key leadership role in the upcoming season. He also shared his thoughts on the team's recent struggles and admitted that the franchise is 'slightly worried' about their batting going into the next IPL season. Speaking at a private event, Dhoni acknowledged the importance of having a stable batting lineup and confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will return to the squad after missing the latter half of the previous season due to an elbow injury. 'We are slightly worried about our batting order. But I think our batting order is quite sorted out now. Rutu (Gaikwad) will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now,' Dhoni said, hinting at CSK's plans to retain the young opener. The former Indian captain also addressed the upcoming mini-auction scheduled for December, suggesting that the franchise will look to reinforce specific areas. 'I won't say we (CSK) slacked off (in IPL 2025). But there were certain holes that we needed to plug in. A small auction is coming in December. Some loopholes are there, and we will try to plug those in,' he added. Dhoni was candid about the team's underwhelming performance over the past two seasons. He emphasized the importance of identifying weaknesses and taking corrective measures to move forward. 'Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also. 'We were like, okay, there are some shortcomings. But first we needed to exactly figure out what were the shortcomings and then look at solutions,' he said. Dhoni concluded by expressing gratitude to the CSK fans and reflected on the team's long-standing success. 'I feel more often than not we have been able to figure out what exactly went wrong. In sports, you know you can have a very good time and at the same time there will be periods when you won't be performing well. In CSK, more often than not, we are on the higher side. 'So, we do talk about the processes. But at the same time we do want the result to come to our side. Last year it (result) wasn't there. But looking ahead, we will try to sort out most of the things and we will hopefully be at our best,' he concluded.
