Rani opens up about growing up in a financially struggling family. There was a time when we didn't even have a clock at home to check the time.
Her father was a cart-puller and the only earning member of the family.
For young Rani, life wasn't about luxuries; it was about survival.
'Today, when I wake up on my own terms, decide what to eat, and spend my money the way I want, that freedom is real success,' she says.
But how did hockey come into the picture? Rani reveals a hard truth about Indian sports: 'We love sports because of passion, yes. But for most athletes like me, the biggest reason is financial security – to get a job and support our families.'

Her journey wasn't easy. She remembers a coach once telling her mentor, 'This girl can never play for India.' Today, she smiles as she recalls that moment: 'I feel proud that I proved them wrong.'
Rani also shares a deeply personal motivation – breaking gender stereotypes. 'When I was born, no one celebrated. I was the third girl in the family. I wanted to show that girls can change lives – their own and their families'.'
From struggling to buy her mother a gas stove to leading India at the Tokyo Olympics and standing on the Padma Shri stage, Rani Rampal is living proof that dreams, no matter how distant, can come true.

The decision reportedly was taken with an eye on the long-term fitness of the 31-year-old pacer. India head coach Gautam Gambhir had announced even before leaving for England that Bumrah would only play three out of the five Test matches. However, it was felt that the senior pacer may feature in his fourth match of the series at The Oval as India are still trailing 2-1 in the series. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Conflicting signs emerge over Bumrah's availability But a report in the ESPNCricinfo on Tuesday has stated that Bumrah will not play in the final Test match. The BCCI medical team wants to carefully manage Bumrah's workload as he recently had a back surgery. The decision not to play Bumrah in the must-win match was taken in consultation with the pacer, the team management and the selectors. It has to be noted that Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had only confirmed on Tuesday that Bumrah was fit to 'Bumrah is fit now according to his load. He bowled one inning in the last match. So obviously the head coach, our physio and captain will have a discussion and decide. There has been no discussion,' Kotak said in a press conference on Tuesday. Meanwhile, The Times of India reports that Arshdeep Singh is set to make his Test debut in the final Test. He could be replacing Anshul Kamboj, who had a poor debut in the fourth Test at Manchester. With Arshdeep's inclusion, India will be able to add the variety of a left-arm pacer to their attack. Bumrah is expected to make way for Akash Deep, who missed the fourth Test after suffering a back issue during the third Test match at Lord's. So far, Bumrah had missed only one match, the second Test at Edgbaston, which India won by 336 runs.

Photo With McCullum Sparks Accusations of Hypocrisy Just hours after the confrontation, a 2023 Ashes photo surfaced showing Fortis standing on the pitch with England head coach Brendon McCullum just 48 hours before a Test match—under similar conditions. The image, widely circulated on social media, led to accusations of 'double standards' and partial treatment. Former India opener Aakash Chopra posted the viral image with a scathing caption: 'Why are you looking at this pitch, brother? You stay 25 metres away. This is what the groundsman said to Gambhir. And yet, here's the same curator on the pitch with McCullum. Different rules for different people?' India Chooses Diplomacy Over Protest Despite the high-profile spat, India has chosen not to lodge an official complaint with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Kotak explained the rationale, stating, 'It's okay to be protective about the pitch, but not to this extent. Gautam just reacted like any head coach would when someone talks down to their team.' He also revealed that members of the squad had prior concerns about Fortis' attitude. 'We'd heard before this game that he isn't the easiest person to deal with.' Satwik-Chirag return to top 10 in BWF rankings
New Delhi: India's dynamic men's doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty returned to the top 10 of the BWF rankings, climbing three spots to reclaim the ninth spot. The Indian duo, who had previously held the No. 1 ranking, rose up the ladder following their semifinal finish at the China Open, the season's last Super 1000 badminton tournament.
