150 arrested, mastermind identified in Assam's Dhubri communal disturbances
Sarma visited Dhubri for the second time in 10 days and reviewed the law and order situation following communal tension in the district after the Eid-ul-Zuha festival.
He said that the state government was also exploring the option of setting up a permanent base of the Indian Army to strengthen the security apparatus in this sensitive district.
Sarma said that over 150 "anti-socials", including 11 from outside the state who had cases pending against them, have been arrested since June 13.
"Our zero-tolerance approach along with apprehending 150 anti-social elements is working but we are not lowering our guard against communal forces," he said.
The mastermind involved in throwing body parts of a cow in front of the temple has also been identified, Sarma said.
"The mastermind has been identified as Mintu Ali. He is currently absconding and he should surrender soon," he added.

Drive to clear 175 bighas of grazing land begins in Biswanath
1 2 Guwahati: An eviction drive began in Assam's Biswanath district on Sunday to clear 175 bighas of Village Grazing Land (VGR), which had been encroached by over 300 families, officials said. A senior official from the district administration said the land in question was located at Japariguri village in Biswanath, before adding that the drive has been proceeding peacefully, so far. The officer further said notices were served to the families on August 1 to vacate the areas within 15 days, which they have already done. Moreover, the officer mentioned that a few of the families dismantled their houses and took away the roof tin sheets along with their belongings. "The remaining houses have been demolished amid tight security deployment," the officer said, adding that about 600 police and CRPF personnel were deployed for the drive. Earlier, during his Independence Day speech, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said "aggression" had changed the demography of lower and central Assam, and now similar efforts were being made in upper and north Assam as well. However, the counsels of the appellants, as well as the state, requested the court to re-notify the hearing, and accordingly, the court has listed the matter for hearing on Monday. During the hearing of the appeal, Advocate General D Saikia submitted before the court that approximately 29 lakh bighas of land in reserved forests across Assam have been affected by encroachments, and that the state's ongoing eviction drive has already cleared over 1 lakh bighas. Gogoi, CM engage in battle of words
Guwahati: War of words between Congress' Assam president Gaurav Gogoi and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is gaining momentum ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. Participating in an election rally at Koklabari, Gogoi said Congress wants to give scholarships to the children of the state, but Sarma wants to lift guns and patronise violence.
