Fund misuse concerns: $7M infrastructure push in Dhi Qar
Shafaq News/ Authorities in Nasr district, north of Dhi Qar province, announced on Wednesday the rollout of eight infrastructure projects worth 10 billion IQD ($7.6 million), while pushing back against public criticism over a flooded transportation hub.
District administrator Azhar Mousa told Shafaq News that the projects, funded through the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund and provincial development programs, are in various stages of execution. "Once completed, these projects will cover nearly 70% of the district's infrastructure needs, significantly improving conditions by late 2025," he said.
Regarding public anger over the Nasr Unified Garage, which flooded after heavy rainfall, Mousa clarified that the project is still under construction. "Some rushed to criticize it on social media," he noted, adding that the garage is being implemented directly by the General Transport Authority under the Ministry of Transport, at an estimated cost of 500 million dinars (over $380K).
The garage's flooding sparked accusations of mismanagement and waste of public funds, with activists calling for an investigation into the supervising entity.

Iran-Iraq trade hit $206M in two months
Shafaq News/ Iran's exports to Iraq through the Mehran border crossing in western Ilam province reached $206.846 million over the past two months, the province's customs director-general Sohrab Kamari announced on Monday. During this period, a total of 383,436 tonnes of goods crossed through the border. Customs revenue surged to 243 trillion Iranian rials, marking a 236% rise compared with the same period last year. The exports covered a diverse range of products, including agricultural produce, petrochemical derivatives, power plant equipment, construction materials, ceramics, tiles, as well as metal and plastic goods. In addition to the expanding trade volume, more than 1.028 million travelers passed through the Mehran border during the two months. Kamari emphasized that customs clearance for passengers' belongings was handled with ''maximum efficiency'', crediting the efforts of Ilam's customs personnel.

Al-Sudani targets price gouging amid stable USD

GCC calls on Iraq to honor Kuwait's sovereignty, pushes power link forward
Shafaq News/ On Friday, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers urged Iraq to respect Kuwait's sovereignty and pledged to advance plans to link Iraq to the Gulf power grid, strengthening regional energy ties. In a joint statement following the conclusion of the GCC Ministerial Council's 164th session, held in Kuwait, the ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening Gulf-Iraq relations while upholding international norms and existing agreements. The communique praised the 'positive partnership' between the GCC and Baghdad, confirming progress on the cross-border electricity interconnection project. The initiative is part of broader efforts to deepen economic integration and energy coordination across the region. The council also reiterated that the entire Durra gas field lies within Kuwait's maritime territory. It underlined that natural resources in the adjacent submerged area—shared exclusively between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait—are jointly owned by the two nations. Meanwhile, the ministers agreed to proceed with steps toward a GCC union, based on the late Saudi King Abdullah's proposal, assigning the council secretariat to follow up. The ministers also reaffirmed the UAE's sovereignty over the three islands reportedly occupied by Iran, rejecting Tehran's actions as void, and urged resolution through negotiations or the International Court of Justice. Concern over Iran's nuclear program was reiterated, with calls for swift agreements with the US and GCC participation in all related talks. On Gaza, they expressed 'full support' for the Palestinian people, called for lifting the Israeli blockade, and demanded compliance with international law. The council welcomed the US-Yemen ceasefire brokered by Oman and condemned the alleged arms smuggling to the Houthis, urging a political resolution. Ministers further stressed respect for Syria 's sovereignty, praised Saudi and Qatari financial support for the country's recovery, and welcomed €5.8 billion ($6.6 billion) in pledges at the Brussels donor addition, support was voiced for 'Lebanon's reform efforts.'
