His trainer Aidan O'Brien has won the two-and-a-half-mile highlight a record nine times, with four-time winner Yeats and dual hero Kyprios among those to fly the Ballydoyle flag.
Kyprios was expected to bid for a hat-trick this year before suffering a career-ending injury last month, leaving St Leger runner-up Illinois to step into the staying breach.

Trueshan and Jan Brueghel were the only two horses not declared.

Nobel Mendy signs for La Liga club just days after Rangers transfer dramatically collapsed over ‘medical issue'

And Russell Martin has taken another kick in the teeth as one of his previous top targets has signed elsewhere - after Gers' move for him allegedly collapsed due to an issue with his medical. The Real Betis defender even underwent a medical in Barcelona after Gers had reportedly agreed to sign him for £2.5million. But French outlet Foot Mercato then reported that the player would be 'left waiting' to depart Betis after the deal with Rangers collapsed. And Spanish source AS revealed yesterday that it was an issue in the medical which had led to the move being called off. Now, just four days on from the first report that Mendy wouldn't be joining the Ibrox side, he's signed for a new club in Spain. That's as Rayo Vallecano have announced his signing on a year-long loan deal. Vallecano were a surprise package in La Liga last year, finishing eighth and swooping a Conference League spot. Mendy can play both as a centre-back and as a left-back, two positions which have been targeted by Gers in the summer transfer window. They snapped up Martin's former Southampton charge Jayden Meghoma soon after the Mendy deal collapsed, bringing him in on a season-long loan from Brentford. That move likely opens the door for the departures of Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz. Nobel Mendy timeline and what he brings revealed, and Dessers' injury impact The centre-half position is also one that Martin still wants to strengthen, although he's believed to have missed out on another target there in addition to Mendy. Chelsea star deletes references to club on Instagram after Enzo Maresca snub

Wesley Fofana has deleted all reference to Chelsea on his official Instagram account after he was overlooked by Enzo Maresca in the draw with Crystal Palace last weekend. The 24-year-old has struggled for regular playing time at Chelsea due to injuries following his move from Leicester City for an initial £70 million fee three years ago. Fofana did not play a single minute in the 2023-24 campaign due to an ACL injury, while last season he made 14 appearances in the Premier League. The French defender was named on the bench for Chelsea's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace last Sunday but he was left as an unused substitute as the Club World Cup champions were held to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are in the market for a new central defender with Levi Colwill set to miss the majority of the season with an ACL injury. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. Maresca, meanwhile, has made it clear that he does not Fofana as a replacement for Colwill in the central position of his back three. 'He [Fofana] needs to be fit, first of all, and then he can do it,' Maresca said. More Trending 'He played 45 minutes in that position and it was the first half against Bournemouth away if you remember – probably one of the worst halves since we started. 'Benoit [Badiashile] playing in the middle, the Conference League final, first half, we were losing 1-0. Then we changed with Levi and we won 3-1. So it's not the same.' Fofana has now sparked speculation over his future by deleting all reference to Chelsea on his Instagram page and leaving up images of his personal life, as well as his time at Leicester City, Saint-Etienne, and with France's national side. Chelsea are next in action away to West Ham on Friday evening. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
