Heavy Traffic Expected At Checkpoints During Hari Raya Haji Weekend
Travellers can expect 'very heavy' traffic at Singapore-Malaysia land checkpoints during the upcoming June school holidays and Hari Raya Haji long weekend, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Friday (May 23).
The June school holidays runs from May 31 to Jun 29, while the Hari Raya Haji weekend is from Jun 6 to Jun 9.Travellers should expect longer waiting times to clear immigration.
'ICA advises travellers to check the traffic situation at the land checkpoints before embarking on their journey,' said the authority.
Those who need to travel during this peak period can consider taking cross-border bus services to avoid congestion.
'We seek travellers' understanding to cooperate with ICA officers, observe traffic rules and maintain lane discipline,' the authority said, adding that it will not hesitate to take action against those who do not comply with instructions.
During the Vesak Day long weekend from May 8 to May 13, more than 3 million travellers crossed both land checkpoints. At its peak, over 546,000 travellers cleared immigration on May 9.
'Car travellers departing during peak periods had to wait up to three hours for immigration clearance, due to traffic tailback from Malaysia,' said ICA.

SHAH ALAM, June 13 — Toll collection for the Section 2 stretch of the West Coast Expressway (WCE), which connects the SAE Interchange (KESAS) to the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) Interchange and the Banting Interchange, will commence at 12.01 am on Friday, June 13, 2025. 'The toll rates and payment methods for Section 2 of the WCE are fully integrated via the SKVE through the Tanjung Dua Belas Interchange. 'The toll rates imposed take into account the entire journey of the users, including the portions on the SKVE,' the highway operator said, adding that toll charges will vary based on vehicle class and travel distance, ranging from RM1.32 to RM13.85. Highway users are advised to ensure that their e-wallets and Touch 'n Go cards have sufficient balance before starting their journey to avoid any inconvenience at toll plazas, WCE said. Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, in a statement today, announced that the extension was to ensure the smooth movement of supporters to and from the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. 'To facilitate travel, the operating hours of integrated stations will also be extended. Other stations will close as usual, but passengers can still exit at all stations to continue their journey home,' the statement read. KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia have updated their flight booking name entry rules to align with international standards and reduce check-in issues, especially for passengers with non-standard name formats. Both airlines now require passengers to enter their full names exactly as they appear in official documents, such as passports or national ID cards, to prevent discrepancies during check-in, according to a report published in The Star today. For example, a passenger named Ahmad Faliq bin Hamedi should input 'Ahmad Faliq' under the 'First and Middle Name' field and 'Bin Hamedi' in the 'Last Name/Surname' field. Malaysia Airlines has published detailed booking guidelines on its website to assist passengers with the revised procedures. AirAsia has also adopted a clearer distinction between 'Given Name' and 'Family Name/Surname' to accommodate naming conventions across various cultures including Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Vietnamese. The airline emphasised that symbols and special characters are not accepted and name length is restricted by system limits. 'For names with '@', replace it with a space; for names with 'A/P' or 'A/L', omit them unless stated in your passport,' AirAsia advised. Hyphens in names should also be replaced with spaces. Passengers are not allowed to change the name on a booking to another person after confirmation, but corrections for minor errors or misspellings are permitted.
