The English pair were red-hot favourites to claim the title on their maiden appearance together but they surprisingly lost to Germany in the quarter-finals.
That result came the day after it was announced the two Lukes – the top two in the world – were going to receive recognition in the King's Birthday Honours List.
Straight-talking Yorkshireman Priestley said in a chat with a bookmaker that neither player had 'done enough to earn their MBEs just yet'.
He added: "When I was playing in pairs with Phil Taylor we practised together and sat together, we played all over the world and I only remember us getting beaten once.

'In time they could've done enough to warrant it but it feels very early.
'Littler has been recognised for raising the popularity of darts which is great but he can still do so much more.
'If he is getting an MBE this soon then you'd have to think he is on the right path to a knighthood, nothing would surprise me now."
This jibe angered 18-year-old Littler – the reigning PDC world champion – who posted a short but pointed response on Instagram.

He has since deleted the post.
Littler is the most recognisable figure in the sport and his Instagram account mushroomed to 1.9 million followers shortly after he burst on to the scene in December 2023.
His next appearance on the oche will be at the bet365 US Darts Masters, which will be held on June 27-28 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Littler, meanwhile, has teamed up with fast food giant McDonald's to launch a brand new burger.
The 'Big Arch' is one of five new additions to the McDonald's summer menu launched on Wednesday.
Priestley has also offered some advice to Littler which relates to the deals he has been handed away from the oche.
He said: 'Luke Littler's team needs to shield him from all distractions and make sure he gets all the best advice because he is still so young.
"I hope he reads this because my advice would be it's not about how much money you earn now, it's about how much you've kept when your career comes to an end.
"He has his head screwed on but the important thing is that the darts remains the priority rather than all the sponsorship deals he keeps being offered."

But they are not the first English club to be linked with the Japan international, who will be keen to get first-team football with next year's World Cup on the horizon. The report from Sponichi Annex claims several European clubs are interested in his services, but that Birmingham are leading the chase for his signature as they look to return to the Premier League. It is also claimed that Kyogo himself is said to be positive about the transfer. Having been frozen out at Rennes, playing just six games since signing for the French club in January, Kyogo was linked with a move to Bournemouth last month by French outlet Le Parisien. And he has also been linked with a return to Celtic but that move looks unlikely to happen. The striker still has two years left on his deal at the Ligue 1 side with manager Habib Beye insisting the former Celtic hero is still part of his plans. He said: "Even if he doesn't get the minutes he would like, he is an integral part of my squad. "Kyogo's lack of playing time doesn't mean he doesn't meet my expectations, otherwise he wouldn't be in the squad and he wouldn't come on as a sub. "He's a quality player and he will bring something to the team, I'm convinced of that." Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would love to sign him but a proposed £60million price tag could be prohibitive for a player who has two years left on his contract. Spurs offered £70m for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi in January and the England man would likely be a target again. One who may benefit either way is Radu Dragusin, who met Frank this week along with the club's other injured players. The Romanian, 23, damaged knee ligaments in February and never seemed to fit into Ange Postecoglou's style. But Frank has a history of getting the best out of no-nonsense centre-backs. Sergio Reguilon is out on a free transfer, leaving Spurs with only three recognised full-backs — if you do not count the versatile Ben Davies. So another is likely to be required. MIDFIELD FRANK spoke of trying to get the best out of James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur, so both seem to be part of his plans. Spurs hope to tie down the Uruguayan to a new contract with only a year left. But if that does not happen an exit would not be ruled out amid interest from Atletico. Yves Bissouma also has only 12 months remaining and a few weeks ago fans would have expected the Malian, 28, to be sold given how far down the pecking order he fell under Postecoglou. But he played a pivotal role in the Europa League win over Manchester United and, with Frank often favouring two holding midfielders, his future is harder to call. Spurs want the Dane to develop their young talent, including teenagers Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. But another holding midfielder, perhaps with more experience, could be on Frank's shopping list. So said Frank of Spurs' £65m striker, who was always going to be central to his approach. But who backs up the England man and plays wide? Spurs have been open to selling Richarlison, 28, for a while now but, with his injury record and two years left on his deal, they might struggle to get an offer for the Brazilian that they will find acceptable. There is serious interest in Bryan Mbeumo, 25, who scored 20 Prem goals for Frank's Brentford last term — but Manchester United are also keen. Mathys Tel, 20, has signed permanently after his spell on loan from Bayern Munich but another speedy wideman may be targeted given how Frank likes his teams to break at pace. Then there is captain Son Heung-min, who is open to leaving after marking ten years at the club by lifting a trophy. Son turns 33 next month, is wanted by Saudi clubs, as well as former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce and also has only a year left on his contract. But his unique commercial value means Spurs will not let him go on the cheap — and almost certainly not until after the club's tour to South Korea at the start of August.
