Ahead of England women playing Spain in the UEFA Women's Euro finals tonight (July 27) Chadha spoke of how the film had a hand in getting the ball rolling for women's football and why now is the perfect time to work on a sequel.
Chadha told reporters, "I mean we've been part of changing the game for women, so it felt like this is a good time for me to go back and investigate the characters, and what would they be doing 25 years later?"

That's the verdict of former Wales striker Nathan Blake, who insists Phil Parkinson's men are 'nailed on' for a top-six berth after promotion from League One. Ex-Premier League marksman Blake reckons Wrexham, who kick-off away to Southampton next Saturday, will leave Swansea and Cardiff behind. He says the Swans don't spend enough on players and the 'culture' at the Bluebirds is 'a nightmare'. In a new podcast being produced with the support of the University of South Wales' media and journalism courses, Rob and Blakey's Commentary Box, with former BBC Wales football correspondent Rob Phillips, Blake said: 'I think (Wrexham) are nailed on for top six and I said that before they made some of their signings. 'I think they will carry on doing what they've been doing for the last three or four seasons. Article continues below 'People may laugh, but I can see Wrexham in the Premier League, if not at the end of this season, then within the next two to three seasons. Definitely.' Under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Dragons have risen from non-league to the Championship with a historic three successive promotions. They've spent a reported £13m on players this summer, the latest recruit coming in the shape of ex-England defender Conor Coady. Blake added: 'They keep making good decisions and that's how they've got to where they are. 'They've made a statement of intent (this summer), saying 'we're here and we're going to have a proper go'.' Blake is less positive about the Championship prospects of Swansea City, despite recent excitement around the backing of Real Madrid legend Luka Modric and rap mogul Snoop Dogg. 'If you have ambitions to get back to the Premier League - and Swansea should have because they had seven great seasons there - then in this day and age £5m is not a lot of money," he said. 'If you're in the Championship and you're not prepared to spend £5m on an individual player then it won't be long before the trap door opens and you'll get sucked down into the bottom half.' Cardiff, who won their first League One fixture 2-1 at home to Peterborough on Saturday, begin the season back in the third tier for the first time in 23 years after relegation last May. Speculation about a club takeover fronted by homegrown superstar Gareth Bale has been rife all summer but, as yet, has gone nowhere. Blake believes there is substance to Bale's plans – and that a change in ownership is desperately needed. He added: 'Do you honestly think 'Superman' (Bale) would put his neck on the block, come out and say what he has said publicly, without having proof of funds? 'Think about that, Gareth Bale, arguably Wales' greatest ever player. Is he really going to stand at the front of a consortium and say things that aren't true?' Any concrete progress would be welcome, Blake insists. 'After the first two or three seasons (of the current regime) I just think it's all been a bit of a nightmare," he added. 'There's been a cloud over the club under this ownership. 'Once you start to change colours, badges…you've dishonoured the club basically, turned your fans against you. 'There is this culture in the club which I said was there two or three years ago. 'I said then they were going to go down, that it was on its way. 'If you have players who can't fight, who don't want to fight, and you keep changing your manager….. 'The whole cycle of Cardiff City is just a whirlwind. Daniel Levy on The Overlap podcast: ‘When I'm not here I'll get the credit from Spurs fans'
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has predicted he will only earn credit from the club's often-critical supporters once he has left his position. The assertion comes amid persistent fan discontent, largely stemming from a notable lack of silverware during his lengthy tenure. Supporters frequently cite the club's failure to capitalise on promising Premier League title challenges in 2016 and 2017, alongside their run to the 2019 Champions League final, as key grievances. Last season proved particularly challenging, with the club recording a record-low 17th-place finish in the Premier League era. However, this domestic disappointment was partially offset by a victory in the Europa League final, marking Tottenham's first trophy success since 2008. Despite the team's struggles, former head coach Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked days after the win over Manchester United in Bilbao, largely avoided the brunt of the fan anger. Instead, the chairman became the primary target of supporters' frustration over the club's perceived regression. 'I think it's one of those situations (in which) when I'm not here I'm sure I'll get the credit,' Levy told Gary Neville 's The Overlap podcast. 'When you come here and look at this wonderful (stadium), and the fact that other clubs are now trying to copy what we're doing, that should be a sign that maybe we did do something bold, and something right.' Spurs moved in to their 60,000-capacity stadium, built on the former site of White Hart Lane, in 2019 and it quickly acquired a reputation as one of the best sports venues in Europe, regularly hosting NFL fixtures as well as large-scale music and other events. Yet frustration remains with the team's failure to mount a credible challenge for the Premier League and Champions League, though Levy admitted he was at a loss to explain the lack of success. 'Nothing has changed in terms of our ambition,' said Levy. 'Having won the Europa League – thank you to Ange – you get a taste of it, but it's not enough. It's never been enough. 'We've been in 16 or 17 semi-finals, seven finals, and we haven't won enough. We know need to use that as a springboard to keep winning. We've won two trophies in the last 20-plus years. We've been so close, so many times. 'I can't really answer (why), because I'm not the one that picks the team, motivates the team.' Former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, who was appointed to replace Postecoglou in June, will take charge of his first competitive match when Spurs begin the new season at home to Burnley on August 16. He will do so without stalwart forward Son Heung-min, who has announced he will leave the club this summer and was given an emotional send-off in Sunday's friendly against Newcastle in his native South Korea. After last season's dismal league campaign, Levy encouraged fans not to heap excessive expectation on their new boss. 'He gets the style of football we want to play,' he said. 'He understands that Rome wasn't built in a day. We haven't set him, 'You've got to win the league this year'. We just want to compete at the highest level. 'We will support him to the best of our ability. If you look at transfer fees, we've been in the top four spenders since the stadium opened, we've spent close to £700million net on new players.'

Chris Woakes plays with dislocated shoulder in tense England-India finale
Chris Woakes made a heroic appearance with his dislocated shoulder in a sling as England and India took their five-match series to the wire at The Oval. Woakes, who has not featured since badly damaging his left shoulder while fielding on Friday, was ruled out of the game the next morning but has remained with the team and was willing to bat at No 11. 'Apparently Chris Woakes went for a hit yesterday to see what he can and can't do,' Alastair Cook said on BBC Radio 5 Live. 'He is batting one handed.' Phil Tuffnell added: 'As Indian bowlers you go at Chris Woakes. You go for the throat. If you cross the white line you're in the field of play.' After play ended early on Sunday evening, Joe Root had said of Woakes: 'He's all in, like the rest of us. Clearly, he's in a huge amount of pain. But it means a huge amount to him and it just shows the character and the person that he is, that he's willing to put his body on the line like that for England.'
