Son of Sardar 2 Review: Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur Shine But The Film Is Not A Laugh Riot

News1801-08-2025
Ajay Devgn and the gang try to make you laugh through the film, but fails due to mediocre comedy.
Ajay Devgn is back as Jassi Randhawa after 13-long years, and we can't keep calm! The Sardar is back in action and this time it gets bigger. Director Vijay Kumar Arora takes you to scenic locations across Punjab, Edinburgh and other parts of England through the film. However, as picturesque as the locations are, the film fails to captivate the audience with the most important thing it is supposed to have — Comedy! Unlike its prequel, the film rides high on mediocrity, but thanks to the cast, you still can have a laugh riot through certain sequences in the film.
What Works For The Film:
Ajay Devgn as Jassi:
Jassi Randhawa has his own charm and swag that is brought back after 13 long years and is portrayed to the point by Devgn. His comic timing, the subtlety he brings to the character is something that goes unmatched. However, Devgn also manages to pull down the song sequences in the film. He lacks energy, which makes one wonder if he was forced to be a part of the song.
Mrunal Thakur as Rabia:
The film also delves highlights the tension between India and Pakistan with a twist. The script manages to address the political tension between the two countries in a funny manner, but Thakur aces the portrayal of a Pakistani girl, who is settled in the UK and is going through the daily challenges of life with her family. As much as we love watching Thakur take the scenes in beautiful costumes that complement the scene, her lines in the film lack the punch that could have made it an even better movie.
Deepak Dobriyal as Gul:
Portraying the role of a beautiful woman is Dobriyal who is a breath of fresh air! He's unrecognisable as a woman in the film and aces his part thoroughly. Dobriyal brings to the table perfect comic timing and the right emotions to the scenes wherever it is required. He is sure to catch your attention through the film, and thanks to the makers, he has a good screen time through the 2-hour 25-minute film.
The Supporting Cast:
The movie also stars Ravi Kishan, Ashwini Kalsekar, Chunky Panday, Kubra Sait, Roshni Walia, Vindu Dara Singh and Sanjay Mishra in supporting roles. However, it is quite an emotional journey to watch Mukul Dev in action posthumously. The actor, who passed away recently, surely leaves his mark through the film as Tony. It is safe to say, he clearly makes Tony more than just a sidekick in the movie.
Besides, it is fun to watch Ravi Kishan bring in the Punjabi energy. He is a true patriot in the film, and his love for the country and family makes his character interesting. However, the only disappointment are the mediocre jokes that run through the film.
What doesn't work for the film:
Lack of Good Humour:
The movie is supposed to be a romantic comedy, but lacks that one main ingredient. To put in context; imagine being served good Butter Chicken without butter! Would it be the same? Well; that's exactly what has happened with the film. Touted to be a family entertainer, the movie lacks a good sense of humour. Having said that, certain sequences in the film would crack you up through the whole scene. The makers need to call for an 'SOS" when it comes to its writers.
The Final Verdict:
With all said and done, Son of Sardar 2 is a decent watch that you can think of watching at the theatres near you with your family. Though the film tries to give a message at the end, go with a mindset to watch some pure slapstick comedy that doesn't require you to apply your mind and logic. Lastly, be ready to be surprised for a small announcement in the end, and no, it's not Son of Sardar 3.

Karan Aujla, Honey Singh fail to appear before Punjab women's commission

Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and YoYo Honey Singh, who were summoned for objectionable lyrics in their latest songs, failed to appear before the Punjab State Women's Commission on Monday. Both of them are currently abroad. Punjabi singers YoYo Honey Singh (left) and Karan Aujla were summoned by the Punjab State Women's Commission for vulgar lyrics in their latest songs, but they failed to appear before it on Monday. (HT file) The women's panel had taken suo motu notice of the offensive lyrics in Karan Aujla's 'MF Gabru' and Honey Singh's latest track 'Millionaire' on Thursday, summoning them to appear at the commission's office in Chandigarh at 11am on August 11. State women's commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill said that she had spoken to both the singers and they 'felt sorry' about their inability to appear before the panel. 'They informed me that they are currently outside the country for their pre-scheduled projects. Both singers assured that they will appear before the commission when they come to India after completing their shoots. In the meantime, their lawyers will submit their replies. I will get the police report in two to three days,' she said. While summoning the duo, the women's panel chief had asked Punjab Police to investigate the matter. In two letters to Punjab director general of police Gaurav Yadav, she wrote that a senior police officer should immediately conduct an investigation and take necessary action according to the law. The investigating officer should be instructed to ensure that the status report regarding the action taken and the singers concerned are present at the commission's office on August 11, the letter said. 'The commission takes such matters very seriously and is committed to protecting women's rights and dignity,' Gill wrote in the letters. She also told reporters that those who use such language cannot be tolerated. Both songs are being shared widely on social media.

Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor's controversial Abir Gulaal set for global release on August 29… but India won't see it

The controversial Indo-Pak film Abir Gulaal, starring Bollywood's Vaani Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, is finally set for its global theatrical release on August 29 but with one major exception: India won't be on the map. Abir Gulaal, initially set for May, faced backlash after recent tensions, prompting calls for a boycott from various sectors. Abir Gulaal to skip India release According to a report by BizAsia, the film's producers have decided to skip a theatrical release in India due to the ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two countries, exacerbated earlier this year by the Pahalgam terror attack and India's retaliatory Operation Sindoor. The geopolitical fallout led to a ban on Pakistani artists in India, causing Abir Gulaal to miss its original May 9 release date in the country. The film had generated significant interest with the teaser and songs receiving a warm response from Indian audiences. Fawad's fans were particularly excited about his long-awaited return to Indian cinema after a nine-year hiatus. However, sentiments turned sharply after the Pahalgam attack, with calls for a boycott of the film growing louder from all walks of society. Vaani, who faced heavy backlash for her association with the project, recently addressed the criticism. Speaking at a media event, she said, "There's so much toxicity and hate... I keep hearing 'boycott this one, cancel that one.' Mat karo yaar (don't do this), have room and let people be." Actor Ridhi Dogra, who also features in the film, defended her decision to be part of the project, stating, 'When I signed and shot for the film, relations between the countries were stable. I followed all the laws. Today, I stand by my country and our armed forces, but don't bully me for something that was legal then.' About Abir Gulaal Directed by Aarti S Bagadi, the film synopsis reads, "Two wounded souls, brought together by chance, find solace in each other's company and gradually develop a profound connection that blossoms into love." Apart from Fawad and Vaani, the film also stars Lisa Haydon, Farida Jalaal, Soni Razdan, Parmeet Sethi and Rahul Vohra in key roles. The film has been produced by Rakesh Sippy, Firuzi Khan and Vivek Aggarwal.

Jasmin Bhasin On Disturbing Audition Experience: 'The Director Locked Me In Hotel Room'

Jasmin Bhasin, known for Dil Se Dil Tak and Naagin 4, shared a scary audition experience in Mumbai, vowing never to attend meetings in hotel rooms. For many aspiring actors, the early days in the industry are filled with auditions, hopes, and the dream of a big break. But for Jasmin Bhasin, one such audition turned into a deeply unsettling experience that left a lasting mark. The television and film actor, known for her work in Dil Se Dil Tak and Naagin 4, recently opened up about a frightening encounter during her initial years in Mumbai. It made her vow never to attend a meeting in a hotel room again. The audition that went wrong Bhasin explained that the incident occurred soon after she moved to Mumbai to pursue acting. 'I had come to Bombay for auditions, and in a hotel in Juhu, there was this meeting. A lot of girls and actresses were there waiting in the lobby, and there were many coordinators. Everybody was going in for the meeting. When it was my turn, I got scared seeing a man having a drink and telling me to audition. Even the coordinator left the room. So first, I got scared," she recalled during her appearance on The Himanshu Mehta Show. The situation escalated when the man insisted she perform the scene immediately. 'After that, he told me, 'You have to do this scene.' So I told him, 'Sir, okay, I will prepare the scene and come back tomorrow.' He said, 'No, no, you have to do it now.' He basically told me a scene, for example, 'Your lover is going, you have to stop him.' So I did that. He said, 'No, not like this. You have to…' then he locked me in and was trying to do something else. But I used my skills and ran off from there. That day, I decided no meetings would ever happen in a hotel room — never in my life," she said.
