Religious content in Hindi alphabet charts at school sparks row; probe ordered
They said Baby Convent School principal IA Qureshi allegedly handed Hindi alphabet charts mentioning 'Ka' for Kaba, 'Ma' for Masjid and 'Na' for Namaz to students.
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad staged a protest on Friday and gheraoed Qureshi.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pratibha Sharma said police personnel brought the situation under control.
'The matter is related to the education department and referred to the district education officer (DEO)," Sharma said.
DEO D D Rajak said an investigation is being conducted into the allegations.
'As per the Education department's guidelines, study material containing religious symbols of any particular faith cannot be taught in schools," he added.
Principal Qureshi admitted her 'inadvertent" mistake, stating that one or two such books with mixed Urdu-Hindi multiplication tables had reached students.
She claimed the charts of alphabets were sourced from Bhopal and, due to the seller's error, three to four such items, generally used in madrasas, were included. PTI COR LAL NSK

In a fresh threat to India, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the "enemy" would not be allowed to snatch 'even one drop' of water belonging to Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly cautioned that any attempt to block the water flow would be considered an act of war. "I want to tell the enemy today that if you threaten to hold our water, then keep this in mind that you cannot snatch even one drop of Pakistan,' news agency PTI quoted Shehbaz Sharif as saying at a ceremony in Islamabad. The Pakistani prime minister also warned that if India attempted such an act, 'you will be again taught such a lesson that you will be left holding your ears.' There was no immediate comment from India on Shehbaz Sharif's threat. Sharif's statement comes a day after former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari made similar comments, terming the Indus Waters Treaty's suspension an attack on the Indus Valley Civilisation and said Pakistan would not back down if India forced it into war. Actor-turned-Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mithun Chakraborty on Tuesday reacted sharply to the Pakistan People's Party chairman's comment and warned that India will respond with a series of Brahmos missiles. His fiery retort was also accompanied by a bizarre one: a dam will be built, and 140 crore Indians will relieve themselves there before that reservoir will be opened to unleash a tsunami in the neighbouring nation. Chakraborty, however, emphasised that he had nothing against the ordinary people of Pakistan who are peace-loving and do not want war and that his ire was directed only at the Pakistani establishment. Meanwhile, in an address to the Pakistani diaspora in Tampa, Florida, Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir reportedly said Islamabad would destroy any dam if it cut off water flow to Pakistan. "We will wait for India to build a dam, and when they do so, we will destroy it,' Asim Munir was quoted as saying by the Dawn newspaper. 'The Indus River is not the Indians' family property. We have no shortage of resources to undo the Indian designs to stop the river," he added. Hitting back, the ministry of external affairs said on Monday that Munir's fresh nuclear threat against India reinforced the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in that country, where the military is "hand-in-glove" with terrorist groups and New Delhi will not give in to any nuclear blackmail. Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's 'stock-in-trade', the MEA said, adding that India will continue to take all steps necessary to safeguard its national security. In an apparent message to the US, the ministry said it is also regrettable that these remarks were made from the soil of a 'friendly third country'. India carried out Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. Home guard found to be booked in 6 cases at police station where he served for 22 years
VARANASI A home guard posted at Mubarakpur police station in Azamgarh for over two decades has been found facing eight serious criminal cases, including charges under the NDPS Act, Pocso Act, rape and theft, police said on Tuesday. In 2003, the first case was registered against him under the NDPS Act for allegedly possessing a large quantity of diazepam tablets and 'intoxicated laddoos'. (Pic for representation) Nirankar Ram, a native of Azamgarh's Damodarpur village, was appointed to the home guards department in 2001 and allegedly embarked on a crime spree soon after. He was found to have been booked in six cases at the very police station where he had been serving for the past 22 years, an officer said. According to the police, six cases related to alleged smuggling of marijuana were registered against Nirankar Ram. In 2003, the first case was registered against him under the NDPS Act for allegedly possessing a large quantity of diazepam tablets and 'intoxicated laddoos'. Between 2003 and 2017, he was booked in eight cases, including theft and sexual assault. Since his suspension a month ago, Nirankar Ram is not engaged in any kind of duty, the police clarified, after a section of social media reported that he was on the job. 'There's a news from a social media platform in which it has been said that home guard Nirankar Ram, a resident of Damodarpur in Azamgarh, is posted at Mubarakpur police station and is doing duty there,' said SP (city) Madhuban Singh. 'Many cases are registered against him. Earlier, information was received about this home guard's activities, after which a detailed report was sent by the Mubarakpur police station to the home guard commandant. Based on that, the commandant suspended the home guard. For the last one month, Nirankar Ram is not on any kind of duty. Further action is being taken against him,' he added. Inputs from PTI

14-Year-Old Raped, Killed By Cousin Hours After Tying Rakhi To Him, Body Found Hanging
33-year-old man raped and murdered his minor cousin after she tied Rakhi on his wrist. He staged it as suicide, but police found evidence. Rakshabandhan, a festival where a brother promises to protect his sister, was shamed after a cousin allegedly raped and murdered his minor sister hours after she tied Rakhi on his wrist. The disturbing news was reported from Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya. As per the police, after killing the girl, he hung her body from a noose to make it look like suicide. As per a report by NDTV, after celebrating Rakshabandhan on Saturday, 33-year-old Surjeet went back to his home upon consuming a lot of alcohol. He raped the girl while she was asleep and then killed her. As per the police, the girl's father was asleep in the next room but couldn't hear anything. The girl's body was found hanging the next day. After the gruesome killing, Surjeet started misleading the investigation. Police got suspicious when he did not let any other family member answer the questions. As the police reached the murder spot, they were sure it was not a suicide case because there were bloodstains in several places. Her body was sent for a post-mortem, which confirmed rape. NDTV further reported that Surjeet was held and he confessed to the crime during interrogation. PTI report, the police have arrested the 29-year-old relative, the husband of the class 10 student's paternal aunt, under various sections of the BNS and POCSO Act. The police further said, the accused was remanded to judicial custody after a local court rejected his bail application. Police also detained four other accused who also video recorded the rape. As per the girl's complaint, the relative visited their residence on Raksha Bandhan on August 9, and took her to a deserted place where she was gang-raped.
