AC Milan close to agreement with Brighton for Pervis Estupinan

New York Times21-07-2025
AC Milan are close to reaching an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for defender Pervis Estupinan after making a second offer for the Ecuadorian.
Brighton want to recoup at least the £15million they paid Villarreal for Estupinan in August 2022 and, while a final fee is still to be agreed, there has been progress in discussions between the clubs.

Estupinan sat out Brighton's 2-0 win over Las Palmas in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Marbella on Monday night, as talks over his exit continued.
Competition for Brighton's starting left-back position has increased this summer, with Maxim De Cuyper arriving from Club Brugge earlier this month for a fee of €20million (£17.3m) plus add-ons, according to sources speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The Belgium international joins Estupinan and Ferdi Kadioglu — who spent the majority of the season sidelined with a toe injury — at the club, while Igor, Tariq Lamptey and Jack Hinshelwood all featured at left-back last season.
Estupinan joined Brighton in August 2022 from Spanish side Villareal for just under £15m and has gone on to make 104 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a fruitful first season on the south coast, appearing in 41 games and recording nine assists as Brighton achieved their best ever Premier League finish of sixth and qualified for the Europa League.
His 2023-24 campaign was heavily disrupted by injuries as he was limited to 28 games in all competitions.
Estupinan played 30 Premier League games in the 2024-25 campaign, starting 26, under head coach Fabian Hurzeler, who replaced Roberto de Zerbi last summer.
Brighton have been active on the incomings front this transfer window. In addition to De Cuyper, centre-backs Olivier Boscagli and Diego Coppola have arrived from PSV Eindhoven and Hellas Verona respectively, while 18-year-old striker Charalampos Kostoulas joined from Olympiacos.
Wingers Yun Do-young and Tommy Watson have also joined after the club agreed deals to sign both players, from Daejeon Hana Citizen and Sunderland respectively, earlier this year.
On July 2, Brighton confirmed the departure of forward Joao Pedro to Chelsea, in a deal worth in excess of £50m.

Newcastle signs Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for reported $53M

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Newcastle bolstered its midfield options ahead of a return to the Champions League by signing midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for a reported $53 million on Sunday. The 24-year-old Ramsey, who came through Villa's academy and made 167 appearances for the club, is Newcastle's fourth signing of a transfer window where most of the focus has been on its star striker, Alexander Isak. Isak has been linked with a move to Liverpool. Newcastle has already signed winger Anthony Elanga, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and defender Malick Thiaw. 'This is a big move for me," Ramsey said, 'but as soon as I knew the gaffer (manager Eddie Howe) was interested and really liked me, it didn't take much time to decide. His track record of developing players, especially those who have gone on to become internationals here, speaks for itself.' Howe said Ramsey's 'qualities will bring us something different on the pitch.' 'He fits the profile of being young and hungry to develop, but also with a wealth of Premier League football under his belt,' Howe said. 'Jacob offers versatility and his directness in attack." ___ AP soccer:

Man United: Ruben Amorim explains Onana's absence against Arsenal

André Onana Before the Premier League showdown between Manchester United and Arsenal, Red Devils coach Ruben Amorim spoke out about André Onana's absence. This Sunday, André Onana is not in the Manchester United squad for their first big clash of the season against Arsenal in the Premier League. The Cameroonian goalkeeper was deemed not quite ready to return to action. Ahead of the encounter with the Gunners, Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim explained his decision to leave Onana out. "He's not injured, he's recovered… but the other players worked well during pre-season, so I have to find a balance. Next week, it'll be a different story. This week, we chose these players." the coach stated. A tactical decision, then.

Liverpool will agree to forward deal if these conditions are met

Liverpool have already offloaded various attacking players this summer - including Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Those two have helped the club rake in more than £100m between them but the indications are that Richard Hughes and Arne Slot won't stop there. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! We could see Ben Doak depart imminently for Bournemouth - with a fee of £25m seemingly agreed between the two parties. Plenty of interest in Koumas Koumas, 19, spent last season on loan at Stoke City - playing almost 50 matches. He has been strongly linked with ANOTHER Championship loan move for the 2025/26 season but no deal has yet materialised. Sheffield United and Norwich City were among the first suitors named for the Welshman, who has already played and scored for the Liverpool first team. Given his nationality, it's perhaps inevitable that Wrexham have been linked with the versatile attacker and it's now been revealed what Liverpool's key demand is for the youngster. The Premier League champions want to ensure that Koumas receives as much game time as possible - according to the latest report in the Wrexham Insider. Wrexham told Koumas conditions 'Norwich City, Derby County, Hull City, and Sheffield United are among those chasing Koumas, but nearly half of the league have shown an interest this summer,' says a report. 'The key to winning this race, it seems, is in assuring Liverpool that Koumas will get regular game time. 'That's thought to be the key factor for the Premier League champions, and they will now assess the various options available to Koumas before making a decision.' © IMAGO Wrexham have got former Liverpool players Danny Ward and Conor Coady on board for the Championship season but have made a poor start to their second-tier campaign. They have lost their opening two fixtures - suffering back-to-back defeats to Southampton and West Brom respectively. Koumas therefore might bring an added attacking impetus for Wrexham as they hope to re-align their season and aim for Premier League promotion at the first time of asking. **🔴 **Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🔴
