Steelers' Aaron Rodgers reveals one issue that needs resolving ahead of 2025 season

USA Todaya day ago
Steelers fans have plenty to be excited about for the upcoming 2025 season — but there is still one more "change" four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers is looking to make before his regular-season Steel City debut.
On the final day of Steelers training camp, Rodgers revealed one issue he's still having — adapting to his new helmet, the Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD.
"I don't like it, no," Rodgers told reporters. "I'm trying to change. We're in the process still. It looks like a damn spaceship out there. We got to change it. The face mask doesn't fit the helmet because that's an old face mask, obviously just like I'm old, but we're trying to find the right helmet right now."
CEO Jeremy Erspamer of Certor Sports — the company behind Rodgers' new state-of-the-art helmet — previously told Steelers Wire that he empathizes with veteran players forced to give up their old models, acknowledging Rodgers' claim that he's never been hurt in the previous helmet.
Despite the clear safety of the new model, Rodgers is clearly not comfortable with the switch based on his "spaceship" comments alone. While the situation seems harmless, the last thing the Steelers need is a disgruntled Rodgers suiting up with any distractions weighing on his mind.

What is the biggest remaining position battle for the Minnesota Vikings?

The Vikings have several positions where the water is murky, and they are trying to decipher what is going to happen with it. One of the positions is cornerback, where the team has some new faces thanks to some players getting healthy and others being signed. They brought in Jeff Okudah and Isaiah Rodgers in free agency. They get Mekhi Blackmon back from injury, and with those pieces, they believe their secondary should be in good shape. However, for those on the outside looking in, the position remains one that needs to be solved with all those pieces playing a part. Bleacher Report's Moe Moton broke down each team's biggest positional battle. The Vikings discussed the ongoing CB2 battle. He writes, "Based on preseason Week 1 usage and snap count, the Minnesota Vikings had a clear pecking order for the No. 2 and 3 cornerback spots. Rodgers and Okudah took the field with some starters, and Blackmon saw extended time with most of the backups. . .Coming off a torn ACL, Blackmon may need time to remind everyone of the player who showed promise in the Vikings' secondary two years ago. For now, you can pencil in Rodgers and Okudah at cornerback alongside Byron Murphy Jr." The Vikings' secondary is likely to be an issue early in the season until they find their cohesion. Once they do, and aleader from this group emerges, they should be in good shape. Thankfully, Brian Flores remains their defensive coordinator so his pressure and scheme will make up for a lot of their shortcomings.

Notre Dame rival Michigan finds out its fate from NCAA on ‘sign gate' scandal

While Notre Dame hasn't played Michigan since 2019, they are still viewed as a big rival for the Irish. On Friday, as the season approaches, the NCAA announced the penalty for the Wolverines surrounding its intricate sign stealing accusations as reported by Pete Thamel. Michigan will be on four years probation, a $50,000 fine with 10% of the budget for the football program, a fine that equates to all postseason revenue share, along with another fine of 10% of the costs of scholarships awarded. The total amount of fines could be close to $30 million. There will also be a 25% reduction in official visits during the 2025 and 2026 seasons, and multiple people got show clauses including its former head coach Jim Harbaugh for 10-years, who now is in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers. He previously was given a 4-year show cause penalty in 2024 for a different case. Both Connor Stallions (8-years) and Denard Robinson (3-years) also received show clauses, while current head coach Sherrone Moore got a 2-year show-cause order, and added another game suspension making it 3-games total. The Wolverines picked the games that Moore will not coach, which doesn't make any sense, as they opted for Moore to miss games three and four, while the NCAA added the first game of the 2026 season. He's also not allowed to coach or be with the team during those suspension weeks. It seems like Michigan got off pretty easy on this one, as there was no bowl or College Football Playoff ban, along with not vacating any of their wins during that period. Once again the NCAA has a questionable ruling on a team breaking the rules, one that impacted many during a run where the Wolverines made the CFP twice, winning it in 2024.
